Apple didn’t want to support VP9 for a host of reasons that ultimately did not matter when compared to user needs. Nearly all semi-professional and all professional content on YouTube is 4k. It has been enbraced, fully. So Apple is the only one standing in the corner looking silly at this point.What is the backstory
re: the "swallow the pride" part that Apple would need to do related to 4K?
Is it because they've focused on Retina, not 4K?
Or because 4K is not their branding?
Sure in macOS you can use Firefox or Chrome to get 4k YouTube. You don’t have this option on ATV. Also, that’s what Apple has been more comfortable with? Refusing to support VP9 to the point where you push users to another product.
