and support for the eSOM

Aw, mine doesn't have an eSOM, only an eSIM. :-(

(psst typo)

edit to add: less than 300 words and two errors and the article beneath this has an error too. I know this is a "blog" but maybe editors could be helpful.

Am I the only one who has used FaceTime maybe twice in the past 5 years?

Nope. Surely you are not.
You could come up with the weirdest thing on the universe and trust me, you won't be the only one. Originality is rare nowadays.
Speaking of Facetime, I don't use it much but I know plenty of people (particularly families) who heavily use it on daily basis.

Wouldn’t it be sweet if you could opt out of the emoji updates? Maybe make them an add-on in the App Store?
It doesn't work that way. Emoji are getting assigned Unicode Code Points (basically a unique number for each "character", where "A" is 65, "B" is 66, and so on) by the Unicode Consortium. In order to support a given release of the Unicode standard, you have to support the new "characters". They're not just stickers that you can opt into.

I'd be happier if we were still back with a less-than-two-dozen non-representational circular yellow faces, and left it at that. But the world has chosen a different path, one where next we'll be worrying about "hey, we're leaving out different eye colors, let's add those". It wasn't supposed to be tiny portraits. Sigh.

Will it fix the dreadful usability of flipping the camera with FT? I now just flip the whole phone as the camera-flip option is simply a pain..

God this! Worst design they have ever done to Face Time. Used to be just one touch. Now it's a mess of buttons and menus that's just absurd. All for the sake of crappy snapchat like features that nobody (at least me) really wants. Bring back Live Photos in face time too please!!!!

What would that change when it comes to updates like this which have various other things that are included?

AND hopefully, with a Fix for the XR memory limitation problem !

Off the Radar of most, but should be smack in the center of everyone's Radar today !

It is a VERY BIG BFD !

Speaking of LTE issues, does the XR have the same issues with LTE like the XS or XS Max?

I'm not sure iOS 12.1 will fix LTE issues if it's based on the same chipset as the XS/XSM or if a fix is even possible with software. I'm considering buying a XR for a family member.

Last time I used FaceTime was when they first released it. And that was only to test it.

I think it came out when the iPhone 4 was released?

Anyways I'm more interested in the eSIM.

I just came back from Asia and it was kind of a hassle switching my SIM card.

Also I missed a few important calls because I was using A local SIM card.

Can you explain? Not familiar with this issue.

Living languages evolve. Originally people only thought emotions would be conveyed through them. Then people started conveying things other than were originally intended through them. They realized they could represent some people but not others pretty well through them. So those other people appeared excluded. So now they're getting included in the evolving language of emojis.

What happened to FaceTime being an open standard? Didn't Jobs promise that 8 years ago? What happened? Did he die and then some new guy focused more on profits than having stuff just work replace him?

It kind of kills the idea of group FaceTime that it won't be on Android. With every person you want to include in your group chat, its increasingly likely someone will be using Android and you'll be forced to use something that's actually cross platform instead.
