look i dont care if there is and app to beam me straight to heaven the fact is the damn screen is too small.. so it will be hard to see where to click to use the damn thing...

So what have you been doing for the past year with your 4?

I would like a little bigger screen, but I am not going to cry about the same size screen. I am thrilled about the phone if it has a dual core and a better camera.

I hope all these people saying they go Droid, stick with that so it is easier for me to get my new iPhone. Whatever it is called, I don't care.

I am prepared to be disappointed. I really hope Apple steps up. They had us trained to expect a new phone every 12 months, they throw a curveball at us and push it back to 16 months, build up expectations that the delay is worth it, and now they may just release a minor update.

Who knows...I guess we all will in 60 minutes, but this may be the first apple product release that I skip in 10 years.

You may be right... But given their history of the last few product releases, I think most :apple: fans will be very underwhelmed, like many of their recent "UPGRADES" as of late.

personally i'm upgrading either way. I'm on an AT&T 3GS. It's time for me, no matter what comes out. My wife and my contract are both up (not sure how hers is since she just got a 4) so we'll probably switch to VZW or Sprint. AT&T sucks in Chicago.

Dude seriously its people like you who are preventing apple from upgrading the screen size. People who own smartphones for no reason. Or can't use your thumb or other coordinated functions is not our problem..... Btw how's your love life ? If u can't even use your thumb properly to slide a lock bar. The iPhone needs a bigger screen it's just to small and falling behind. Go buy a blackberry buddy sounds more like what your looking for. I am looking for a smartphone and the iPhone needs a bigger screen .......period !!!!

Wow... hit a nerve did I? I also didn't know I had sole authority to hold Apple back from anything! So does everyone want an iPhone 5 for sure today? Since I can make that happen, I will make the call.

Anyway...it has nothing to do with coordination and more or less reaching that far with my thumb. Does that problem happen all the time? No. Using the phone right hand only occasionally causes a miss when using the back button in the UINavigationBar. Instead of hitting back, I select the first email message instead. Or when reaching your palm will fold and hit the lower left corner instead. While not often, it only takes a few times to become aggravating. If as an experiment I made your home button only work 95% of the time... how long would it take before irritation sets in?

When you are carrying items with you say in an airport, work, or elsewhere... it is nice to be able to fully use the phone.

Before resorting to personal attacks, perhaps remember not everyone is built the same. Just a thought...making the screen larger could cause YOU to go from having no problem.... to all of the sudden... you see where I am getting at. I for one, am glad everyone does not have your attitude. As far as the rest of your post... lets say you are wrong and obviously forgot to read all of my post while enraged...we'll leave it alone. Grow up.

What's funny is that I would like the screen to be larger, but I was just addressing the fact that there ARE reasons not to.

Since it's the morning of, I will spill the beans.

The iPhone 5 is a new device and looks just like to drawings above. It is the new luxury phone and comes only in a 64GB model for $499. It is a GSM exclusive device, so in the US will run only on ATT and it is only 3G in order to keep it slim and the battery life long. The back cover is liquid metal and is radio transparent which also allows for wireless inductive charging as well. It will not be available till November 18th.

Also, hard candy cases already has BOTH iphone 4s and iphone 5 cases on their website!!

One of the flaws in this post is the comment about liquid metal. It is not radio transparent, as liquid metal is a combination of 3 or more metals. It's still metal. Other than that, if it's got a larger screen, I'm in.

The iPhone 4 isnt as fragile as it might seem actually. I dropped mine of the couch 5 times on purpose last nigh t and the glass just wont break.

i disagree - my wife's back shattered in a case and she doesn't even know how.

It seems real odd they'd call it a 4S. Why deliberately break the naming scheme they worked to correct with the 3GS? And why create a device that advertises itself as a warmed-over iPhone 4 after waiting 50% longer than normal to release it? I'd not want to be a AAPL shareholder if what we see today is an iPhone 4 with a faster CPU and more memory -- it would be rightfully disappointing to see only incremental improvements a year and a half later. Apple does have a record of boom/bust cycles, maybe we're sliding into another bust era for a few years.

They are not breaking or fixing any naming scheme. They are using the same one

Do we have a bunch of midgets posting here? All the ladies I work with that have an Android phone have screens 4"+ and they have no problems handling it, even with one hand and they are average height ladies.

Can you guys even eat burgers without cutting it in half?

You nailed it. I fail to follow the logic either. All I know is apple will have the top 2 or 3 selling smartphones in 2011 and again in 2012.

I'm afraid people like you guys and myself are skipping with joy I know. But the general populous, that will make up the majority of smart phone customers see it differently.

OK let's look at it from their point of view:

1. None of them will take advantage of the 'spec' bump anyhow so that means nothing to them

2. Regardless of what the people pro-iPhone 4 fans say, a lot of people believed the hype of the iPhone 4 bad reception problems.

3. I know that this is a balance release product for Apple as there are a lot of peeps with iPhone 3//3gs who are gagging for a phone and have been for a while but don't like the fragility of the iPhone 4 'glass' body. A lot of newer Android devices Samsung and HTC seem more robust for the handbag or night out

4. I know that the iOS is the best by miles, but with all the 'new' shiny, slim, android phones are looking, even if they are not, leaps ahead of the 4's design... sorry, repeating what customers have said

I myself will dive at an iPhone 4S with 64gb but there are lot who won't

If this is the case, then I gave up the chance to have the unlimited data for nothing!

My phone came up for renewal in July just before Verizon ended new unlimited data plans. I thought to myself..do I want unlimited data or do I want the newer design and newer technology. I decided I wanted the newer design and technology and deal with the limited data.
So now if I get the Iphone, I missed out on unlimited data and be getting a phone with the old design.

I guess I will just go order a new battery for my LG Env Touch and just live with my "dumb" phone for a lil longer. That or move over to the S2 as my first smart phone.

Don't worry too much, Verizon won't have truly unlimited data plans much longer. They're already going to throttle you if you go over a soft cap. When LTE becomes more prevalent, I'm sure 3G unlimited plans will go bye-bye.

All this hype for nothing...

What hype? Apple has hyped nothing except ios5 which is amazing and if it has some bonuses like voice and turn by turn navigation -wow.

A bigger screen would be nice, but it would still have all the interface in the way. Android's interface gets out of the way more that iOS, making the screen feel even bigger. But it comes at the loss of usability. A built in back button? Where's the forward button? Oh, buried in a menu. Idiotic. Having to hut for a forward button on the web browser. That is just awful. Perhaps Apple can find a way to elegantly and intuitively get the interface out of the way by choice. That would add more screen real estate that making the screen 4+ inches.

Beyond that, they've updated the OS and the processors, and it looks like they're addressing 2 main drawbacks that Android has - the navigation and the voice. The latter of which I have seen used by people like, twice. Once it was for calling someone, which the iPhone already does. And the other was for GPS navigation which was cool. I want that and I want it to work with my old iPhone 4. We'll see.

But the old iP4 is very cool. Update the guts and you're good. Maybe a bigger screen. But that introduces developer issues if it's not the same pixel count.

A few hours. A few hours...

Well said. I have the same issues from time to time. The lower portion of the thumb touching the screen when you reach the far side is fairly common. Making the screen edge to edge as well as making it larger would make this issue even worse!

That's the problem with convergence devices I guess. It isn't possible to have everything you want in there without compromising other stuff. A bigger screen would certainly make some things easier and better. Viewing media, for example, or reading. But then more and more websites are formatted for mobile devices now and the neat tap to zoom and inertial scrolling stuff makes this less of a concern than it would be.

A bigger screen is, from what I can tell, a spec race issue. I would be happy to see an option for a larger screened device to please those who use their handset for more media viewing but for me the 3.5 is a nice compromise.

Wow....

16 months later and we get the EXACT SAME PHONE with a better processor and a slightly better camera?

This isn't 2009 w/ the 3GS - Android is exploding and an iPhone 4S will not make people run to the Apple stores.

These people still don't get it! I bet most of the comments on last minute rumors is by people who've got an Android, they read these articles, thrash Apple/iPhone so they feel good about their purchase.

I'm sure I'll get a few negatives for this one.

Anyway, I'm super excited and hoping Apple delivers with the Assistant.

I haven't read the thread, but to be honest, I can imagine that we will only see an iPhone 4S (but it could swing either way, of course).

A shame really, because if it does go that way, it'll be a absolutely nothing upgrade; an integration of features that Android has had for years. And for what is supposed to be the biggest selling phone out there (I'm not going to say "best" because that is a matter of opinion), that isn't good enough.

And I'm sure many will agree, right now, dual core processors in a phone are, frankly, a bit ridiculous. They are giving us nothing so far!

I prefer the crisp detailed graphics over the poor pixelated images on the sg2

Have you ever actually used the SG2? I would be willing to bet you haven't. That screen has gotten very good reviews. It may not be as sharp when viewing tiny text, but definitely is more vibrant.

Go read a review, or stop hanging out in your parents basement and go out and mess with the phone so you can make an informed comment instead of a retarded one.

Do you know anything about displays and resolutions?

Please explain the magic pixie dust that allows the Samsung galaxy ii to defy reality.

Instead of ignorantly defending things why not educate yourself on how they work first.

Prove it. Aside from all the moaners on here can you site any evidence that people want these things?

The iPhone 4 and 3GS sell massively well.

Just because it sells massively well doesn't mean that people wouldn't like those changes. I want those changes but that doesn't mean that if I don't get them I'm not getting an iPhone. I said, and will again, it's what the iPhone can do that draws me to it. That doesn't mean that I'm happy with the glass back (and almost everyone I know hates it, yeah they like the looks pretty, but isn't practical for every day abuse, and yeah I get it "treat it nicely", some people are just klutzy), square edges, and 3.5" screen. But that being said I'm not going to get a crappy Droid or whatever just for the form factor. Yeah holding it, larger screen, plastic more rugged back etc will make me happy, that is if I never have to turn it on or actually use it.
