I actually want these colour on newer iPhones. Catchy and fresh looking, I'm getting tired of muted colours. Silver, Metal, Midnight, White. Even the green and purple dark muted.
You kinda sorta had them with the XR and 11.

Nobody wanted the 5c because of the bright plastic and the lack of new features compared to iPhone 5.
Trailing the 5s by one SoC generation (A6 vs. A7), having a worse camera, and being physically incompatible with the large supply of existing iPhone 5 cases, while being only 100 dollars less were the undoing of it in the marketplace.
Stares at iPhone 14

I suppose history might not repeat itself, but it does rhyme…

They are beautiful! Why Apple?

I have owned an iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, SE 2016 and out of the four models, I liked the design of 5c the most... Although it is heavier and has a plastic/polycarbonate back, the steel support inside it made it feel durable/tough and feels more solid...

I guess we could say the iPhone 5c was ahead of its time... New model with previous year's chipset... Just like this year's iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus which uses the same chipset used in the iPhone 13 series...

iPhone XR has re-used some of the colors introduced in iPhone 5c and I liked the blue in both iPhone 5c and XR and the white iPhone 5c...

Without a case, these always felt the best in my hand. The metal ones feel slippery and heavier. Making me fearful of dropping.

Never had that anxiety with the 5c. Still feels good in my hand today. Even if it hasn’t been used since 6s.
My 12 mini is only the second iPhone I've regularly used with a case. Mainly because of the fragility of the glass back with that one and my 4, but also with the 12 because it wobbles too much on a flat surface without a case. The plastic of the 5c felt so much more resilient, and was more enjoyable because there was less worry about damaging it.

You can still use data even in the US, and other countries exist, you know… not everywhere had a 3G shutdown
Sure, but it’s happening in more and more countries and it’s progressing quicker as countries want more room for 5G.

Even here in Indonesia, an emerging market, we have already shut down 3G.

It was obselete the day it was released. But my goodness did people buy it, I think it was way more popular than the 5S.

Yeah, missed the colorful Apple. The XR was probably the last fun colored iPhones. Nowadays they’re just a spectrum of bland faded “colors.” Apple really needs to bring back the bold colors like yellow or orange.

It is more popular in real life than what the bloggers said it was. People love colors. But total, the 5S actually sold more. In the end, when people buy iPhones, they want the latest. And the gold 5S was hugely popular in Asia.

Very true. Man was the 5S ever elite. There was even a joke about it in that show 2 Broke Girls. About how they know a guy has cash if they have a 5S. Even now I still wouldn’t mind picking up a hobby one. Best design IMO

The iPhone 5s introduced the 64-bit smartphone, added Touch ID and had the first Gold finish on an iPhone. For months you could only find the gold model for resale for upwards of $800 on eBay.

The 5s was an incredible upgrade.

The iPhone 5 had a black finish that did not wear well at all (no matter what John Gruber says). They simply could not get the anodized black to stay on the aluminum back. Apple should have introduced it as “unapologetically scratchable”. Apple knew this and they could not continue to sell it as last year’s model because it was generating too many complaints. So instead they wrapped it in plastic and called it “iPhone 5c”.

The iPhone 5c was a really cool product. The colors looked almost “candy dipped” in the way they melted down and around the corners of the device. They also had great packaging, a solid plastic “case” with clear plastic on the front allowing you to see the device before opening it - very well executed.

The 5C was my first iPhone, though not my first Apple product. I absolutely loved the phone, and still have it to this day. I like to look back on what things were like.

I'm surprised it wasn't considered obsolete already. Lord knows the poor little yellow phone struggles to even play locally stored music.

I always loved the official cases for these. The polka-dot effect was *chef's kiss.*

That said I opted for the 5S that year. Touch ID was it for me and the A7 was gravy for the turkey (A7 was a remarkable leap from A6 and it felt like it).
Same! My graphite 13 Pro gives me the same vibe as my trusty old space grey 5s back in the day. I loved that phone. Really enjoy my 13 Pro now. Best iPhone I’ve had.

I remember everyone either getting a 5s or a discounted 4S. Nobody wanted the 5c because of the bright plastic and the lack of new features compared to iPhone 5.

And honestly, next to glass and metallic/aluminium of the flagships, the 5c almost looked like a smartphone from another brand.

One of the few (the only?) iPhone that ever really failed.

That was the myth that perpetuated but the sales figures after 1 year showed the top three selling smartphones were iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 4s in that order.

iPhone 5c sold like 24 million units according to estimates. Samsung’s Galaxy S5 and S4 did okay, but most of Samsung’s unit sales was spread out among much cheaper models. If you add up Samsung’s models from that year they beat the iPhone 5c but only in units sold — most of those accounted for very little profit and sold in very price conscious markets where Apple did not compete. In markets where Apple sold a price-competitive phone they trounced everybody with their 3 iPhone models.

iPhone 11 still outperforms every Android phone with its A13 chip

Yeah, it was a dumb post. We bought IPhones with the A13 chip in them because they have already taken their price hit. Heck, here in Asia they went UP a tiny bit in price on the used market after the 14's came out so much more expensive.

I'd like it if Apple brought back plastic phones that had a bit of impact protection to them. I'd still probably case a $1,000 phone for a year or two, but if they were plastic instead of glass and metal, I'd be more likely to eventually rock them caseless. I'm not a clumsy person, but I still drop my phone a couple of times a year, so I need some level of protection. The fact that the phones that Apple makes are gorgeous is wasted on me because they always get left in a plastic case.
