I have three AirTags I was gifted and still have zero use for them. Like playing hot or cold game with my iPhone. Getting hotter, colder, hotter hotter!!! Oh wait that’s right I put the AirTag in a bag… ?‍♂️ maybe for traveling luggage I guess? Or a bike? Those are a couple uses I’ve seen or inside a tv remote that falls between the couch. They just seem like a super pre 1.0 item to me still.
I was able to recover a $2k+ item because of a hidden AirTag. When the cops walked up to the perp's door, my iPhone 12 Pro displayed "Item X located 7 feet away" with an arrow pointing straight ahead, which is exactly where the cops found my stuff when the perp opened the door.

That sure made it feel like more than a <V1 product to me.

The Year of the Tiger AirTag is cute but why launch it in Japan since Japanese do not celebrate Lunar New Year anyway... they should launch it in countries that celebrate Lunar New year like China, Malaysia, Singapore and etc... Don't make sense !!
Ignorance much? Just because Japan follows the Gregorian calendar doesn't mean they can't use the Chinese Zodiac for their New Year. And calm down, I'm almost but certain Apple will launch the Tiger AirTag and Beats Studio Pro in those countries closer to the Lunar New Year.

If you buy a $300 AirTag Hermès bag charm, you want the $300 AirTag Hermès bag charm to be seen, not the airtag :)
Well the person buying a 300$ Hermès bag charm could still pick the white version...

It’s a combination of two things. It’s combining the “Year of the Tiger“ with the Japanese “Maneki Neko”. It’s a tiger doing the traditional Japanese maneki neko lucky cat pose.

So it makes sense. It’s a nice combination of two things in a cute way. If I didn’t recently buy an iPhone 12, I might have bought one next week specifically for this (and the gift card), lol. (I’m in Japan.)

That’s like parking your bicycle unsecured in a public park.

Or stopping at a gas station with your car door open and unattended. Nothing illegal about that too 😂
Since we are talking about Japan: parking your bicycle unsecured is not uncommon in Japan. Or if it is “secured”, it’s often done so with very low-security locks that often only prevent the back wheel from moving (while not even being secured to an immovable object). There are, of course, places to securely park your bicycle, but you can get away with not doing so here in Japan. Bicycles do sometimes get stolen here in Japan (obviously), but it’s not like Europe or elsewhere where it’s a constant, persistent, ever-present worry for bicycle owners.

Outside of my apartment building here in Japan, there is a small outdoor area where residents can leave their bicycles. Exactly zero of those bicycles are chained to anything. Anyone can walk up to it and there are no cameras. And I don’t think there has been even one instance of someone stealing one of those bicyles on the 4 years that I have lived in this building. None of those are super expensive race bicycles or such, but still.

Of course that wasn’t the point you were making with your reply, so please ignore my bit of unnecessary Japanese bicycle security trivia, lol.

Curious on the level of difficulty of that and did you research like a YouTube video or something? And I assume the battery was just defective?
It’s not difficult at all to replace the AirTag battery. It’s just a simple, quick twist of the case to open it (with your hands, no tools) and then you pop the battery out (with your hands, no tools). Pop a new battery in (the very common CR2032 battery that you can buy practically anywhere that sells batteries) and then twist the case back shut (the AirTag will beep once after you do so). It can easily be done in under 20-seconds (under 5-seconds if you were trying to speed-run a battery replacement, lol).

It’s super simple and very intuitive. It might actually be too simple. Like simple enough for a young child to do so and then put the battery in their mouth kind of simple. Being a little more difficult for that reason might be a good idea for future revisions.

The Year of the Tiger should be a good one. Our American/Japanese household already has the mochi Tiger ornament but unfortunately we have more AirTags than we know what to do with (8) - received a few as gifts. Here's a pic of the traditional Japanese New Year mochi :

I thought Japan stopped using the Lunar calendar around the late 19th or early 20th century.

No, low battery. And it looks easy, but over time, the cover can "stick", requiring assistance to open. I had to use this tacky cloth thing, normally used to open bottles and such.

That graphic is really cool. Would anyone be willing to make a wallpaper for it for iPhones, iPads, etc? I have a iPhone 13 Pro Max and would love this as a wallpaper.

I'd love to have an airtag. Celebrate the Chinese new year every year here in the US.

This is a super quick, I"m not going to waste more than five minutes on this in Illustrator stab at it, looks good on my phone, may require a little moving around when you actually set it...
