Perhaps M1 iMac 24-inch? This is the closest you can get today. The combination Mac Studio + Studio Display is way too expensive and powerful for most users. Definitely not an iMac 27-inch replacement.
I wouldn't say that with this generality.

The needs of people who bought base models of the 27" iMac or upgrade few features are covered by the 24-inch model. The needs of people who got the top of the line are covered by the Mac Studio. There is at most a segment somewhere in the middle that could be a little awkward, maybe people who need 32 GB of RAM but not much performance.

Late-2014 isn't supported on Monterey though?
Not officially, but it runs flawlessly if you use Opencore to install it. Chances are they will update that to handle Ventura too. I was about to sell mine as I have an M1 iMac now, but getting Monterey going on my 2014 5K convinced me to hang onto it. It's a magnificent design workhorse.

The Late 2013 27" iMac is one of the best machines Apple made (albeit the hinge). I got a fully upgraded one (except the RAM) for just € 4000,- (including tax). I put 32 GB RAM in it where today's iMacs (9 years later!) only support 16 GB.

The 2013 models don't have retina displays, but I don't care about that. It's still capable of running most modern games (that support the Nvidia chipset) and it runs most other software without issue.

And o yeah, the design is so much better than today's 24" iMacs.

It’s not supported. But it’s very easy to do using OpenCore Legacy Patcher to make a bootable USB stick installer.

Macs as old as 2007 are running Monterey with no issues.

Once I update my 14” MBP M1Pro to Ventura I’ll do the same to my iMac as well.

I don’t have it anymore and actually wish I held onto it, but I loved my 2015 iMac with the 5k display. It felt very immersive with the 27” screen and gives you a totally different experience from a MacBook. I might get the iMac Pro whenever Apple decides to release it.

I just installed Ventura on my Late 2013 iMac and I agree it runs flawlessly. I even made it bootable on an external Samsung T7 SSD because I did not want to open my iMac to replace the drive which is on its last legs. Ventura runs beautifully on the external SSD.

If Apple would just deliver the replacement 27" or greater size iMac, I'd happily buy one!

My Late 2013 27" is still going strong but the fact is the 24" iMac is too small and I don'/t have the space for a Studio. I've got Apple Store Gift Cards sitting ready to go for the day a larger screen iMac finally returns to the desktop line up.

I was a little worried because my late 2012 Imac has a Fusion Drive configuration (5400rpm, and 128GB SSD, the kind that Apple offered back in late 2012 when they first introduced Fusion Drive), but open core legacy patcher had no issues with that.

The open core assistant walks you trough everything, from downloading ventura from Apple servers to making the USB to install it in the drive of yor choice. You just have to do a few clicks. Other than a longer than usual installation time, it was just like a regular OS update. In fact, I upgraded from Catalina with no issues whatsoever, keeping all my files and data. Smooth sailing.

I’m buying a 32 or 43” samsung m7 monitor to go with my MBA now that my iMac can’t get Ventura. Normally I’d have both the MBA and a 27” iMac. But since I can’t replace my iMac I’ll make do.

Apple’s leaving money on the table. Uncharacteristicly so.

As developer 2017 still using it as most other team stuck with intel . Xcode still mess up .

Well, my late 2012 iMac still runs great and just installed Ventura on it thanks to Open Core Legacy Patcher and everything works 👍 Also little things like unlocking with Apple Watch work after upgrading the Bluetooth/WiFi module, so I see no reason to upgrade and happily will use it for an 11th year 😉 Maybe when it finally stops working they have at least good looking iMacs again without those ugly white bezels 🙄

Wish I could use my Late-2014 27" iMac as an external display for an Apple Silicon Mini... That would be better for the planet surely than junking it as obsolete and buying 2 boxes!
(btw I know it's not possible)
You can try to enable Airplay to Mac using the Opencore Legacy Patcher (Monterey or Ventura is needed iirc), turn it on in system settings / sharing and then add your iMac as an external display on your other mac. Don´t know if it´s really 5k retina but it should work!

The actual maximum memory on that one is 64 GB. Check out this. I can confirm this because I have it with that memory config.

Any further 27+ inch iMacs are a pure fantasy at this point. Anything can happen of course, but there is no information to back up that anything like that would be in the pipeline I the foreseeable future.

The money is of course everyone's personal issue, but if I'd need a computer for work, I'd try to save up something over the years.
Awesome thanks! I thought i maxed it out when I bought it in 2015 but I guess not! Thankfully 32 go has served me well with no issues, its nice to know I can double it if I ever need to.

I don’t disagree but nice to hold out hope I guess….I’d rather not have to spend the $ on a Studio and a display or a MacBook Pro and a display if I don’t have to. That being said I do have a fund going for when my iMac dies.
