That would be illegal

If you sell the discs as well as the changers, you'd need to delete all your MP3s or other files ripped from them.

"Fair Use" covers music that you "own" - if you sell the CDs you no longer have a fair use right to the music.

Hopefull if Apple develops closer ties with TiVo we'll see the following. AAC support with the home media option. And home media option support for the DirecTv-TiVo combo unit like I have.

TiVo To DVD?

A friend of mine just bought a ReplayTV and has been burning all the Seinfeld episodes he records onto DVD. The only drawback in my opinion is that it takes like 8 hours to convert back and forth from MPEG-2 to DV to MPEG-2...plus for some reason there are black bars on the top on side of the picture when it is imported into Final Cut so he has to run a distort filter and drag out the corners of the picture to eliminate the bars. I have been seriously considering buying a TiVo or ReplayTV, but am turned away because of the pain in the @ss it is to transfer to DVD. Right now i use my Sony MiniDV camcorder as a bridge between my TV and my Mac and record directly in Final Cut and then edit out the commercials. It seems easier and less time consuming, but I hate having to be there to record the shows. So anyways my question is how hard is it to transfer your recorded shows from the TiVo to the Mac to burn onto a DVD, or is it even possible with a TiVo as I think that it is a better machine than a ReplayTV. I just want to stockpile episodes of That 70s Show since it plays 3 different times a day where I live now....damn that show is funny. Anyways if someone can answer my question so I can figure out what in the world I am going to do since ReplayTV is on sale at Best Buy with a $150 rebate.

TiVO

It seems clear Apple, Inc is moving away from Apple Computer seeing that as only one business of many. It also seems clear the Apple Movie Store isnt far behind. I've been compressing movies using QT/MPEG4 and they look great and are much smaller than DVDs. Right now the software doesnt support burning directly to iDVD but there's no reason it couldnt. Or maybe movie and TV shows can be stored on an iDisk and streamed. Maybe Apple wont buy TiVo but they wouldnt need to.

I was referring to the changers, not the CDs.

Have you considered the EyeTV? It will record, let you edit out the commercials, and prepare it for burning to VideoCD with Toast. The quality is OK and it will save you several hours of encoding and re-encoding.

I have a Series 1 box with a network card, which means that I can telnet to the TiVo just like any other Unix box on my network. I have installed the TiVo Web stuff, and I can control the TiVo remotely. It's much easier to drive it wirelessly from my iPaq than to use the remote. HMO requires the Series 2 TiVo, though, I think, which is quite a different beastie.
I'd love to see Apple licence the TiVo technology and integrate it into the Digital Hub. I'm sure that they could make it so easy to use that it would become a compelling reason to buy a Mac.
Having said that, I don't think that will happen. I think that all we have here is Apple reselling a piece of hardware that can be attached to Macs. They resell Kensington security kits too, but that doesn't mean that they are going to buy the company.

I was thinking there was a third party commecial program to set up the tivo so you stream video and photos through it to the tv. Turns out I was thinking of www.broadq.com for the Playstation 2. In any case there are most likely hacks available already to let you use TiVo HMO with the series 1. I'm not that interested in that ability since I can do the same thing with my PS2 for a one time fee of $50 rather then a repeating service fee.

I know this is a different topic but I would rather get the video off of the Tivo rather then try to stream thing through it. Looks like it's getting easier and easier to get the video off every day. It looks like all the programs you need are available at Versiontracker.com and there are several help files by doing a google search. Here's a good one I came up with right off.
