Sure cord cutting can save you money in the long run and in my situation it sure is saving me money. If I had continued on with AT&T Uverse TV/internet package I would have been paying $219/month, which is crazy. Now that I have cut the cord I pay $77/month for high speed internet and NetFlix. Even if I had downgraded to a lower channel package with Uverse I would have been paying around $170/month.
And who do you pay for internet? Expect that rate to go up soon. If all you use is Netflix then sure, it might save you money now but in the long-term internet providers will jack up prices. And more importantly, Netflix isn't the end-all be all of cord cutting. Other options really drain those savings.

That is simply not true for twitter accounts on iOS9. I installed the new Tweetbot a few moments ago. It says "Tweetbot would like access to your twitter accounts" say yes and it moves forward without ever going to the twitter app. Facebook does not seem as well integrated, at least last time I checked, but Twitter does exactly what he says it does without the need to open the app.
Tweetoot is owned by Twitter. Try that with actual third-party apps and lemme know (like, actually).

On the surface this seems like good news and i hope it is. The "holly grail" for me is to have the ability to search your own content either through Home Sharing (iTunes server) or Plex or some kind of direct NAS player (like Infuse for example). The problem is, Home Sharing doesn't even do this yet. I applaud the sentiment of getting Universal Search working with everything, but until Apple updates iTunes to allow us to edit the tags to include our own local content via Home Sharing, i'm just going to assume this is all just spin. Until i actually see the API change i will remain sceptical.
Apple isn't promising Home Sharing searches. They're promising content search provided by companies. So there's been no spin. We're just speculating about the future.

The regular price for the high speed internet is $77 but got a $10 discount for the year. AT&T is the IPS. What really sucks is that there are only 2 ISP in my area, with the other being Comcast. There is zero competition when it comes to ISP. For right now NetFlix is doing fine for me. Might do a few months of HBO when Game Of Thrones in 2016 when it starts. When though what I pay now is still cheaper then what I could be paying. And I really like not having commercials.

AT&T has, from what I remember, already admitted that they plan on recapturing lower cable revenue with internet prices. Sure, if all you use is Netflix then yeah, you'll probably be fine for a couple of years, but most people don't use just Netflix. As I said, I'd expect your internet rates to get higher in the medium-term.

I hope someone can create an app that links accurate data to the iTunes store. For example, if you search on Apple TV for an individual in Movies > Search that also has released Music, the results returned will be Music 99% of the time. Also, Artists/Actors maybe listed twice, spelled differently, not assigned to Movies/Music/TV shows or assigned to the wrong item. Unless Apple cleans up their data, I don't see how the Siri functionality they demonstrated will work. I have owned every version of Apple TV and the search function has never worked as it should. I hope someone at Apple realizes they need to fix this before the next Apple TV is released.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Or rather, what the complaint is. If you search in the Movies section, the movie will be listed first and then if there's a corresponding soundtrack, it'll list that too. That is intentional: it's meant to get you to impulse buy. I've never seen wrong data on iTunes/Apple TV myself, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. At any rate, I'm not sure your first complaint is valid and while I'm sure you're not wrong, I've never experienced the problems you have so I can't really determine what you're saying to be a problem.

Yeah, the fact Apple isn't promising Home Sharing searches is kinda my point; Tim Cook was referring to opening up all "content within apps" via the new API, that means all apps including Plex, Infuse, Apple's Computers App and a million others. If it's truly open i would expect to see it in iTunes (Home Sharing) first, until then i'm sort of thinking this is too good to be true, which in my experience means it probably is. This is of course all pure speculation, but isn't that why we're all here? ;)

Might I suggest you go to your Apple TV and select Movies and Search. Enter Elvis Presley, for example. Select "Elvis Presley" on the right side under Actors and Directors. Since you are in Movies, one would expect all movies that Elvis Presley starred in to appear. No, we see all Elvis Presley Music for sale. If one was searching for Elvis Presley Music, they would normally go to Music and Search.

To test, enter any Music Artist that has also starred in films to see what results Apple TV returns. While your at it, enter Goldie Hawn. Apple TV will return: "Item Not Available, The item you've requested is not available in the iTunes U.S. store." If you run iTunes on your computer and search for Goldie Hawn, you will find several movies that Goldie Hawn has appeared in. I've noticed several movies that do not show all of the actors/actresses that appeared in the film. The data on the back end has to be correct for Siri to work properly. If not, why bother.

Would it be safe to assume they are going to stream purchased content from the iTunes cloud, if it's still available in the iTunes cloud for viewing that is...

Probably won't happen. Universal Search probably works via metadata mining, but it's unlikely that your home computer content has recognizable metadata to use.
I would imagine anyone with a reasonable collection of movies have very detailed metadata included. There are multiple apps out there that help get the metadata and merge with the movie file.

And you're assuming that the average user would be aware of and use those programs. They don't. Moreover, there's the second problem that I mentioned that you didn't mention: Apple cannot verify that the content you own outside of iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, etc. is legal. iTunes Match gets around this by users paying Apple (who has made agreements with studios to forgive piracy) to 'match' their unverified content with verified iTunes content. You cannot very well expect Apple to implicitly endorse possible piracy.

Good. Does this include a guide system? Like a Netflix interface, except for ALL content? Searching is only one method of finding content. We also need a curated guide.

Meanwhile, we also need a system that shows live shows/events.

Live content is where interesting things happen. Recorded content is stale. Plus, you can interact with others during live content broadcasts.

Does the new Apple TV have a built-in NTSC or CableCard tuner?

I watch live TV or twice per year. I don't generally have the time or interest to watch whatever happens to be playing. I'd either be coming in late or turning it off before it's finished

I get the movies first for Elvis Presley. As for Goldie Hawn, that depends on various agreements with studios. As for missing credits, those are provided by the studios themselves. iTunes tends to list the major actors in a film, not minor ones - more importantly, that data is given by the studios themselves.

Because apps are largely sandboxed for security reasons?

There is no reason why an auth token can't be available to developers so they can retrieve in their apps to confirm with the cable providers to authorize the channel. Apps can log you into Game Center or iCloud. The same interaction could easily be implemented system wide for cable subscription log-ins.

You want to pin the shows you watch which is neat. But then that just brings up the same question as to why not use Siri? Besides each service have a favorite or shows you watch so you can go into the individual apps and then that section.

You want it to pull content from different apps and display it on one page. But then what will that page or app be called? (Favorite?) How would one access it from the home screen?
I don't want to talk to Siri. I want to turn on AppleTV and the very first thing I see is my - let's call it...oh I don't know..."My homepage" with the shows I watch pinned there and the latest episode I haven't watched ready to choose. That's it. I don't even care which service it's from. I don't want to know. I want to set that up once and forget about it. I don't want to have to launch an app for each service, dig in and go find the show. We have that now and it sucks balls. NO. I want a page with the things I want to see immediately when AppleTV turns on. Period. If I want to browse for other items, I will jump to another page. But I want what I want as the first thing presented to me. That's how you "fix" television.

Interesting that your Apple TV returns different results... If I type in Elvis, I get movies with Elvis in the title above the Actors and Directors section.

You would think that Apple TV would return the same results as iTunes, especially if the data is coming from the studio. It does not. For Siri search to be successful on Apple TV the backend data must be accurate and complete.

Apps don't log you into iCloud. Apps have API's into iCloud. Same with Game Center. Both are apple-owned. Any universal login would use a non-apple DB

Most people would disagree with your statement "That's how you "fix" television"

The Apple TV already has a home page or home screen and it's fine just the way it is. You need to realize Apple makes software and devices that must try to please a wide amount of people. They cannot and will not put time and effort to create something that is not necessary because one or a few users want it.

I'm not sure Cook was referring to the Computers app, but third-party ones.

I don't even want that. I want it to be playing the thing I am most likely interested in watching. If they choose wrong I want other shows pre buffered and ready to play.

That's exactly why we need to unbundle ISPs and content providers.
