Really interested in what they bring out for the foldable iPhone and the Home Hub. BUT as these will both be first gen I’m thinking it’s probably a good idea to wait a year and see what happens.

I’d love to see a new iPhone Air with bulked up battery life. That addition would make me dust off my credit card.

This is starting to feel like waiting for a Bethesda game, a whole lot of expectation and then disappointment. Give me something to buy. I want that updated Apple TV thing at least. It's not like they haven't over promised and under delivered before. I'm looking at you iPhone 16 with the shiny new SIRI that we were promised but now maybe is coming but only going to be there in it's entirety for the next Pro Max 18 maybe.

Hold off Mac Mini to debut the M6 in it for the holidays and delay the Apple TV to include sn A19.
Agreed. The Mac mini is so hot they couldn't even make enough M5 variants. Wait a year and they could launch the M6 as the best value computer AGAIN and see huge performance upgrades that would cause as much as a stir as the current model.

When AppleTV gets here, it's gonna be just disgusting... might even be an 8K, but when used on 4K is just insanely great/fast!

It surely seems like I will need. NEW Apple Watch as my version 6 is no longer supported. I hope they do something new at least

Oldest Apple TV models before next release:
1337 days - Apple TV 4K (1st Gen)
1331 days - Apple TV (1st Gen)
1317* days - Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen)

*and counting

And I am expecting the next release to come with the 2023 A17 3nm chip which would be extremely disappointing, but hopefully I’m wrong.

I have no interest in a new HomePod. I have a mini now. The sound from the sphere is impressive. But it seems like a gateway to Apple Music rather than what I want to listen to.

If they come up with software that will turn the HomePod into a morning alarm clock and turn on my NPR station, maybe. Or tap the top and it will go to my favorite(s) rather than Apple Music, that would be a game changer.

Having to use my iPhone each time, is just annoying.

If I wanted hardware which was a gateway to a subscription service, I would buy something from Amazon.
You could create an Automation in the Home app to do exactly that!

Apple's annual WWDC developers conference is drawing to a close, but there is still a lot to look forward to in the second half of the year.

Apple is expected to release at least 15 more products later this year. Now that the more intelligent and personal version of Siri has finally arrived in beta, a full two years after Apple first previewed it at WWDC 2024, we should begin to see some new devices that were reportedly postponed until the new Siri was ready.

Beyond the usual annual updates to iPhones and Apple Watches in September, Apple's all-new smart home hub is expected to debut later this year. We are also expecting a foldable iPhone Ultra and long-awaited updates to the Apple TV, HomePod, and HomePod mini. And a redesigned MacBook Ultra with an OLED display is expected by early 2027.

Here is what to expect from Apple later this year, according to rumors.

iPhones

Apple Watches
iPads
Macs

In my opinion, these are not new products; they are upgrades from or enhancements to existing products. For me a new product is something that has not existed before in their product line. As an example, a new Apple product is when Apple released its first watch as their had never been a watch in Apples product lineup before. To call the above a new product is similar to adding the word "natural" to a package of beef. It has no real meaning but is a marketing tool.

I'm interested in the new HomePod mini. The current one is a nightmare of problems and the sound quality is... decent... for its size, but I feel like Google's new speaker might give it a run for its money. We'll have to see. However, if it actually works this time, my girlfriend might actually enjoy it this time around instead of telling me she wants to throw it out.

I’m waiting on the new iPad mini. It’s good for a weird niche in my job and life in general. I would buy one now but I want that OLED.

MacRumors has been foretelling of a new HomePod Mini for many moons... Did anything at WWDC hint about why it hasn't materialized?

Currently happy with all my Apple hardware but if they introduce a new ATV with abilities I think will help then I want one.

Hear me out. Apple has been testing their M series silicon in iPads for years, while iPadOS has no need for them. I always wondered why an iPad needed an M3 or M4 chip. It absolutely doesn't. Now they're testing the vapor chamber cooling in the phones, which they don't need either and never have.

This new touchscreen MacBook isn't a MacBook at all. It's a surface-like tablet device running MacOS, or (hopefully not) a hobbled version of MacOS. Knowing Apple, they'll hobble it to keep everything separate, drive the price up, limiting sales due to high price and intentional limited functionality, until they decide to remove the limitations and make it full MacOS in a couple of years.

I'm starting to wonder if this isn't intentional because it's ludicrous at this point why we don't have MacOS on iPad. Even at a premium price, so as not to kill Mac sales, some will want it, while professionals will refuse it. If they gambled with AVP, it doesn't make sense not to with this, it's literally already there.

Currently, there's zero technological reason why it hasn't happened, and I think that this is what we're about to see, but they want the stock to remain low before Tim makes his exit so as to make a boom for the new hardware guy and usher in a new post Cook Apple.

Just a theory...

Can't wait for a new Apple TV. We are still on the version with the "glass" remove, with the swipe gestures.

Hasn't aged well.

I think there is a lot more to it to run macOS on an iPad. Just because they share a processor doesn't mean it will just work.

For starters, iPadOS is an OS optimised as hell to give iPad its 10 hours of battery life. macOS, however, is an OS that can do and run a lot of things in the background, which iPadOS almost does not.

Let's look at battery sizes. From the Apple website.

iPad Pro 13" has a 39 watt-hour battery.
MBA 13" has a 54 watt-hour battery.
MBA 15" has a 66 watt-hour battery.
MBP 14" has a 71 watt-hour battery.
MBP 16" has a 100 watt-hour battery.

My guess is that - given what macOS can run in the background that iPadOS can not - battery life of an iPad running macOS would not be great at all. In fact, it would be pretty disappointing.

I don't think Apple wants to be involved in delivering something - just because it can - which isn't really all that great for the user.

There's also the fact that Apple is a business and they want you to buy both MacBook and iPad.

The fact that "some will want it" as you state, is a void argument for Apple. Look at what happened to the Mac Pro: not enough sales -> killed.

I cannot count any more how often a new HomePod mini was supposed to be released.

I hope it doesn’t come with an underpowered chip.

Which is why I believe the first few generations of this would be not quite full macOS, but one that's optimized for a tablet form factor. I'm thinking a stripped down macOS version that wouldn't use any more resources than iPadOS. Everything they've done up to this point has pointed in that direction, especially with sidecar now having touch input. I don't think this would kill iPad sales as it would be priced too high and would likely be placed in the Mac category rather than iPad.

As for Apple releasing products just because they can, the alleged folding iPhone is a prime example of this. So much of what they've done lately and are rumored to be doing is because they can, and not adding much, if any, real benefit to the user. A MacBook in its current form factor with a touch screen would fall into the "just because we can" category as well. It's more like creating a solution to a problem that doesn't exist and trying to keep investors happy.

If they do make some form of a tablet Mac, it would also act as a springboard for Ternus to begin his tenure with a new product that everyone has been asking for for ages.

I don't know how to interpret this. So ... iPads would be priced like Macs all of a sudden? Or would this be a new, high-priced tablet which is not-iPad? And this macOS would be some sort of macOS light? What is the limiting factor in this macOS light story?

Because selling a macOS light enabled iPad that can't do everything macOS can sounds like a tough sales pitch. Because I think the (few) people who want macOS on an iPad want the full monty, not some light version that brings other limits.

I'd say there's a nuance in doing things because you can. Running macOS on the current iPads would be a bad experience. I explained why I think that above.

A folding iPhone and a touch-enabled Mac, on the other hand, are new product categories that Apple wants to try. Like the iPhone Air. Apple thinks these new products can make them more money.

That's a huuuuuuge difference compared to a bad macOS experience on unsuitable hardware like the current iPads.

I think you've been living in some echo chamber for too long. Outside this forum I don't know anyone who asks for macOS on an iPad. I wonder what the percentage of iPad users is (globally, not limited to this forum) who want macOS on an iPad.

I'm not a big fan of iPadOS. There is something wrong with it and I can't explain what it is. When I'm not using mine in the sofa I use it with an external keyboard with either Pages or Numbers. Anything outside that workflow and I feel iPadOS gets in the way.

It's still not a productivity device (for me) but I suppose it can be if your work suits what it can do. At the same time, I don't think running macOS on it - as is - is a great idea.

Couldn’t you just pay $100 to have the battery replaced instead of dropping $1000+ on a new device? It’s your money but I don’t get this mindset.
The old devices have trade in or resale value. It’s not $1000, it’s $500. $400 after not paying for a new battery. More than worth it for the improved features of the new device.

I honestly don’t understand why people think every old Apple device automatically goes in the trash.

I wouldn't mind an upgraded Watch Ultra 4 and iPad Mini.

I guess I know what I'll be asking Santa to bring me for Christmas.
