So what's going to be different? Rumors say the iPhone 17 will have an A18 chip and the 16e already has the A18 as well as the Action Button. Dynamic Island maybe? Camera Control?
I think it’ll be like the iPhone 15 with the action button. I wonder also if they’ll bring out a plus version too.

I’m surprised that Apple is launching another e varient so soon.

The Apple of a few years ago wouldn’t do this - I mean it was still selling the chassis of 2014 until earlier this year.

But when you look at android land, there is an embarrassment of riches in the android mid range. So much so that buying a high end android phone is extravagant.

So given that the e range is for - presumably - some customers who are price sensitive, Apple has to compete.

With out the U1 or eventual U2 chip and magsafe it is a no go for me.

Add those and give it a price break I would consider it otherwise i will hold on to my 12
MagSafe on the 17e!?

This is an advanced new technology called ‘magnets’ that uses ‘magnetic force’ and is way way too expensive for a cheaper iPhone.

The most stable images come from Sensor Shift OIS, right?

They are mostly equivalent. Sensor shift can offer more stabilization for certain shakes but it doesn't work as well in zoomed situations. The biggest advantage of sensor shift is the ability to use lenses with no image stabilization, which is not applicable for phones.

See articles below for more reference:

This is a good way of viewing the differences with blue handled by OIS and yellow handled by IBIS; when combined stabilization is great and is referred to as six-axis stabilization.

I think there is no doubt that there will be a yearly update to the 'e' model especially considering that there are rumors that the base model iPhone launch is shifting to April. As for the 17e, expecting it to be mostly the same as the 16e other than a chip upgrade.

Just bought a 16e and glad I didn't wait after reading this report. Basically just missing a processor upgrade I'd hardly notice. The 16e is an excellent phone without unnecessary features for most users. And who knows about 17e pricing with inflation and tariffs looming.
