I think, if this feature will be used a lot and working, sooner or later you will just have to disable the feature in order to access site content. We can see it already happening with ad blockers …

Luckily, that's not how it works. Apple's system is two tier and encrypted: The first tier is Apple's, which is able to determine who you are but can't decrypt where you're connecting to. It's handed off to a non-Apple server, which is able to decrypt who you're connecting to but has no idea who you are (unless your username or something is in the content of an unsecured request, of course).

Assuming your traffic can go through iCloud Private Relay, nobody and nothing other than your device knows simultaneously who you are and who you're connecting to.
Both servers and the device are controlled by apple.
This is marketing spin. They have full access to everything you send through the relay and full control over what they want to look at. Don’t kid yourself.

this is just like the “we encrypt your photos” but we can still scan them and review them before we police your thought and arrest you.

Just wait. Soon they will announce a new feature (that they have secretly been doing since inception) that they will scan the websites u visit against a secret database of child porn website hashes and report anyone who matches over a certain (but arbitrarily changing) threshold to the authorities. After having an apple employee review it for any false positives of course. They might even move the scanning to your device so they can report you even if you don’t use the relay.

But don’t worry, if u aren’t doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about. Think of the children!

Let's just be clear - Apple have already bowed to the Chinese government and blocked certain keywords from engravings. Anyone who thinks Tim couldn't or wouldn't be happy to hash up some URLs from this tunnel for the US or UK governments for 'National Security' must be smoking something.

looks like my ISP doesn’t like it. 😓

Another big disappointment after Apple dropped the Shareplay.

Share screen is the feature that make FaceTime as competitive as Zoom for office meetings.

iCloud Private Relay is the feature I am looking to jump in iCloud service which is apparently less capable than Google drive given iCloud web interface is much less functional than that of Google.

I have even thought of Apple further extending the private relay beyond Safari browsing for any internet traffic going out the devices.

Should I wait for six more months?

We get it. You don't want your phone checked for child abuse images. Now get over it.
No you didn’t get it. It’s not the children bs, it’s the algorithm spying your files. No one has access to their source code running on devices and server side, basically they are full of bs using children as propaganda for mass surveillance.

Getting tired of the “save the children” bs from people, that’s not the issue.

Yeah… I don’t trust them anymore! Later on they will come up with something that would be for our “own good” but will read and analyze all you are doing with your “encrypted“ data.
I'm not sure why anyone would "trust" a company when they are most interested in your $.

There are women and men like that---they're called "prostitutes."

I assume this is the future of these forums? Every time Apple announces a privacy feature, people will complain they don’t trust Apple.

Once you lose trust it’s very difficult to get it back.
I used to believe Apple would always protect privacy not because they are good but because it’s their USP.
Now I don’t trust them to regard privacy as anything more than just another marketing word.

Private, until Apple decides to compare domains you visit to a list of hashes that may or may not include sites hosting information similar to the Panama Papers or other journalistic information their buddies at the CIA blacklist. At which point, genuine journalists best expect to be at the mercy of the patriot act for “reasons”.

But of course, rebranded as “think of the children!”.

You cannot have privacy without trust Apple. Such potential pissed away…

CSAM is done on device and next tier is supposedly an encrypted iCloud. There is no reason why Apple couldn't look at your browsing history on device before it makes that next jump to iCPR.

Apple brought this skepticism on themselves.

Don't worry you can turn it off -> Child abusers will be able to turn it off today-> It doesn't work as intended -> Disable turn off option later -> Blank check to every lawmaker and government in the world to enforce whatever they want.

Maybe you would be happy about Donnie, China or XYZ scanning iPhones for protestors, gays, and who knows what, but that's not an attractive future for many of us.

You know how to avoid that? Not implementing it.

I, for one, am happy that with the new cloud relay feature nobody can listen in on my connections anymore, except Apple that is. And we all know Apple would never invade my privacy or search my images for things the government tells them are illegal.

I recently saw a screenshot of CNN declaring "new terrorist threats" such as "disagreeing with the government on the dangers of (a certain disease)".

"terrorist" scanning coming next!

I am not a big fan of 1.1.1.1, assuming that is what Apple is using. I have tried their app and their DNS servers, and it seems to work ok at first, but eventually things come to a grinding halt on the network. I change back to a different DNS provider, like OpenDNS or Google, and everything on the network comes back to life. I am sure Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 works for some, I've just not had good long term results with them. And I have tried them on multiple ISP's, different routers, etc.., same result. Managing some wireless access points for someone on multiple internet providers, changing the guest network to use them, works at first and then stops, even trying their 1.1.1.1 for families, using 1.1.1.2 for no malware and 1.1.1.3 for no malware and adult content, works good at first and then craps out. For now I will stick with OpenDNS.
Similar results from me. 1.1.1.1 for DNS works for a while, then all of the sudden, sites can't be found. Change to a different DNS provider and it suddenly starts working.

seems very cool. i want to change accounts on some services but i can't as i have a fixed IP and my provider can't change it (requested it many times). I even wanted to change provider, to one worse than the one i have, but with dynamic IP, but now this one seems the solution to my troubles
