yea you are right...i was there recently it's hell i just don't know where is it going to be exactly, what's the nearest store to it?

they should open in Soho..in Old Compton Street next to G.A.Y. :D

It's literally on the northwest corner of Covent Garden, on your right hand as you come down to the square from the tube. That pathway is tiny, and always filled with street "artists" and surrounding tourists.

Part of the plan

And of course Covent Garden is a boutique shopping hub and entertainment destination, so lot's of people go there anyway. Makes sense to put the store there, but I think it'll attract even more email-checkers than Regent St. does.

I think anyone with enough money to visit London will at some point also have enough money to buy an apple product. Part of the strategy I would say.

I wish they would open one in Reading, High Wycombe or Windsor I hate having to get the train in. Although lately I've been using the one at the Bentall center and driving there.

Wish I didn't live in Derby, hate the area.
What's not to like with the Peak district on the doorstep. And you could always go wallaby hunting on the North Staffordshire moors..... :)

Mind you the football team went downhill after Cloughie senior left.

Back on topic, the new Covent Garden store will provide an alternate venue for foreign language students to check their Facebook pages.

I can't wait to visit this store when I go to London. I will definitely have to make this a stop on the trip. :D

Can't wait to see one open in Brixton. Right in the middle of the market behind the tube station.

Since the tube refurb there are no shops behind the tube, there used to be the truly wonderful Black Magic Candle shop (candles to kill love rivals, for financial success, individual candles to cure any disease known to mankind). The only thing still there is the pub universally known as the Vomitorium (Bradys Railway Arms) with it's rare six sided clock tower, Charlie and the horse faced one visited the other day as it is to become a community arts centre. If you go to the upstairs cafe in the Ritzy you'll see Apple laptops galore, I think PC owners are intimidated by their presence and never bring out their own laptops. The general feeling in Brixton is people don't want branches of chain stores and unfortunately that includes Apple.

I'd like to see Apple open a store in York. Beautiful city, and only a thirty minute bus journey for me, which means I'd be able to apply for a job there. :)

Seconded, it's where I live I just doubt they'd build one in york before building one in leeds.

Leeds does make a lot more sense. The conurbation around it justifies having a store as there's more than 1.5 million people living there, which is more than Glasgow and its satellite towns and certainly more than Newcastle.

Although personally I think they first need to open another 30 in London ;)

Doubt it, Canary Wharf isn't exactly a shopping hot spot.

They have a reasonably upmarket mall down there and Wharfers have a fair bit of disposable income. I bet the conversion rate in the Wharf would be a lot higher than that in Covent Garden, although CG would have better overall sales just by the sheer number of people going through the doors as it's more appealing to travel to.

We really need an Apple store in Edinburgh. This is supposed to be the fastest growing economy in the Europe (or at least they like to tout that here) so I don't see why Apple haven't put a store here unless it's something to do with town planning.

All great news but please Apple make more products so you can stock these places will'ya? ... I need another iPad and no one has one here in SW Florida and shipping is 7 to 10 days from Apple!

A delay normally means Apple have their eye on a location that they're waiting to become available. Are there any large shopping redevelopments occurring or refurbishment of buildings in the New Town pending?

This is great! I had no idea they were even building one there but haven't been to Covent Garden for a few weeks. Will check out once it has opened (maybe not first day!)

This will make Covent Garden even better!!!

The building was one of the last of the old fruit warehouses that had not been redeveloped in Covent Garden. The building had a major refurb in 2004/5 and had been sitting empty since.

There were extensive basements and 4 floors above The central courtyard had been roofed over with a glass roof.

The company that did the refurb claimed that the owner was holding out to let the whole building as a icon building rather that sub let parts of the building.

Looks as though what looked a rather bold decision came up trumps.

I don't know if something new is coming up soon, but they did finish a big project a number of years ago in St Andrews Square - one the hippest parts of New Town with Burberry, Harvey Nichs etc setting up camp there. I really thought Apple would have gotten in then..

Maybe Apple are waiting for a more prestigious building's lease to come available like you say - they seem to like buildings that make a statement.

embracing old architecture with modern electronics

i can only applaud apple's way of restoring historically sensitive and important architecture to be juxtaposed with their modern products....... another touch of value added design!
:)

this also applies to the new paris "old bank" shop that opened a few weeks ago!

i'm sure we'll see more like this happening all over the world........ not just slapping together another modern boring shop area

.........now when are we getting a proper apple usa supported "shops" in south africa? enough historical sites and apple fans here and with money

away from the 2x monopolies that are currently selling us apple goods?!

Suggestion..

To all those who want Apple to build a store near them, I suggest when you travel to your next nearest Apple Store and buy something, make sure the Specialist takes your postcode.

There's a box they have to fill before they print off your receipt (typically they just put random numbers in as they can't be bothered to ask). Your postcode is never used for promotional reasons, they do it so they can see where customers are travelling from - enough customers travelling from a certain area and Apple looks at building a store there.

I live in Derbyshire and the nearest to us is either Sheffield Meadowhall or Brum' Bull Ring ... bit of a distance but if I recommended anywhere it would be Nottingham not Derby to be honest. However ... they do seem to have places they SHOULD have Apple Stores and places they don't and blimmin' well should! Surely their own demographics/customer base potential studies must be taken into account first. At least they have one in Aberdeen now that they've discovered that Scotland is part of the UK .... well done Mr Jobs!

market research

London doesn't need yet another apple store. We need more up north.

Apple and all other retailers spend a lot of money on market research to figure out the best locations to establish stores that will be profitable. They hardly ever just plop a store anywhere that isn't gonna serve a need in the community and drive profit. I hope you get your Apple Store up north.
