Well looks like I will be using my iPhone again. They just better have a lot of variety in terms of package choices. Every carrier has all sorts of data / $ options. Atandt is take it or leave it. I left it lol. :p

Story sounds suspect

Isn't it convenient that this "report" from OTR Global broke on the same day that Verizon and Motorola launched the Droid?

A quick Google search will reveal that OTR Global is a "SEC registered institutional broker-dealer," which means the firm gets paid by institutions like mutual funds and hedge funds to put out research.

I'm not saying the report isn't true, I'm just saying you have to wonder if some hedge fund put them up to writing it in order to weigh on the sentiment around MOT shares, which have been strong lately given buzz around the Droid. You also have to wonder since OTR Global isn't exactly a household name in the world of broker-dealers, like a JP Morgan or Merrill Lynch or some other more broadly known organization. It's not like I've ever seen anyone from OTR Global on CNBC talking about a stock.

i personally don't care how many carriers acquire the iPhone. Verizon's network is a joke however, they all have their problems. To have my plan on Verizon would cost over $50.00 more per month plus all of the taxes. Verizon's prices are way too high. AT&T's current network is going to 7.9Mb and Verizon's is maxed out at 3.x, therefore, no comparison. 4G will take from 4 to 7 years for a full rollout (per the industry articles on the web) so that is not a consideration. I love the AT&T rollover which Verizon does not have. Unlimited minute plans are too expensive. In the end, it's what YOU want and like and what you are willing to pay for. My son loves his new Motorola Cliq from T-Mobile. They sent it to him before they were supposed to ship nationwide so he has had it for 2 weeks. He has not had any problems with T-Mobile in the mid-atlantic area. He travels a lot around VA, MD and NJ. Personally, I would not have T-Mobile.

Personally, I do not find any of those features appealing. Some people might find a use for them, but they are not selling points for me. Flash on a phone camera? Yikes. FM? FM? I haven't listened to FM radio in at least 5 years.

I concur totally. Phone cameras are crap compared to regular cameras. I've had phones with camera and flash (8525 made by HTC). There were not that good and the HTC had the worst OS ever made, Windows mobile (constantly crashed or locked up). I usually carry a point-and-shoot camera for those situations where I might want to take a photograph. FM is mostly out for me unless I'm driving and don't want to hook up my iPod or play a CD. Besides, I use Pandora, AOL or Slacker and listen to who I want rather than generic FM.

Not to mention, the Droid does not pinch & zoom, nor does it perform data+voice simultaneously - talk about

a major handicap in the realm of multitasking. FM stations are available on the iPhone through several free apps,

all of which provide better reception via WiFi & 3G. The thinner profile and sleeker UI of the iPhone make a considerable

difference, IMO.

I thought no device could do voice and data at the same time while on EDGE? I know for a fact my G1 can do data and voice simultaneously when I'm in a 3G area.

Bring on the Verizon iPhone!

Q3 2010 - just in time for when I am due for a new phone upgrade. :)

Same here, I am due in July, so hopefully it will be out then and VZW will have a decent family plan for data. Since right now I would switch to sprint if not for the iphone potential as with sprint employee reccomendation, and my employee discount from my work I could get Sprint unlimited everything and twice as many minutes as I currently have on verizon for same price as I currently pay on verizon for half the minutes and unlimited text

You can pay for family data on vzw but it is only on dumbphones not any smartphones.

this has got to be bogus!

if not, shrinking the screen? crappy hybrid chip?

I'll be upgrading to a refurbished 3GS then and NOT the new model.

I hope Apple doesn't get this lame.

If they do, they deserve to get whomped on by the Droid's successors.

The shrinking the screen i can only see them doing a simple size change and no pixels otherwise they have a lot of work in front of them and a lot more confusion with app store distribution.

I always thought about games working poorly and such with a smaller screen, it just occurred to me that it would be near impossible to type on the keyboard, it is already getting a bit close to being too small.

Just another data point with which to conclude Verizon IS NOT getting the iPhone anytime soon: http://bit.ly/3wDz8W

All you iPhone on Verizon dreamers give it up. Verizon is at war with the iPhone. Why they are giving ATT this gift I can't say, but clearly they don't think they can make as much money w/ the iPhone as they can w/ Android.

Agreed! I love my iPhone but if the screen size is diminished, etc, I'll keep my 3Gs until it dies and go to another brand. Besides, I only use a few of the 100,000 apps. The "other" new phones have more and more apps becoming available. The "others" are catching up quickly. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I've played with the Cliq and it's really cool (just don't like T-Mobile). I'm not bashing Apple, I love their products but they have to keep up the innovation.

You're not getting it. This is just business. Besides, this ad wasn't an ad attacking the iPhone but rather AT&T. The interesting thing that Verizon is still doing the maps thing even with the AT&T lawsuit.

Don't think that Verizon wants the iPhone?

well it could be said Apple knows it is just advertistments. Come on shall we go back and look at apple behavior in the pass a good example would be when apple went intel.

Up until the day it was announce apple in its advertisements went on and on about how intel x86 was crap compared to PPC. They compared themselves to intel time and time against up until the day it was announced. That very day it was flipped around showing how much better intel was than PPC.

verizon iphone

I have low vision so please apple do not make a smaller screen. who could use a smaller screen? I want to use the iphone as an ereader. Apple has a monopoly on the iphone. years ago we broke up the bells and now it looks like we need to do it again. where is teddy roosevelt:confused:

But... you can pirate iPhone apps too.

Only if you have a device with a broken OS. That's only maybe 10% to 20% of devices in use. The vast majority, more than 80%, of iPhone users would still have to purchase any paid apps.

Someone could try to pirate an app and submit it to the the App store as their own for download by the majority of potential customers, but any too obvious rip-off would be subject to take-down notices.

With WinMob and PalmOS, a pirated app could be downloaded to any device, even with a completely stock OS... 100% of the installed base. Not sure about Android.

Are Blackberries carrier-locked? If so, do people jailbreak or unlock them?

blackberries are carrier locked. Most carriers have a policy after so many days they will give you an unlock code if requested. That or another common on is if you are going over seas they a lot of the time will give you an unlock code.

This is all a part of Verizon's marketing push. They've now begun to get initial feedback on Droid, and the picture is not as rosey as they'd hoped. Concerned over Droid sales, Verizon has increased cancellation fees to $350. Once they get Droid customers, rumors of a Verizon iPhone will keep the dissatisfied mollified until the awful truth comes out (unless Verizon can change Apple's course). The awful truth could be anything, consiering Apple hasn't yet decided anything. Sprint perhaps? Who knows.

You sir are a ****ing moron! Please read all of the reviews from users in the different Droid forums. From what Im seeing there is an upper 90% satisfaction among Droid owners and also quite a few people switching carriers to get it.

You can ignore him, just another BlackBerry fanboy who's too ignorant to understand anything that doesn't coincide with his view of the world.

I'll wait for later next year when the iPhone is on VZ and ignorant people like him eat their words, or come up with some "reason" they were right in some other way.

i really hope they don't shrink the screen, that just seems outright stupid.

But if anything, i think they will up the resolution. The iphone has a VGA screen whereas the motorola droid packs a 480 x 854 WVGA screen.

That would be awesome.

This is a ridiculous rumor. First let me clarify I had a Blackberry on Verizon before I switched to iPhone. Loved my blackberry, love my iPhone.

I do not think that Jobs will ever allow the iPhone on Verizon. Lets go back to when Apple dropped the G5 chip. Jobs got in an argument with IBM and whammy they now use Intel. The IBM RISC design will always be better the PISC Intel/AMD philosophy. Lesson is dont piss off Steve Jobs.

Lets think Verizon does the everything iDoesnt iDo ad campaign claiming that the iPhone was lacking. True the iPhone lacked a few features but come on, verizon loves to lockdown their phones software so that it restricts what you do. Think bluetooth push transfer...

Oh and lets not forget the latest use of their "There's a Map" campaign. I think that Apple might have developed something to work on the Verizon network, but not now.

The IBM RISC design will always be better the PISC Intel/AMD philosophy.

Um, no. As someone who designed PowerPC microprocessors (Exponential x704 - look it up), and who designed x86 processors (AMD K6, Opteron, Athlon 64), I assure you that given the state of compiler technology, the x86 philosophy blows away the powerpc philosophy. Not to mention that IBM/Moto were pretty inept at keeping up.
