im pretty jealous. i can only get ADSL2+ (around 2.08mbytesps). most of australia is still below 1.5mbps!!!!! (thats megabits per second btw)...

Your post does not make sense, you say you are jealous of someone having a 16Mb/s connection, then you state that you have a 2MB/s connection, which equals 16Mb/s, and then you say that most of your country only has 1.5Mb/s connection.

i get mixed up with my bits and bytes. i thought that it meant 16 megabytes per second.

i have ADSL2+, theoretical 20 megabytes per second.

a lot of australian houses still have connections below 1.5 megaBITS. my girlfriend was chilling on 256kbits until last week.

Most Australian households are using ADSL1 which peaks at 1.5Mbs. ADSL2 is being pushed now along with 3G. Forget about the theoretical maximums. I've spoken to many Telstra technicians about my ADSL2 problems and they said if you can get 6-8Mbps sustained on ADSL2 in Australia then you're one of the lucky ones. Cable modem access is much more reliable than ADSL2 but not as many households in Australia have access to the newer cable wiring.

That's good. The majority of the UK struggle to get 3Mb/s on ADSL 1, ADSL2+ whenever it rolls out the expected average maximum is 4-5Mb/s. Mainly due to the poor infrastructure of the copper lines that BT own in the UK.

Shaw Nitro is pretty fast 25 Mbps download speed. Mind you who has it.

I tried it out for one month, but at $99 it was too pricey for me. I'm happy with Shaw's $40/month 10Mbs speed with 100GB download. What Shaw needs is to increase the upload speed on those plans from 1Mbs to 2Mbs or higher. That'll make videoconferencing with HD cameras more useable.

what speed is T1, T2 etc?? im not familar with that in our country (from what i know) especially in my area, its either ADSL (256kb, 512kb, 1.5mb, 8mb) or ADSL2+ (20mb) haha.. no cable is connected where i am for a good 50k's

A regular T1 connection is 1.5 mb up and down. This is for most uses very slow, though it is a guarenteed connection, over say cable or DSL. There is also bonded T1 connection that is basically a T1 + T1 that gives 3 mb up and down.

see this is what i hate about DSL and our ISP companies in australia...

we are starting to get faster download speeds, but we have pathetic 1mb upload speed, and that isnt even guaranteed. i barely hit 90kbps uploading. the prices are disgusting and they rip us off because ADSL2+ is supposed to be 24mbps, but they give us only 20mbps theoretical max...

 you can get 100gb limits??? that is amazing... for $99 AUS per month i get 25gb.

Most US cable companies limit upload speeds to 384 kbps.

but at least there is an option with a few ISP companies to go higher if you wish, ours is limited pretty much by the quality of our line speed to 1mbps.. we are unable to get much higher than that (maybe hit 8mbps in some places)

I have the option to increase mine to 700 something kbps. Still less than your 1 mbps. So I think you have higher upload bandwidth than most Americans do.

Yeah, internet plans in Canada are less than half what I pay in Australia and no contracts either. In Sydney I use Bigpond's cable and I have to sign a stupid 2yr contract and pay $89 for 25GB.

Where are you that you can only go up to 700 kbps? I can get up to 2 mbps in the Philly area with Comcast.

1mbps is for our most expensive ADSL2+, which a lot of people do not have, they are limited to either 256kb or 512kb. 700kb is nowhere near enough. we need at least 8mbps :p

its disgusting isnt it, i have telstra. they are the biggest rip off there is. id much rather go with TPG, iiNet, iPrimus or even Optus!!! . stupid private companies.

^ i wish Australia would get unlimited data plans like in the US. im so sick of worrying about my limit. im already over my 12GB limit (video is a killer!) on 1.5 Mb/s BigPond and im stuck with dialup speeds for the rest of the month.

i will change to Adam 24Mb/s with 20GB of data once the ports free up in my local exchange.
its pretty sad, i hate having to check my usage. 25gb gives you only like 700mb per day which is nowhere near enough, especially seeing as though i use a lot of remote desktop to various computers. im looking to host a home based web site but thats not going to happen

I hear ya DoFoT9.

I haven't purchased an AppleTV in Australia because I found my iTunes movie downloads take too long (slower than my max download speeds permits) and would chew up my 25GB limit in no time. Apple needs to host iTunes servers in Australia.

I would have gone back with Internode rather than Telstra but ADSL2+ is extremely unreliable in the Northern Beaches area of Sydney so I had to go to cable which Internode doesn't service. All the Telstra technicians we've spoken to grimace when they hear me repeat "oh but Telstra's ads state how great ADSL2 is and 20+MB/s!!!"

I still use the FireWire iSight on a cinema display. The picture quality is way better than the built-in USB cams on my other Macs. I can't see USB 2 delivering a better camera stream maybe this will be USB 3?

I'm pretty sure the quality of the camera & lens has much more to do with the quality of the stream than the connection type. For built-in iSight, Apple has been using among the cheapest cell phone camera assemblies. If you're willing to take a few extra steps, you can use an HD camcorder, you might be able to use that as an iSight substitute, assuming it offers a way to stream using whatever USB offers for streaming, or DV/HDV transport over Firewire. If you have a good one that offers optical zoom and a good sensor, then you probably have something that will do a better job than Apple's unit.

If it connects to my iPad, I'm game. Realistically I don't see this happening in the future. It would, like everyone else said, be a step backward for them although I know this has always been a complaint of the Mac Pro people.
