And then they will be sued again, ad infinitum. A broken system. They’re borking the watches! Impressive that they had a software update ready to go. Hopefully, they will have a new version of the blood oxygen sensor that doesn’t violate the patent ready for the Series 10
Seems like this "feature" depends on where the device was purchased, not where it lives.and people still wonder how they will control the side loading on devices in the Eu. Clearly there is a way, as seen with this regional lock.
So the article is unclear about this. Will they be disabling the feature on Apple Watches already owned that have it? If so, the simple solution is to just not apply new watchOS updates.
Believe it or not, the blood oxygen sensor measures blood oxygen. Wait til you hear what the heart rate sensor is for. After all these years, I still have no clue what the O2 sensor if for!
Isn't this article and the myriad of other similar articles today by definition calling them out?LOL, nice. If anybody else did this, they would be called out.
So what about the Series 8 watches and Ultra 1? This could be a real boon to the sales of the other watch devices that claim to monitor O2 sats and glucose levels. I do think that it would change my mind as it stands now, about updating my Series 8 as planned next year.„Apple confirmed that the Blood Oxygen app will remain functional on previously-sold Series 9 and Ultra 2 models.“
You forgot the sarcasm tag.Masimo is the devil. How dare they screw with peoples health.
Why are you blaming the victim? It appears their patent was infringed on. You can be an Apple customer without defending them to the death and vilifying all others. I somehow manage to do that.Masimo is the devil. How dare they screw with peoples health.
It is being disabled for NEW purchases, not yours. So you can hold off on the frivolous lawsuit. If they were going the software route and disabling the feature, is what I meant for current users.
Neither are still being sold by Apple so it doesn’t matterSo what about the Series 8 watches and Ultra 1? Great. And how will it know to restore functionality if I have to wipe and re-pair my watch? A check-in with Apple servers? Is that function already built-in? Do they already “phone home” to see purchase dates? That would have been some interesting foresight on Apple’s part for the watch’s software to ask for permission to activate certain features (checking location for the ECG sensor not withstanding since that was known from the beginning). Did Apple already anticipate having to disable features and built in a mechanism to do so?RTA:
"Apple confirmed that the Blood Oxygen app will remain functional on previously-sold Series 9 and Ultra 2 models. The feature will also remain available on Apple Watch models sold outside the U.S., as the sales ban does not apply internationally."
It’s just an import ban into the US.
Apple already had the US patent office invalidate about a dozen Masimo patents in Sept 2023 …just hold out and disable the oximeter function on US watches until they can have their day in court and an opportunity to invalidate these patents as well… to give up now can mean that they will have to permanently pay royalties and possibly share future IP.
No, don't jump to that conclusion just yetso they gonna scrap the oxygen feature on the new model September as well ridiculous
No, don't jump to that conclusion just yet
I'm sure they'll have this mess figured out well before then
