Is the Covent Garden tube station still elevator only?

Elevator only. Have your ticket ready when in the lift, as the doors exit right onto a ticket barrier. Do not try to go up the spiral stair case in summer, unless you're doing mountain climbing training.

You might want to stop at one of the different stations close to Covent Garden instead.

The only thing that you have of any worth in Manchester is Old Trafford, and you won't find much culture there. Will you!
I don't know. Cricket is full of culture, and it's by far the most interesting thing going on in that part of town :D

Manchester is the TV hub of the North, and about to become even more so with the BBC moving loads of productions up to Salford.

As stated by earlier correspondents, this should ease the pressure on the Regent Street store.

Hopefully, this will bring some pleasure back to visiting an Apple store; it's just like a very busy supermarket at the moment.

No something to take notes with in class(biochem major = lots of notes and drawings) that won't slow me down by typing. just using handwriting/stylus. .transferring it to PDF is a plus.

PENULTIMATE.. it'll do everything you listed and want. $2.99 plus get a pogo stylus then you'll be good to go.

There are several more out there but Penultimate is one of the best IMO.

Does that mean it should be the only place in the North to have an Apple store? Granted, Newcastle now has one. The next logical step is Leeds. Anyone know if/when they'll be one? And if so where?

Also, Leeds is better than Manchester anyway. Especially at football. 1-0. :D;)

Ah yes, the Manchester Eldon Square store. Conveniently located only 2 and a half hours from the centre of Manchester to service the far reaching suburbs :p

Great to see Apple making such a substantial investment in the UK, given the massive turnover which must arise from the UK customer base....

Just a shame as others have pointed out, that Covent Garden tube is so shyte.

Neat to see them building a bigger store. It will be interesting to see if they do more of these hybrid corporate office/retail stores.

Man it's gonna be massive! They really go the extra mile, I don't know how many retailers would spend the kind of money that Apple does to get the right look. I used to work for Dixons as a manager in Bracknell and then in Maidenhead, the money they spent on store refurb and refits was pennies in comparison and in both instances when they said they were going to refurb my office they cut it from the budget at the last min. Apple really go that extra mile.

Actually I think apple is looking long term here as just up the road is the new (and massive) cross rail development at centre point on oxford street / tottenham court road which will easily be one of, if not THE, best tube station in central London when it's done (and I believe it'll be the only interchange between cross rail 1 and 2 if the later ever goes ahead). Plus Covent garden already has huge footfall and a lot of nearby tube stations...

I doubt it. Most larger companies tend to just have a central office these days, communications etc has come such a long way over the past decade. I'd say the most you'd see in a typical corporate is the odd regional office here and there usually built out of wasted space but as Apples store offerings in the UK aren't that big I doubt they even have that.

I thought there were also very long windy stairs. Or am I thinking of another station?

Russell Square, perhaps? That station is down in the bowels of hell, with the worst staircase ever designed. One misstep and you're going ass-over-teacups down the long spiral.

The new store is going to be overrun with tourists, like the rest of Covent Garden is. I don't think it's an ideal location for an Apple Store.

Aw Bless ;)

Only out-of-towners get off at Covent Garden tube when they're going to Covent Garden.

Hint: Leicester Square's a few minutes walk away.

Wish I didn't live in Derby, hate the area.

This is good news, maybe aim for two in each big city so that they aren't overflowing all the time with kids hogging the iPads ;)

Out-of-towner is the way to be.... it's called quality of life ;)

(Having lived in central London for 3 years, I can say that!)

Is the Covent Garden tube station still elevator only?

Lift and stairs ... I presume you meant it has no escalators, which is true.

It used to be exit only on Saturdays to prevent dangerous overcrowding on the platform but this restriction was lifted after they modernized the lifts.

I look forward to seeing it next time I'm down south but they *really* need another store in yorkshire ideally leeds, at the moment I have to travel all the way to sheffield to get to a store which is really unacceptable for a repair service.
