My prediction? In 5 years there will not be a Vision Pro. Apple will have diverted their AVP teams to AI products.
Vision does appear to have failed but I wouldn’t expect Apple to abandon it in five years. They have the resources to make it stay on shelves for a decade if they want.

And we don’t really know if AI is the next thing or not. The hype needs to die down some before a clean evaluation can be made. Meanwhile the hype for Vision basically died a week after it launched.

Can anyone here say with confidence the avp will be a cash cow for Apple in 5 years? 10 years?

Not if they’re being honest. The market for the Vision system just isn’t there and the tech won’t catch up to what people actually want for decades, if ever. The idea that any company’s face computer is going to become a “cash cow” is basically absurd. I guarantee you the mainstream does not want that. Ray-Ban’s Meta glasses are WAY closer to viable and no one is rushing out in droves to buy them.

The category is “Wearables, Home and Accessories”. But with all the “spatial computer” talk, one would expect Apple to not mix it in with that.
I would expect Apple not to report the revenue, since Apple was hinting ever since last year that the number of units delivered would be constrained.

They know what they have now is not ready for mass-market sales. It's a niche product for now. They need a user base to allow it to find it's various niches and the use cases that will make it attractive to a larger audience (at a lower price and with a less weighty form factor).

Apple is betting that Spatial Computing is the future. They're clearly not betting that it is the present. So I don't think they'll emphasize Vision Pro revenue in their earnings report.

WWDC is the thing to watch. How much attention will they give to Vision Pro, and how is Vision OS integrated with the other OS lines? Will Vision OS get the new AI toys? That will tell us a lot about how committed Apple is to the future (the future being Spatial Computing, of course).

When the iPhone launched, the world talked about it. And still talks about it.

When AVP launched, it got a launch week of headlines (and memes).

Nobody is talking about AVP now. Unless something else happens, I agree with the other comment. Apple misread the market. VR is and has been dead. AI is the next tech revolution and Apple is late.

Agreed. A little bit. If the price was much more accessible, this product would take off. It wouldn’t replace all devices, but people would love to sit down for an immersive experience like a movie. For $1k? Definitely. Even for $1500. $3500 and people don’t even think about the product.

Given their marketing for the device it seems as if Apple does think that future is now. Nowhere in their official commentary on it is anything even hinting that it’s a beta, a trial balloon, a hobby or a basis for something better.

“Take off” is subjective. Apple isn’t going to do iPhone numbers with Vision even if it was priced like an iPhone. What you’re describing is the product cycle of the Quest and similar: “This is cheap! Fun!” Two weeks later: “I haven’t touched it in days.”

At least by pricing it high Apple has forced adopters to make a legitimate try at using it regularly. With a 3.5k investment most will use it more than they probably actually want to just to get their money back out of it.

But the bottom line is that price really isn’t the issue with Vision. If it was actually “iPhone great” people would shell out 3.5k without blinking an eye. There are much bigger problems with the Vision system than the price.

Again some of you guys attacked me but i called it. The Vision Pro is a failure of mass proportions.

Yes it's technologically amazing but at the price and lack of vision - see what i did there - makes for poor sales and many of us to continue to be skeptical of ever purchasing said product.

You called nothing, just like me and others said the same thing. Only the hardest of the hardest hardcore tech nerds bought it and people that own stock in Apple defending this failure. Even the hardcore returned their play toy before the return policy was up with in 14 days!

I mean, didn’t about half the forum “call it” and then get brutally crucified for daring to voice such opinions? Yeah. We did. In fact, it’s still happening. Because hope springs eternal, especially for those who have invested $3.5k in hope.

Of course we got blasted for it. They have to justify and defend their purchase. Again, along with some of those customers having stock in Apple. Apple can only go so far bleeding customers for money and this was a good lesson for them. Then again, the next release might be double at $7,000… they would be stupid enough to try and pull something like that.

The have and the have not

People buy what they like, regardless of what people say. Who are we to say to them that they should buy or not buy? To each their own. It used to be that way. No More:confused:

It's also time for the annual dividend increase. I'm guessing $0.02/share increase. Just over 8%. But 3 pennies (12%) sure would feel nice. One penny...I wouldn't be happy.

What does the Vision Pro have to do with earnings? It’s not expected to make a blip just yet. The company sells some 80 million iPhones in a quarter, plus millions of Macs and iPads, not to mention service revenues for over a billion users. A few hundred thousand Vision Pro units will not move the needle on revenues, neither is it expected to.

Should be a decent quarter. Don't know how much the sales of the new MacBook Air would have helped.

Many people on this forum, perhaps including yourself, were implying that AVP was the next big thing comparing it to the iPhone 1 release.

Now that the dust has settled avp is turning out to be nothing more than an iPad on your face.

Wow, how fortunate it is that we readers of these comments can benefit from your extraordinary vision of the future, and your legendary grasp of business and technology. However, I remember people making similar comments about Apple being stupid enough to try to break into the mobile phone market. Building and selling ridiculous music players. Selling tablets! All stupid decisions, and yet worth billions today. The Vision Pro may not end up being mainstream, but it will make a serious dent in the niche market for such devices. And it will open up new ways to interact with computers and communications. Although your crystal ball - with all of 2 months of track record, and based only on release in the USA - must surely be completely correct, given your amazing capacity for insight into such things.

PS Why aren't you rich?

30 billion dollars! Every month! That is so much money!
You could literally buy the White House 75 times a month.

…but that one will TWICE as gooder at watching movies alone or something.
