This is the most absurd thing I have ever heard of. I believe Apple owes everyone at least $300 who bought the iPhone for those features. Lost a lot of goodwill, and that was Cook’s biggest mistake by far. Ruined the Apple brand too, vaporware and just going to call it Apple Intelligence and destroy the name just like they have destroyed Siri, and this is their main brand.

Just not fair that a company this big cannot even try to make it right by remunerating people who bought the iPhone 16 for those features. At least $300 if not more is approaching fair. Apple has become the evil juggernaut that will rip anyone off to make Tim Crook’s shareholders wealthy so he can get some big bonuses and lots of stock!
Not Apple’s fault for people making bad decisions based on ‘upcoming’ features to buy a device. As such you should be taking accountability for YOUR actions.

It is bad that Apple advertised something that didn’t happen in a reliable time frame like they stated, and for that there should be some form of False Advertising charge.

I feel bad for Bella Ramsey. She has unwittingly become the face of Apple’s failures in Siri and AI.

"Apple customers to pay $250 million" you mean.

Apple will just jack up the prices.
For fiscal 2025, Apple's net income was $112,010,000,000

A $250,000,000 fine represents 0.00223194% of that profit.

Let me put it another way. For fiscal 2025, Apple made a profit of roughly $12,786,529.68 per hour. That means it will take Apple about 19.5 hours to make back that $250,000,000

Absolutely zero reason for Apple to raise prices. That's nothing to Apple.

What on earth is being said here? $300 is literally half the price of the 16e.
Are you saying those two delayed AI features are over 50% of the phones value?
Not the hardware, not the display, not the cameras, not iOS, not any of that?

let me put it this way, value is taken away from customers that makes up the $250m and/or increased revenue pressure is put onto customers. example: Apple Maps ads are shown more aggressively compared to the original plan.

or put it this way, iPhone foldable case is now $10 more expensive. estimate iPhone foldable sells 100 million units, 25% buy an Apple case, they pay $10 more for the case, price elasticity high for high end users means minimal loss of unit sales, making up the $250 million.

in the end, consumers pay in some form. it's pretty simple.

Every customer will get 17 cents, and the lawyers will get millions. Hooray!!

Also, Apple can get $250 million from their couch cushions. It's not enough.

My wife knows nothing about tech. She got a 16 Pro and made many comments to me about how the Apple Intelligence stuff does not work at all like it shows in the commercials. She wasn't mad about getting the new phone necessarily, but the over promise and under deliver definitely damaged the brand in her mind. Just an anecdote, but it seemed pretty blatant to me and was not surprised by her reaction.

Would love an accounting of the “dozens of [AI] features” Apple claims to have introduced, because they list five—Visual Intelligence, Live Translation, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Clean Up—and I’m pretty certain that about covers it.

I’m merely annoyed with Apple’s utter failure to deliver these features (nearly two years, and counting!), but I’m pissed at how opaque, obfuscatory, and downright dishonest it’s been all along.

they are so behind the market on AI, that it would be embarrassing to use it in advertising in the future

How is Apple “behind the market on AI?” Google just released similar features a few weeks ago and I’ve heard roughly nothing about them since.
