Somehow it gives me a feeling that the merchant isn't putting an obscene markup on the product. (AKA "margin")

Yet I bet you feel good paying $200-300 for a Windows OS disc that cost .10 to press. Nope, no "obscene markup" there. You might want to check dear Uncle Ballmer's "margins" to get your bearings (hint: they're "obscene.").

And I bet your beloved Dell's campus is just a vast array of nondescript Tuff-Sheds (built of non-endangered hardwoods, of course).

Funny how even Apple architecture gets your knickers in a twist. That you can spout off in great, critical detail about both iMac power consumption and UV/IR transmission of glass in Apple stores shows how unhinged you've become. El Jobso must haunt your dreams at night.

It must be hard to walk with such a constant, deliberate tilt opposite Cupertino's direction...

True, until the bully came along with all kinds of failed arguments.
I don't get it. It was just a small joke about getting matte screens back that just turned into a trainwreck of photographic and geographic proof. The something peddling Dell's in front of the Apple store.

There's lots of glass and the screens are glossy. It's not a leap of faith to make a joke about getting matte displays back. I read the post and moved on.

Can't say it visually appeals to me.
Apple is very minimalist in their designs but most people tend to forget that.

AidenShaw is not exactly known as the "site humorist" around here.

That store looks very cold and unwelcoming. I suppose its trendy and whatnot, but it just doesnt feel like a store i would enjoy spending time in.

I'm certain that two lines about a glass and stone cube with glossy display computer inside needed that level of reply.

I glanced, chuckled, and moved on. I don't understand the reason or need to escalate it to something else.

As the hypocrite mutters, thrice again.

...and yet, again, out of both ends. (his diatribe about power consumption, that was simply....)

It must be hard to walk with such a constant, deliberate tilt opposite Cupertino's direction...

Oddly, he seems to be getting off on all of this.

It's not a leap of faith to make a joke about getting matte displays back.

However, when it happens to be a Multi-Touch display, glossy is praised, instead.

Double standards, lately?

Understatement of the decade - that would require insight, wit.....

Uhm...the custom glass stairs have embossed texture on top & frosted texture on bottom to create a "modesty screen" from below...i.e. no upskirt views from pervs.

GOD DAMMIT!! :mad::( ;):D
Only in France, where pervs are accepted, respected and never neglected.

Are we talking about the disc itself or the software on the disc?

The mark ups for both the disc and OS, combined, are obscene - at a far steeper margin than any alleged Apple Tax,

of which he bitches and moans about on a near daily basis.

I'm not sure how I feel about a store that feels "cold"

The first time I set foot in an Apple Store, I commented, "It's like being in a refrigerator." The spare stainless steel walls, the icy lighting... not inviting.

But what do I know. If their average site is approaching the average Macy's in annual revenue, they're doing something right.

LOL typical. Like we would expect anything positive from you with regards to Apple.

Heya

I sincerely hope Apple would not open any more "iconic" shops.

What makes them great is their products not the shops!!

Other businesses have gone bankrupt due to over expansion.

Apple rakes in tons of money from each store.

Heya

True but so will cost.

Are they studying the past financial history of other companies who aggressively over expand to meet demand.

Apple sales are increasing but it is due to GREAT GORGEOUS products, not its shops.

Apple no longer need to sell its brand name,it is now ICONIC.

So hope people from apple would read my plea, learn from history.
Reading reports of apple intending to open more than 50 shops next years...

Just look at starbucks...

MANY people have never touched a Mac, and many get their first exposure at the Apple stores. Attempts at selling Macs in other channels have gone poorly - other retailers seldom make the Mac advantage very clear. Many people appreciate having Apple stores nearby for repairs, etc. Each store makes more per square foot than any other retail chain. I think they know what they're doing.

This isn't starbucks - we're talking 50 new stores next year, most of them not in the U.S.

Heya

Actually, what is proven is that Apple dont need stores to sell.
It is proven by the statistics on Mac Rumours front page.

Everyone keep talking about the HALO affect of the Ipods and Iphone , it is true.
Here i have already convinced 5 person to switch to a MAC and so far none of them have regretted it,,,
But i have become the de facto liaison to all Apple products LOLO...and i love every min of it.
The call me the apple guy...

Shops for reapirs,,hmm, yes it would be handy, but then why not just a store for repairs or selling refurbished products?
A small one, unconic,in expensive and just WORK as it is supposed too.

I just hope that Apple has done due diligence and studied the affects.
Historical wise, every company will expand expand and expand till it realise it no longer is profitable or products will into disgrace ..cough cough Microsoft/Dell/Starbucks and so on...

We have a certified apple reseller in our town that has everything and can do it all without the "pomp" of an official store~works fine here in Podunk Junction:cool:

Most people don't have an acquaintance that they can call "the Apple guy", to personally help them with Apple advice/questions/problems.

So until there are a few million more people like you, Apple's going to need their stores. ;)

LOL typical. Like we would expect anything positive from you with regards to Apple.

Why the attitude?
I have many positive things to say about apple and many negative, much like everything else in the world.
Theres an apple store in the mall near my house and its quite the opposite of this store. It feels friendly and warm and its quite pleasant to visit if i'm in the area.

Disappointed in LA

I don't know why Apple doesn't invest in a flashy flagship here in L.A. All the stores here are regurgitated gray Lego block copies. Apple has saturated the best locations in L.A. (3rd st., Old Pasadena, Century City, Beverly Center, the Grove) with humdrum copies. Unless they're willing to tear down in existing locations, there's only a handful places left to build an iconic Apple (Downtown, Silverlake, Hollywood, WeHo) stores. That's not their only problem here. There's a huge gap in between the Westside and Orange County where millions live but not served by an Apple store.

Thumbs up to Apple though for making L.A. County and L.A. city the home of more Apple stores than anywhere in the country. Also, props to opening one of the first stores in Glendale.
