In celebration of the Japanese New Year, Apple has revealed a two-day promotion that will offer customers in Japan a free Apple gift card worth up to ¥24,000 with the purchase of an eligible Apple product on January 2 and January 3.

In addition to a gift card, Apple said the first 20,000 customers in Japan who purchase a new iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, or iPhone SE during the promotion will also receive a limited-edition AirTag with a custom-designed engraving.

The exact gift card values for each eligible product are as follows:
  • ¥3,000 for AirPods (2nd generation), AirPods (3rd generation), Beats Flex, Beats Studio Buds, Apple Pencil (2nd generation), AirTag (4-pack), and select other accessories
  • ¥6,000 for iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, or iPhone SE (plus a limited-edition AirTag for the first 20,000 customers who place an order)
  • ¥6,000 for Apple Watch Series 3, Apple Watch SE, AirPods Pro, Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, Beats Studio3 Wireless, Beats Solo3 Wireless, Powerbeats Pro, and Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro
  • ¥12,000 for iPad Pro, MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini
  • ¥24,000 for 27-inch iMac
Apple has shared full terms and conditions for the promotion with more details. Notably, iPhone orders placed through the Apple Store app will not qualify for a limited-edition AirTag for reasons unclear, so make sure to order through Apple's online store.

Here's a look at the limited-edition AirTag celebrating 2022 as the Year of the Tiger:

Through the free Today at Apple program, customers can also celebrate the Japanese New Year by creating handmade holiday cards.

So iPhone 13 buyers get no gift card?, only “new” iPhone 12 and iPhone SE buyers.

I thought the point was for these things not to be seen
That's only if you're using it to stalk someone or follow them back home to steal their car.

If you use it for your keys, luggage, kid(s), etc., then it will be seen. That's why Apple has a keyring, luggage tag, and other accessories (like the $300 AirTag Hermès Bag Charm ? ) for it.

If you buy a $300 AirTag Hermès bag charm, you want the $300 AirTag Hermès bag charm to be seen, not the airtag :)

True. But I want my AirTags to be seen. I'm not doing anything illegal, LOL.

Neither am I :) But I’ve put airtags on my bikes, my camera bag and my messenger bag, and none of them can be seen. Don’t see the point in advertising their presence, plus if they can be seen they generally are located in a place where they are more likely to be accidentally removed.

Perhaps, a camouflage color AirTag might be more appealing to you :D

I have three AirTags I was gifted and still have zero use for them. Like playing hot or cold game with my iPhone. Getting hotter, colder, hotter hotter!!! Oh wait that’s right I put the AirTag in a bag… ?‍♂️ maybe for traveling luggage I guess? Or a bike? Those are a couple uses I’ve seen or inside a tv remote that falls between the couch. They just seem like a super pre 1.0 item to me still.

The Year of the Tiger AirTag is cute but why launch it in Japan since Japanese do not celebrate Lunar New Year anyway... they should launch it in countries that celebrate Lunar New year like China, Malaysia, Singapore and etc... Don't make sense !!
