Hello.....
Apple II
Apple IIe
Apple IIc
Apple only got where they are by betraying their fans.
When the Mac was released there was no backwards compatibility and support for their existing lines basically came to a screeching halt.

You do realise every ][series run the same speed processor and the whole system was designed with the timing of that processor in mind. So much so that the ][gs in many ways had a whole new system and a little toggle to throttle back the processor to the same speed as the older ][ series so programs would work (not just games either).

The ][ were great machines of their age but lets not gloss over it was their own design that stuck them in the past.

Since Apple are supposed to sell this as a Pro product, we can assume that it will have a pro price, probably because of the display and associated hardware needed to run graphics at a good speed. Ideally any new models would cost the same as the models they replace but al least this way Apple can set in place a system where the components for the high end will become the components for the low end every generational refresh.

Also, the believability that Apple is making a professional-aimed iPad is somewhat questionable right now, as it really seems like everything Apple is doing is moving towards Consumer and Prosumer and away from Professionals.
True. At this point, Apple wouldn't put a lot of effort on a device aimed at a small group of users. I do hope they do release an enhanced iPad 2 to REPLACE the current iPad 2, which wasn't really worth upgrading to it.

Based on previous experience I would say someone is mixing up parts/tech/software info for iPhone 5 and assuming it's for a new iPad. This has happened many times before with other products.

Just a hunch.

For once, me and the Apple executives are on the same page :D

The current design is pasé and we need something better - I never liked the design of the 4, too chunky.

If they do come out with an ipad with a better resolution, I'll buy one. I can't stand the screen on the current one.

First of all, there is nothing wrong with the screen on the iPad 2. (and this coming from someone who criticized Apple every day of the week) The continued rumors of another iPad release this year is utter BS and probably pathetic attempts by BlackBerry and Samsung to slow the slaughter of their tablets. I always would love to see bigger and better, including a terrabyte iPod, but this is ridiculous. It would have the battery life of an iPod touch, which is pretty pointless for a "Pro" device. The idiocy is reaching new heights.

Also, they have BARELY started to produce iPad 2's in any sort of quantity that is readily purchasable, and even then many stores are still completely out of stock. You can't sell without stock and Apple still is behind the game. So to imply they are going to do another is the height of absurdity.

Surely if your App is good enough for a professional market then you can already charge enough to cover staffing, promotion and such. Not sure how charging a gatekeeper fee and moving you away from eyeballs. How many people will go the this Pro appstore knowing the pricing will be higher than it needs to be to cover the gatekeeper. Maybe you need to look at a bit of bootstrapping demand outside the appstore use that to drive a kickstart presents in the store.

Dude, you just invalidated your own argument. The problem with the app store is lack of visibility. Retail stores charge big money for placement of items from shelf level to center, near end or the very precious "endcap" position. The same should be done for searches in the app store. Yes, you can geek away on searches and try trials of other apps but brand name and a price that perceives value helps.

Will people go to a premium app store knowing they will pay more but get a better quality product? Happens in retailing all the time. You are cheap, you shop at Wal-Mart or K-Mart. You want better, you shop at Macy's or Bloomingdale's. Heck what you think Apple retail stores are?

A web portal featuring high quality apps on the app store with a higher price and good promotion of the store can work if done right. There have been attempts but in my opinion, the margins, visibility and cash flow model is not balanced yet. We either have Wal-Mart or Tiffany's and no where in-between right now.

The big problem with the app store now is that Apple holds the merchant account. There needs to be a retail pass though merchant account where the premium retailer gets a cut and the Apple app store gets their cut if Apple doesn't do a two-tier store.

iPad HD? Pro Apps? Oh, please.....

iPad 3 in 2012.

Pro Apps? For what? FCPX on iPad? Apple has already shown their contempt for Pros with FCPX. Apple has moved on from "Pro" apps. They do consumer apps. Apps for the masses, not Pros.

Both of these rumors are complete B.S.

EXCELLENT point!

A hd iPad...just what I am after as a pro photographer! but how will they address connectivity issues between camera and iPad whilst on location to make use of aperture? Will there finally be a USB port to get files downloaded, captioned and sent in compact form??

Not surprised at an iOS version of FCP at all, but I do find it odd if Apple plans to supplant the iPad 2 so quickly.

Though it does make you wonder how much longer OS X has to live.

We were just chatting about this yesterday afternoon. I don't think that Mac OS will disappear, but I can see as the years go on that the difference will blur. You can see it happening now with the 2 systems

Does the iPad camera kit not provide the USB connectivity you need? (I personally only use the SD card reader in conjunction with my Canon)

When a good design can be kept

I think most people I've met and the peeps in here who are of sound mind will accept that once you have a good, functioning, comfortable, practical design which works at all levels then it is acceptable to keep such a design i.e. the iMac. Slim it down yes, tinker with it yes, change it's colour yes.

So if Apple has found this out with the iMac, then why couldn't it have realised it with the iPhone? iPhone 3/3Gs was the most attractive, comfortable, pleasing on the eye, along with most of all robust designed everyday item that I personally had ever come across... sigh!

But if you trying to target a particular professional market they are no more likely to look for their professional tools in Macy's as they are K-mart. Sure they may buy the jeans and black shirts in Macy's but they aren't buying a set square there. Google searches aren't going to help you either. You've biggest problem is getting them to think there might be an app to even go searching for google or in the app store.

If your going to drop a grand then sponsoring some of the blogs where your target professional hang out has got to be a better return than any of the above. Nothing is going to beat word of mouth but to get that you need to get to the right people right.

Hmm... I think Apple will launch the new iPad next March.
I'm not sure about next March, but probably early next year. I think it's unlikely that they'd be rushing another model out so quickly - regardless of whether it should be considered a 2S/HD or 3. Apple will be (quite rightly) accused of double dipping, and many iPad 2 owners might feel a bit cheated.
Apple haven't done such quick updates/additions with any other product, have they? Why would they start now when the iPad 2 is already selling so well?

How much will it cost

Given the fact that they only released the iPad2 this year, it seems hard to believe that they are already going to be releasing a newer more advanced iPad.

I like my iPad2 and I remember how lucky it was that I was able to obtain my model on the day when my local Apple store had one for sale.

I would tend to think the new model is going to be at least $900 given the components that will be required and might make it too expensive for most since at that price someone might consider purchasing a laptop instead.

not that i believe (or care) whether a new ipad comes out this fall, but if i were to name such a pixel-doubled member of the ipad2 family, it would undoubtably be the ipad 2x. :p

How about an iPad pro that runs OSX? This, I would buy.

I do think it's a smart move to introduce a iPad HD at higher price. I would not mind paying extra $100 for an improved iPad 2 (whatever it's called) with double-resolution screen and better cameras (front and back). I'm not a photographer or do graphics so I do not need those graphics software, however I'd appreciate the improved screen and cameras. I'm 99% satisfied with my iPad 2 except for the low-resolution screen and inferior cameras.

Those of you who use iPhone 4's would know what I'm talking about. iPhone 4's Retina display looks so much better than iPad 2's. I'm not saying iPad 2's screen is in bad quality, but I can see the pixels. My eyes got spoiled by the iPhone 4's Retina display.

But what if Apple wants $200 or $300 extra for the iPad HD? I'm not sure. It's the price point that would matter to me. I can justify spending $600 on it (only need 16GB Wi-Fi), but $700 or $800? Not sure.
