Apple's newest Retail Store is opening on Saturday in Glendale, California. The awkwardly named Apple Store, The Americana At Brand is located something like 500 feet from the Glendale Galleria, home of store R001.

The Glendale Galleria location opened on May 19, 2001 and was the second Apple Retail Store to open, as Tysons Corner opened earlier that day on the East Coast.

Gary Allen at IFOAppleStore notes that the Glendale Galleria location is "packed at all times" and the sister location is welcome. Gary also reports that the Palo Alto and Stanford stores are the next closest store pair, at a mere 3,737 feet apart.

The Americana location is numbered R451. It is the 239th US store and the 332nd store worldwide.

Apple numbers stores in the order in which they are planned. A number of stores were planned but have never been built for some reason. This is why the store is numbered R451 but there are only 332 stores in the chain, so far. R037 is the lowest number without a store attached.

The store will open at 10AM local time on Saturday, July 30.

Speaking of new Apple Stores, does anyone know when the Conestoga Mall location in Waterloo, ON is set to open?

Every Apple Store I've ever been to has been packed, and each time I go to my local one there's always more people. It doesn't surprise me they're continuing to carpet bomb high traffic areas with additional stores. They are a far ways away from over-saturation of the market, and each store is massively profitable.

Apple Retail is doing incredibly well, and for good reason. It's a happy, relaxed place, a toy store for grown-ups (and kids too!). People are friendly, nobody's rushing you, and you can just hang out as much as you want while constantly bombarded with positivity. Employees do ask you if you want help, but it's very low pressure and they leave you alone until you need them. There is no other store like it on the planet.

I guarantee you, Apple would not be doing as well as they are now without these stores. They would be doing well, but no where near as well. Even though I mostly order online, I still like to go check things out at my local Apple Store whenever there's new stuff, or something I'm interested in getting. In other stores, salespeople swoop in and attach to you like leeches, they're often dark or ugly places, and it's just unpleasant. Apple Stores are friendly, relaxed, and you can take your time really getting to know the products. That does account for the crowding, certainly, but it's only good for Apple's image.

Awesome! I live in Glendale. I like the other mall, but I always thought this location seemed like a better "fit" for an Apple store.

Since this place opened, I'm surprised it took this long to put in an Apple Store. I mean sure, it's only like 500 feet away. However if you look at the Apple Stores in Los Angeles- the Grove, the Beverly Center and Century City Mall,- they're really only 10-15 min away from each other.

I welcome this news, i go to the galleria apple store and i recently i have started disliking the glendale galleria since its getting older and outdated compared to the americana. the apple store just fits with the rest of the stores at the americana, i would like to mention that there is a sony store just like 100 feet from the apple store i wonder if there will be some rivalry, hey is there a place on the forums or on twitter that people will be reporting on the conditions in the line like they did with the galleria iphone 4 launch? i plan on going to dinner at the americana tomorrow night and want to upload a photo of how the preparations are the night before.

Considering the traffic that all of the LA area Apple stores get, this isn't surprising.

The next store that needs another location 500ft away is the Sherman Oaks store. It's almost impossible to buy anything or browse the store comfortably.

There's a Sony Centre very close to the Apple Store in Union Square, Aberdeen. I once saw 3 customers in there! The least I have ever seen at the Apple Store was about 50, and it's a small store.

as an aapl investor its good to hear about packed stores but-
1) i just hope aapl doesnt over build
2) i hope they start policing such things like letting pet goats into stores - its bad enough when people who wear birkenstocks who havent taken a shower for 3 months stink up the place - i'm glad i only shop online
3) i always thought "americana at brand" was an awkward name

Galleria on it's way out

I've lived in Glendale. The Glendale Galleria is (or should be) on it's way out. It's not remarkable that an Apple Store is 500 feet from another. It's remarkable that there is an entire mall 500 feet from another.

The reason is the Galleria has an outdated look and feel. It's storefronts aren't even completely filled.

Its much needed

The Apple store in the Glendale Galleria is very hard to get to because its buried deep inside that massive mall. It'll be great to have it in the Americana shopping center, where you'll basically be able to just walk to it from Brand blvd. Though, nostalgically speaking, I feel bad for the Galleria store -- it was the first one on the west coast and it's going to look so sad and dated compared to its new, sister store.

After spending a few hours this weekend at my local store and buying multiple machines I wish theyd do that here in Minnesota.

If you are ever near Beverly Hills check out the Apple Store at the Beverly Center. That place is always a ghost town which made it my default store of choice when I lived on that side of town. I think all the traffic in that area goes to the Apple Store in Century City.

There's a Sony store right next door to the Apple Store in Pentagon City Mall in Arlington. The contrast is like Mardi Gras and a Mausoleum.

Rivalry?

There's a Sony store and an Apple store in the Domain in Austin. The Domain is a suburban mixed-use apartments/restaurants/hotels along with a high-end strip shopping center. There's no rivalry, mainly because the Sony store is empty(ish) - anywhere from zero to five or people the times I've walked by. I'd like it to be busier just to make sure it stays open.

The Apple store is always bustling.

I wish that they would open just ONE on the Isle Of Wight where i live, its at the south coast of England. The closest store to me is Southampton which means i have to get a bus, ferry and then another bus to get to...

There's a Starbucks on every corner, why not an Apple store too!? :p

Here in Dallas, we have two Apple stores about 2.5 miles apart. Both are constantly busy.

I don't know about you, but I can't wait to see the store on Knox street when they are finished with the remodeling!

I'm sure the second that Galleria lease is up , store #2 is toast.
Not much nostalgia at apple!

I just recently purchased a Mac mini at my local Apple store and it was a horrible experiance. It was like I was dealing with a used car or insurance salesman. They guy was attempting to shove a $1000 Mac mini server on me once I mentioned I wanted it to play with Lion Server.
I kept telling him I wanted the base model and he was pushing and pushing the server. He even went to get the base model in back, came out with the server one, rang it up and said "That'll be $1145" and I was like for a $599 mini? He said thats all we have. When I said fine I would go buy it online, he said let me check stock in back once more and FINALLY came out with the base model I wanted.

Sorry I did not get the manager though I am sure they suggest upselling the customer when possible.

Made me want to buy all my Apple stuff online.
