Apple to Reportedly Stop Production of iPhone 5c in 2015

And? Why would this be a surprise to anybody?

----------

For the price of the iPhone 5c, users should had the opportunity to buy and iPhone 5 which has a much better build quality.

iPhone 5c is cheap, and the old Apple does not make cheap product. The new Apple does make cheap product, just watch at the camera and flash in the iPhone 5s, they look not as good as in the iPhone 5.

iPhone 5c has more LTE bands, bigger battery, and better camera than iPhone 5...

Funny how we regard the 5C as a flop, next to the 5S..

But the 6+ as a success, next to the 6.

The sales ratios are the same for each.

Well, its simple.

5C was a cheaper iphone that was supposed to be entry level and for people with tighter budgets. The ratios were disappointing.

The 6+ is a huge iphone that many people doubted there was a market for especially for its high price. But it sold very well.

its all about expectations

The latest specs or at least better specs.

Give people a reason to buy the 'cheaper looking' (I assume it was cheaper to make) plastic phone.

So put the latest specs in a plastic phone? Why have a 5S or a 6 for that matter?. So everyone phone should have the same specs but different body? Boy, I hope you are never a product manager. Your logic is beyond flawed here.

Ummm, how exactly is free on contract expensive?

first of all i never mentioned on contract prices. and free is not the cost of the phone. personally i think they should be banned in more places. on contract/subsidised prices is one of the biggest scams out there.

second of all there is a world outside of the us of a and if apple stops production of the 5c that impacts the rest of the world (where off contract is more common) as well.

How quickly people forget that the 2nd and 3rd iPhones were all plastic backs. DERP!

Apple's stock price has doubled since Tim Cook took over. That's not "riding the coat tails of past glory." He's been CEO for just over 3 years now. iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were developed entirely under Tim Cook's leadership. Remember that 3.5" and later 4" were the "perfect" screen sizes, and iOS through version 6 had no semblance of resolution independence.

Cook had the guts to part ways with Scott Forstall. While it was controversial, and Ive hasn't been perfect with software design, ever since then, iOS has seen substantial under-the-hood improvements that made the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus possible without the kludgy "letterboxing" used for older apps on the iPhone 5.

Samsung, meanwhile, is panicking because their profits have fallen 75%. They are likely to replace the CEO of their mobile division. And it isn't like they have really pushed the envelope much either. What's different between the S5 and S4? An even bigger screen? They haven't even made the jump to 64-bit yet (and yes, there is a significant benefit to it even in devices with less than 4GB RAM), and by the time they release their own designs (and not just a stock ARM design), Apple will be on its third generation 64-bit processor.

How dare you come here with logic and facts!!!!!! HOW DARE YOU!!!!

I hope they continue to provide an option in this price range, be it plastic or not.

I see teenagers with them and think they're a great phone for them that doesn't cost much. Would give this to my teenager son/daughter eventually.

I've seen lots of established, wealthy, cost conscious (which is why they are wealthy) professionals with 5c. People that use it as a tool, and not as a show off.

Can you even run iOS 8 with only 8GB of storage?

Yes, but you get only one app. Choose wisely my son.

A failed attempt by Apple..... that still sold much more than most of other's company flagships

----------

I've only ever seen two of these since they were released. I've already seen two iPhone 6s.

That's quite subjective.... I've seen a lot in the wild

I think that a lot of companies would kill to have such a sales "flop " :D

The iPhone 5C was worse iPhone I ever had. First day I got it was already defected. The screen moved in anytime I put pressure on it and when I got another one it did the same thing!

Here's my take on the iPhone 5C "flop" situation...

The iPhone has had 3 pricing tiers for a while:

$649 - top-of-the-line "current" iPhone ($199 on contract)
$549 - mid-range "last year" iPhone ($99 on contract)
$449 - entry-level "two year old" iPhone (free on contract)

The "current" iPhone is overwhelmingly the sales leader at any given time. More people buy the latest iPhone than any other iPhone in the lineup.

So the mid-range and entry-level models, obviously, make up a lower percentage of the sales.

The iPhone 5C was launched as the mid-range phone... replacing the would-be iPhone 5 at that price point. Of course it wouldn't sell in huge numbers compared to the "current" iPhone. And no one expected it to.

But I seem to recall the iPhone 5C selling more than the iPhone 4S did when it was the mid-range model.

So the iPhone 5C wasn't really a flop at all. It was simply occupying the middle of Apple's lineup... and it performed like it should.

The 6+ has higher margins and as a flagship device it adds to Apple's reputation. Thus lower volumes are ok.

The 5C is a lower margin device with an ugly build that harms Apple's reputation. Low volumes are unacceptable for such a device.

And yet.....the 5c still flopped.

You have anything productive to add or are you just going to throw stones?
