Apple to Release These 15 New Products Later This Year

Apple's annual WWDC developers conference is drawing to a close, but there is still a lot to look forward to in the second half of the year.

Apple is expected to release at least 15 more products later this year. Now that the more intelligent and personal version of Siri has finally arrived in beta, a full two years after Apple first previewed it at WWDC 2024, we should begin to see some new devices that were reportedly postponed until the new Siri was ready.

Beyond the usual annual updates to iPhones and Apple Watches in September, Apple's all-new smart home hub is expected to debut later this year. We are also expecting a foldable iPhone Ultra and long-awaited updates to the Apple TV, HomePod, and HomePod mini. And a redesigned MacBook Ultra with an OLED display is expected by early 2027.

Here is what to expect from Apple later this year, according to rumors.

For some reason, many expected a big hardware refresh at WWDC, it makes sense that it did not happen as it's a software event.

On the flip side, with the massive ongoing memory and storage chip shortage, it would be nice to hear what Apple's plan is - it seems obvious high-volume and best-selling lines like the MBP and MBA are prioritized as shipping is not all that affected (yet), but desktops are in higher demand these days despite being stuck on the last gen processors, and shipping delays are insanely long.

It's worrysome given it's all AI everywhere all the time at all cost - and Apple is struggling to ship capable desktops to sustain demand and needs to cut down available RAM configurations.

Now that macOS 26 enables a fast, automatic and seamless connection to the iPhone’s hotspot, there’s really no need for cellular connectivity in MacBooks. I experienced this for the first time with my MacBook Neo: before I’d even had a chance to think about sharing my iPhone’s hotspot, the devices had already connected. The connection was stable and uninterrupted. That wasn’t the case before macOS 26 Tahoe!

With rumours of an M6 MacBook Ultra maybe coming out in late 2026 I'm wondering whether the M5 Mac Minis might not happen and Apple might go straight to M6 Mac Mini at the same time.

I'm actually sceptical that we will see the M6 MacBook Ultra in 2026 if "Ultra" means OLED touch screen and thinner chassis design. I'm thinking that maybe another possibility is that M6 MacBook launches in late 2025 with just the base M6 chip in the current MacBook Pro chassis (as happened with the M5 generation last year) and the MacBook Ultras come along in early 2027 along with the rest of the M6 MacBook Pro lineup.

If that were to happen and the first use of the M6 is in an existing chassis design - the current MacBook Pro chassis - then it would seem to me to be somewhat logical to also release the M6 in the existing M4 MacBook Mini chassis at the same time. Whether there is an M6 Pro MacBook Mini at that time or whether that comes along in the early 2027 releases is something that could go either way I think.

Given the rumours that Apple TV and HomePod are being held back until new Siri is released and that doesn't go to public release until after the September iPhone launch event (based on previous years' release cycles) I suspect that we're pretty much guaranteed that Apple TV will be delayed until at least late September and because I suspect Apple doesn't want too much other stuff taking attention away from iPhone Ultra(*) in the September event I'm thinking that there might be another event in October with lots of home automation stuff in it.

(*) or whatever the folding phone is called

With all these delays I do hope that Apple TV does get the chip bump that you suggest. I'd also like to see the HomePods get the latest S-Series chip that by then would have been announced for the latest Apple Watches but maybe that would be too recent a chip for a relatively low cost device particularly the HomePod Mini. I'd still like to see it though if it meant that the next-gen HomePods could do more on-device processing of requests, have better voice & activation-word/phrase processing etc.

I have no interest in a new HomePod. I have a mini now. The sound from the sphere is impressive. But it seems like a gateway to Apple Music rather than what I want to listen to.

If they come up with software that will turn the HomePod into a morning alarm clock and turn on my NPR station, maybe. Or tap the top and it will go to my favorite(s) rather than Apple Music, that would be a game changer.

Having to use my iPhone each time, is just annoying.

If I wanted hardware which was a gateway to a subscription service, I would buy something from Amazon.
 
I sure hope Smart Siri requires an upgraded Homehub only and not upgrading every one of my existing Homepods and Apple TVs.

But knowing Apple they will want to maximize hardware expenditure.
 
I only care for an 32" Apple Studio display or the return of the Pro XDR V.2.
27" displays are just too small once you work on a 32" one.
 
I was kicking around the idea of getting a newer Apple Watch for at least a year now. Knowing I won’t be able to install WatchOS 27 makes it feel like a purchase I have to make instead of one I want to make. That’s why I bought the 15 Pro Max. My 8+ wasn’t going to get the next OS. 😩
 
I was planning to purchase a Mac Studio (M4 Max) when I would finally get my tax refund (my ancient Mac Mini gave up the ghost in December when it's HDMI port stopped working, but I still have Time Machine backups plus storage drives). But then the Mac Studios and Mac Minis were nowhere to be found by the time I was ready to purchase. UGH! I'm patiently anticipating the new Mac Studio M5 Max. The sooner it's available, the better. My photography is currently on hold until then.
