These were AWESOME... except they were outdated when they launched since the 5S was out then... I wanted one soo bad but didn't want old hardware.

Apple knew exactly what they were doing with these things. They finally gave us colors but outdated...
I loved mine but yeah it was outdated. Didn’t care it was exciting to have an iPhone that wasn’t a dull color. I wish they would make colors this bold again.

Terrible phone design-wise as the display always dislocated and pop-out in one corner all the time when the phone dropped. Otherwise, it was actually a good phone.

Apple plans to mark the iPhone 5c as an obsolete product next month, according to a memo obtained by MacRumors.

Apple marked the iPhone 5c as a vintage product in October 2020, which meant the company and its service providers could only provide certain repairs for the product, subject to part availability. On November 1, Apple will mark the iPhone 5c as an obsolete product, ending all repairs and services, according to a memo sent out today to authorized service providers. Apple also said in the memo it would mark the third-generation iPad mini with Wi-Fi and TD-LTE as obsolete on the same day.

The iPhone 5c was an iconic iPhone released alongside the iPhone 5s in September 2013. The iPhone 5c was the first to be offered in a series of bright and vibrant colors, including blue, green, pink, yellow, and white, in an "unapologetically plastic" design. The iPhone 5c also marked the first time Apple had released a lower-end iPhone model aimed at budget-conscious customers, with pricing for the 16GB model starting at $99 with a two-year contract in the United States.

this was my first and most favorite iPhone 😭

These were always lemons because they had 8GB of storage (for the one everybody I know bought as they wanted the cheapest iPhone) and it wasn't enough for anything other than the system. As such, they were laggie and always told people they were 'out of storage', even when they weren't storing anything.

That said, I find Apple's 'vintage' and 'obsolete' language weird. I mean... I still have a Pac-Land arcade machine with a CRT monitor firing up in the man cave. If somebody were broke and found a mint 32GB iPhone 5C in a dumpster, they could stick a SIM in and use it no problems.

Is a product REALLY obsolete when it's compatible with today's websites / phone towers / charging cables / computers? I disagree with their definition. UNSUPPORTED yes... but it's less than 10 years old (i.e. isn't a 1950's "vintage" Chevy or something) and still works with today's tech (so isn't obsolete). Just saying.

This is the first year I’ve not upgraded in forever. Sticking with my 13 mini. I’d love a durable plastic design again.

I love how "unapologetically plastic" has become Jony Ive's most iconic line 😂

Also, damn I miss his product design videos.

Idk. Maybe it’s time to hunt one on used Market? It’s doesn’t worth much if at all nowadays, and can allow me to play some really old games.
Apple pretty much can only succeed in high end market with their own store. Lower end is more or less dominated By used market and whatnot. Yes. When you understand an iPhone XS Max is much cheaper than iPhone SE 3rd gen, you know buying iPhone from apple is not always an option.

If the size doesn't bother you, I'd recommend a fourth gen iPad, as those also are on iOS 10 and have *oodles* more horsepower to throw around, plus they're still Lightning and such for accessories. Those were also the first iPads to go to 128GB (later availability, not at launch).

I remember everyone either getting a 5s or a discounted 4S. Nobody wanted the 5c because of the bright plastic and the lack of new features compared to iPhone 5.

And honestly, next to glass and metallic/aluminium of the flagships, the 5c almost looked like a smartphone from another brand.

One of the few (the only?) iPhone that ever really failed.

Nah, the whole "the 5C failed" narrative was just that. It was usually the #2 selling phone every month.

They only had 8GB later on. Yeah, it wasn't great, but that was people's choice.

I always thought these looked great, and more interesting colours than the metal iPhones.
They are more interesting than the metal iPhones of the day, but they just were not as cool— and that was the difference.

And the only iPhone that features plastic finish. It would be just fine for wireless charging and some.

Uh much cheaper? Where?

Well, the main reason I’m considering iPhone 5c is I want to experience what it once was. Also this might as well be the last iPhone that features plastic of any sort since we never see the return of that material.

The problem is the 5S was a much better phone. It has a better processor, it was lighter, and it looked much more elegant. There was no good reason to pick the 5C.
One would have picked the 5C because it was more affordable. I’d say that’s an excellent reason if budget for spending money on a phone is limited for whatever reason.

Rip Apples third biggest mistake.
2. iPhone 14 having A15 Bionic
1. Butterfly Keyboard

Very true. Man was the 5S ever elite. There was even a joke about it in that show 2 Broke Girls. About how they know a guy has cash if they have a 5S. Even now I still wouldn’t mind picking up a hobby one. Best design IMO

Agreed! I liked the iPhone 5C but I bought the gold iPhone 5S - and that truly looked ELITE. If I had to pick my 2 favorite iPhone designs, it would be the gold 5S and the midnight green 11 Pro Max.

The 5S was even featured in Britney's latest music video at the time, I had to have that phone 🤣

Well, in this context, I believe vintage simply means 5 years from the last year of production, and obsolete means 7 years from last year of production and no more parts and service available. That doesn't mean an actual obsolescence of the product itself.

Having said that, the 5c will be literally obsolete as a phone, and will be just a glorified ipod Touch, very soon. More and more countries have shut down 2G and/or 3G, and the 5c has limited LTE band with no support for VoLTE.
