The only feature preventing me from buying iMovie is missing video stabilization (found on iMovie for Mac).

The fact that Garageband and iMovie wont work on my iPad stings a great deal. It might be hardware intensive to do multi-video track editing on the iPad's limited ram... but still... its not that old and already can't do the key feature of the platform.

The Garageband page makes no mention of only working on iPad 2, so I would presume it is across the board.

Compare the top-right of the iMovie page:

http://www.apple.com/ipad/from-the-app-store/imovie.html

With the top right of the Garageband page:

http://www.apple.com/ipad/from-the-app-store/garageband.html

Thank God if true - I'm interested in Garageband far more than iMovie, but I do think it's ridiculous the iPod Touch will be able to run the latter and not the iPad 1 - you should be able to import video to edit via iTunes File sharing

Yep, it is obsolete now. Better throw mine in the trash. Kidding aside, I will be a little disappointed if there is no GarageBand for the original iPad. I don't see anything on the website to indicate it is for the iPad 2 only.

I was interested in iMovie. Editing on the iPhone is a bit of a fiddle. Would be great to transfer it to the iPad to edit and show.

Just seems a bit daft to spout out about how many millions of iPads that have been sold, then follow it up showing you software that wont run on them.

Not enough storage!

With only 64GB of storage even the new iPad is all but useless for serious video & Audio anyway.
The iPad is a toy really. And these 'amazing apps' are just more 'games' to play on it. Anyone really wanting to edit a movie or create a song will do so on a compter. The only serious use for Garageband on an iPad would be as a playback device in a live situation, but as a tool to create music or movies from scratch...naaaah!

I think garage band is nifty and I wonder if it is compatible with the first gen of iPad.

Well just saw that iMovie and GarageBand will not work with they original.. What a shock.. ha

How do you know that garageband won't work with original ipad?

I am hoping that is true too. It does make sense that the iPod touch can run iMovie since it came out after the iPad. I was never very impressed with iMovie for the iPhone myself.

It IS hardware intensive. As is multitrack audio (which looks like it will run on the original, just keep your expectations low for performance). And I'm not sure what you mean by "the key feature", the ipad can do tons of stuff.

Newer and more powerful hardware allows more functionality. That's true of any device, I'm not sure why you think iPad would be an exception.

So, is there an adapter for a stereo input for Garageband?

There's a new one from Apogee listed on the apple store today. Looks pretty cool.

I would think the 512 MB of RAM (my estimate) would be a bigger problem for audio and video then the 64 GB of flash.

GB Hope

I for one would be annoyed if Gagargeband didn't work on ipad 1. I could careless about iMovie from my iPhone experience. Plus my memory on my current iPad, 64Gb, is pretty much out, so wouldn't be able to create many projects, much prefer a computer for editing.
IMO GarageBand should have been out for iPad 1 day one if it was possible.
Everything but the new cameras sound pretty good, still not upgrading for awhile. Sadly I don't use FaceTime, plus from day one I tried to imagine the iPad with a camera and just seems odd to me.
I'm also on unlimited data and like many wonder what will happen in the future when I upgrade, say iPad 3?

Well I think they have just shot themselves in the foot. iPads less than a year old become obsolete. Not a very good advert is it.

I don't think so, it seems that GarageBand will be available for the original iPad unless they just forgot to mention that on the page.

They only put iMovie on devices with cameras, so iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4th gen, iPad 2. It might be a RAM issue, but the iPT 4G only has 256MB like the iPad.

The iPad version is probably a bit more RAM intensive though, as it has to display more clips at the same time.

Not everyone is a hollywood video editor. There are thousands of journalists around the world where this is the missing link for their for field editing.

I just ordered the Apogee unit on the apple store. it's great that it works with the mac too. I wonder if it will work with existing apps such as amplitube or ampkit.

I've been waiting for garageband and the new ipad.. fun fun fun!! that and the Apogee guitar input is killer! Very excited.. :)
(looking out the window for fedx with my new 17inch MBP) What agreat birthday :D Thanks Apple!! and Mr Jobs of course. :apple:

Any reason why there isn't sharing to MOBILEME of videos?

So...is Apple going to restore the ability to connect a USB mic to the iPad via the camera adapter without having to use a powered hub? I've been waiting anxiously for GarageBand for iPad but it's worthless to me if I can't connect a proper mic to it. :(

LOL, you don't have a clue.

I'm already composed several songs on the iPad, including a few that I've made money on.

Anyone serious about music needs to take a long, hard look at the iPad. Synthesizers and other audio apps are THE killer app in my book.

It would be great to see a Final Cut app on the IPad.

You are seeing it. It's called iMovie.

Edit:

But it still doesn't make any sense. If the ipod and iPhone 4 can edit using iMovie, then there should be no reason to prevent original iPad owners from using it. If they allow me to shoot from my iPhone and, using home sharing, copy the file over to be edited and export out? I don't believe you are going to lose sales of the new iPad. I'm not upgrading yet, so at least they could make another 5$ off of me.

well...it's only 8 tracks. That is well within the limits of a 1ghz processor. There are already plenty of apps that exceed 8 tracks in the app store right now. It should be fine. If Apple really wanted to sale it, they would make the iPad 2 have 16-20 tracks and leave the iPad 1 at 8. Music people like me eat up that "track count" music logic.

I can make a decent song with 8 tracks, the song will be fantastic with 16!
