Finally. I don't want password software subscriptions.
It won't change much except you'll be able to access your passwords quicker than going in Settings, which is indeed a bit of a hassle today.

I've used iCloud Keychain since the last 7 years now. You can do this now if you want to.
It never worked perfectly, but it's better than before, and for security measures I strongly encourage everyone to move to that because it produces passwords that need billion of years to be decrypted by modern computers.

Well it's about time. I then can finally get rid of my subscription to 1Password and stop using a few other ways of saving my passwords. I just wish more sites would use Passkeys rather that Passwords. hint, hint MacRumours

That’s the problem with creating apps for iPhone.  can create something very similar for free that will come with iOS — and you’re suddenly out of business
That’s not the main problem. The main problem is that Apple can integrate functionality into the system in ways that app developers can’t, and hence app developers cannot compete fairly.

I’ve found Apple’s solutions somewhat confusing. I‘m often asked whether I want to turn on Keychain to access a particular password across devices, yet this password is already accessible across my devices (maybe through Safari?).

Makes no sense to me - maybe I’m a Luddite.

But are new passwords available across devices? Sounds like iCloud Keychain got disabled at some point and all your previously synced passwords remained on all your devices but new ones won't sync.

Can we also move Hide My Email and make it less „hidden“ and buried. I bet you 70 % of people don’t even know this feature exists

YES! I set up a Shortcut to open the Apple ID panel but it still takes too many clicks (and Hide My Email takes way too long to load).

I hope there's a way to sync logins/passwords between iPhone and Chrome. I use Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Windows PC.

I've said it before with iOS, but Apple should just make or buy a password manager at this point. I can already hear the antitrust screeching, but Google and Samsung offer native password management. macOS has Keychain Access, which covers the basics already. This password manager app could offer HME generation easily. It could also notify users of sites adopting Sign in with Apple, to expand the user base further for that sweet walled garden lock-in.
I'm probably gonna stick with Minimalist anyway, but I've been harping on this for years (only recently on here). With most password managers being subscription, Apple would probably prefer you keep paying for their cut.

I feel bad for 1password! It will be a massive blow
Maybe, maybe not. 1Password has been really uping its game around the Enterprise, something I really doubt Apple will focus on, at least initially. 1Password has features such as Okta integration, cli and ssh support, and team management. I doubt Apple will ever have those features.

Gotta love it when third-party subscription software gets Sherlocked. I have since moved on from 1Password to iCloud passwords but a dedicated app will be welcome.

I’ve been using 1Password for at least 13 years, and have been mostly a very happy customer. However, the last couple years the Safari extension on Mac has become unusable. I keep waiting for them to fix it, but nothing happens.

Unlocking the extension is a horrific experience, every time. It times out, presents a password prompt when 1Password itself is already unlocked, and almost always requires going into Safari preferences to turn it off and back on again. Then multiple reloads of the webpage and a little luck finally gets it to come up and autofill. Sometimes it’ll be unlocked in one Safari profile but refuse to unlock in another. It’s madness.

I used to recommend 1Password to non-technical friends & family, but no more. They would never get past this insanity. It used to Just Work, but now, on multiple Macs with the latest versions, it does all of the above.

I’ve avoided Apple’s keychain for all of this stuff since migrating to 1Password, but if this new app covers all of my needs and is integrated well into Safari, I’ll have to take another look. It also needs robust family sharing, not Apple’s usual half-assed implementation of family sharing. And integration with third party browsers would be preferable - while Safari is still my primary browser, I’m encountering a growing list of sites that don’t work properly in it.

I prefer iPhone over Android for my users for this (and many other) reason, the little bit of password management built-in is already better than the mess on Android. Google changes its mind every six months as usual where it wants you to keep passwords, not to mention two factor codes, and it's a baffling ordeal.

I've met so many users who don't know and don't want to know the logins to anything, but they do manage to keep up with the same iCloud account they've had since their first iPhone.

I've been using iCloud Keychain for years, and it's so good (and so convenient) that I genuinely never saw the appeal of third-party password managers. :apple:
It has certainly improved over the years, but its severe limitations drove me to alternatives years ago. I'm glad it works for you, it's free!

Needs to be able to store all sorts of info like 1Password, and share it like 1Password, and also have support for all browsers/platforms like 1Password.

If it can actually do as much as 1Password, while working as well as 1Password, I might switch.

I bet you can quiz 10 of your friends and family members and 9 of them won't know where the passwords are currently stores on their iPhones.

This would be a welcome change.
Yeah and the same 9 probably don’t actually care because the phone is doing what it needs to do. Storing them and autofilling them when needed .

Agreed, you nailed it. Likewise I've been using 1Password for a long time now and it has indeed become unusable in Safari over the past year or so. It's a sick joke. Click, click again, no go, click, refresh page, click...there we go.
Can't wait for Apple to launch a replacement, as long as it is cross-platform.
