What do you mean by this? How does it not have this now?
My guess is that you don't use a laptop for anything requiring a real computer.

When I have to use my Mac laptop away from my desk, I get all of the energy efficient cores running at 100% and all of the performance cores running at near zero. This is because current Apple laptops cannot run all performance cores at 100% for very long because they cannot handle the heat. A portable workstation would not have this problem. And therefore I would not have to wait 2, 3 or 4 times as long for tasks to complete before I can move on to the next thing.

And yes, I have lots of RAM and have tuned the performance settings for power use.

The Mac world needs a portable workstation, not lighter, thinner design. If you want that get an Air.

Otherwise bigger battery and bigger screen are needed.
They cite OLED as a possibility that the top lid could get thinner. Look at the dang thing, the most they could shave off would be a quarter of a millimeter, and there's also the extra hardware for touch (if that really happens).

So far “Ultra” means bigger, so IMO a portable workstation is probably closer to what this will actually be.

(takes me back to the 17" Macbook Pro “cafeteria tray” I used to lug around in 2009)

Someone gave me an older Microsoft Surface, 8GB RAM, and an older Intel i7 inside. It performs reasonably well. But it runs Windows. I am now installing Linux Elementary on it. https://elementary.io/ It will look and act like a Mac. The keyboard on a Surface is removable, with a powerful magnet holding it in place, but you can rip it loose.

I suspect I will like it with no keyboard or with a Mac Bluetooth keyboard and use it like I would if an iPad ran macOS.

Maybe I can come back and give an opinion of a Mac-like OS on a touch computer.

Thinner Design

This is an even worse idea than adding a touch screen. The MacBook Pro doesn't need to be thinner. How about using the freed-up space for a bigger battery instead?

The addition of a cellular chip is the biggest leap here as it will practically need some major changes to the OS layer to prevent runaway bandwidth use when using it since computers have never even attempted to mitigate or throttle data use since they were invented.

That would be an instant buy. Cellular on a Mac makes perfect sense but only since we reached 5G speeds, I guess optimized with the in house modem. I can see cellular coming to the next Neo, since it’s the perfect light mobile office machine (like for doctors).

All the cellular companies are salivating at the potential additional revenue from getting more cellular subscriptions…Apple Watch all over again.

Not thiner, but get rid of the horrible sharp stupid vents on the left and ride sides below the keyboard.

I wonder if this is a stepping stone to making something like the Huawei matebook fold. I would buy that in a heartbeat if it ran macOS! I see this touchscreen MacBook as Apple testing the waters.

I think they are just transitioning to Neo and Ultra names, to ditch the Air and Pro monickers later.
They'll probably just leave the A chips for the cheap Neo ones, and use the M chips for the Ultra expensive ones (pun intended.) 😆
If they are it will make a huge gap between Neo and Ultra devices. Neo is too weak for me and on the other hand Ultra will be a price overkill. I need a MacBook Pro like it is now.

Another thing that is useless IMO. Tethering from a phone is the same thing.
