As someone that worked in healthcare, I appreciate the laugh here. Yes - a feature not approved by the FDA that has accuracy issues was the best way to discover your COVID-19. It was not your breathing, losing the sense of smell, taste, headaches, or other symptoms - it was the blood ox sensor that barely works.
Agree partially.
But 93% or 96% vs 80% is pretty stark.

And a family member was just prescribed an Apple Watch to monitor his heart for afib via ECG. So some of this stuff is medically useful in real life.

What happens if your watch that has the working blood oxygen sensor malfunctions and needs to be replaced under warranty? My guess is you get the version that has the blood oxygen sensor disabled. Do those customers get a partial refund from Apple when that happens?
Does apple raise the price when they add new features?

Every Apple device has a hard wired serial number just go into the device info and you can see it. When there are updates the downloader knows what device it is loading into so AW serial numbers registered after the date the O2 sensor is disabled will be subject to it. The only thing I don't know is the disabling set on manufactured date, sales date, or registration date. But the bottom line is Apple knows what it is downloading into.

presume registration date, unless every retailer has a link to Apple on sale date. But I could be wrong.

That seem to me to be the correct thing. When the watch is activated is the date used.
what's interesting is that some retailers do have links to the serial number sold and shipped, like Amazon:

This is a very good question. Does the import sales ban apply to the refurb watches Apple uses for warrant replacement?
