76 traffic alone sucks. Yes about time

If you live in Philly - The Apple Store in the Cherry Hall Mall is much closer than the store in King of Prussia. Then again, just to get back over the DE River will cost ya 4 bucks on either the Ben Franklin or Walt Whitman Bridge.

This new store is going to save me coin living/working in Philadelphia...

Well, this is great news when I go up to visit my sister in school I can I see her have a Philly cheese steak and stop off at the apple store to use her discount. Killing 3 birds with one stone. Excellent! :D

I'm amazed that people with cars don't all drive out to the Apple store in Christiana DE, where there's no sales tax. It doesn't matter much for accessories, but for Macs and iThings it can be a sizable chunk of change.

Mostly I'm looking forward to the Philly store to have a genius bar nearby. I had a problem with my MBP a few months ago, and it was a PITA to drive out to King of Prussia.

Is it true that everyone who comes to the Grand Opening gets a free cheesesteak? :) If not, its only a 15-minute walk to Reading Terminal Market.

Forget about the cheesesteaks, if you're going to Reading Terminal, hit up DiNic's and get yourself a roast pork sandwich wit sharp provolone and garlicky broccoli rabe. Beats a steak sandwich hands down. No contest.

Yes, and there will be fights of course when it opens, that's just Philly.
You have to have lived there to understand the culture.

The cheesesteak at Pat's was mmmmmmmmm good though. :)

-- Homer Simpson. :D

If you REALLY DID live in Philly you'd know Pat's and Geno's are just tourist traps that serve the ABSOLUTE WORST cheesesteaks you could ever find... No locals go there....

Apple Store vs U of Pennsylvania bookstore

I wonder how much this will affect the business at the computer store attached to Penn's bookstore (Barnes and Noble)? That was always a great way to get Macs right on campus.... but some people will surely prefer (now) to head over into the city itself to go to the official Apple Store. Interesting!

I totally agree! I used to be on the faculty at Penn, and I would never go to Pat's or Gino's.

There are many local joints that are better tasting. I really liked Tony Luke's (although it was always packed). Oh, man, now I'm getting hungry. The food in Philly was soooo good!

Tony Luke Jr's, Bill's... mmm and Sue's cart in front of Wanamaker.

I walked past that location dozens of times. I had no idea that there was an Apple store in the making! :)

same... I just saw that pic in the first post and was like "oooo... so that's what they were building..."

I may plan to stop by today. I hope the line isn't too long.

not to mention (if i recall correctly) the 7% sales tax in NJ vs. 6% in PA (Philly is 8% though).

QFT. Pat's and Geno's SUCK. WORST OF ALL TIME. I like Tony Luke's on Oregon Ave and some other local mom & pop shops.

Huge Crowd for Opening

Went to the opening today and stood in line for over an hour. The store looks great. They must have had every employee on staff working this afternoon.

The store has a business center, which seems like a great idea to get businesses into mac.

Below is a link for a very brief video on youtube that I took with my iPhone 4 and posted directly to youtube showing the business center. It has a large conference table in the middle and several flat screens as well as macbook pros and ipads.

It's too crowded?

Is Big John's still over in Cherry Hill? It's been years, but that place made a great cheesesteak at one time.

BTW... any of you left coasters want something authentic, there's a spot in Burbank, CA called South Street. Best out here.

Is the Big John's that you're referring to the one with the pickle bar? If so, I believe it's still there.
