Speaking of LTE issues, does the XR have the same issues with LTE like the XS or XS Max?

I'm not sure iOS 12.1 will fix LTE issues if it's based on the same chipset as the XS/XSM or if a fix is even possible with software. I'm considering buying a XR for a family member.
I have seen a couple of posts from new XR owners facing signal problems.

I use it roughly 4-6 hours daily, to conference my wife.

Group FaceTime will be really handy for businesses. I’m looking forward to using it for conferences at work.

can't say i would ever use group facetime

That’s for your own personal use that you may not, but I can guarantee you businesses and families will use Group FaceTime. The usefulness will be there for those who can conjoin with each other, and I really see this being an asset to businesses for either groupthink projects/meetings.

Are you newlywed or is this a joke? Even when I was dating my wife and she lived a state away we would only talk for an hour or two each day on the phone on nights and weekends minutes because that's all we could do. FaceTime didn't exist in 2008 and 2009. It was more like a shaky Skype call from her crappy Dell webcam that was prone to dropping her neighbor's WiFi.

Now my wife and I text maybe 10-20 times during the day and talk for maybe 15-30 minutes total in the evening. Not because we aren't good at communicating, but there's just not that much to say at this point and we're pretty organized with our calendars. We're both happy in the relationship. I just can't imagine what I would talk with my wife about for 4-6 hours per day—and on FaceTime no less! Any time I use FT to see my grandparents it chews through my battery too, and I always have the newest iPhone.

Why do you facetime your wife so much?

Newlyweds and we both have the gift of gab.

Am I the only one who has used FaceTime maybe twice in the past 5 years?
nope, you are not. I think I used facetime once.
Everyone has skype or whatsapp but facetime is only on iOS so I don't use that. I'm surprised that people are actually excited for facetime.

And the guy that uses it for 4-6 hours a day with his wife, is he having long distance marriage? :)

This is going to be great for my family. Lots of family in different parts of the country that don't get to come together very often now will be able to do so because of this.

You two can’t be serious to pretend like you (and nobody in your family) didn’t know about that thing called Skype, which has been around for the last 15 years?

My family all has iPhones and iPads. They all use FaceTime and have for years. They, especially the parents and grandparents, aren't downloading and learning a new app. Just the reality of the situation.

Exactly, I hate having 3 or 4 apps to FaceTime with different platforms. Apple needs to release FaceTime via web browser so all mobile and desktop platforms could play.

FaceTime app just works better.

Yep.

Apple today announced that it plans to release iOS 12.1 to the public tomorrow following its Brooklyn event that is expected to see the debut of new iPad Pro models and refreshed Macs.

As we've discovered in the iOS 12.1 betas that have been available since September, iOS 12.1 brings several important new features to the iPhone and the iPad.

The update brings support for Group FaceTime, the feature designed to let users chat with up to 32 people at one time. Group FaceTime was present in the iOS 12 beta, but it was removed from the iOS 12 launch to provide Apple with additional time to develop the feature.

Other FaceTime features are included in iOS 12.1 as well, such as automatic detection of active speakers to surface the icon of the person who is speaking, ringless notification to let you join a call without being disruptive, and Messages integration for starting a Group FaceTime call right from the Messages app from a group chat.

iOS 12.1 will also bring more than 70 new emoji characters, such as cold face, woozy face, hot face, red hair, white hair, leg, foot, teddy bear, llama, raccoon, kangaroo, mango, cupcake, bagel, and tons more. A full list of all of the new emoji is available here.

On iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, iOS 12.1 introduces real-time Depth Control so you can adjust the amount of background blur before a photo is even captured, and support for the digital eSIM, which will allow two SIMs to be used at one time.

iOS 12.1 should be released alongside new updates for tvOS, watchOS, and macOS right around 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, Apple's typical release time for new software updates.

My family is on iOS (wife, sister, both parents); and compared to FaceTime, Skype SUCKS for ease of use, stability and call quality. I’m excited about Group FaceTime, talking to my mum and dad without them passing the phone back and forth will be great.

I gave Skype a good try a few years back. I had the same experience.

FaceTime just worked. It was clear, stable, great audio and video, rarely dropped. Whatever Apple does ... it works.

Adding multiple streams will be interesting but I look forward to it for family reasons too.
