So moving the highly toxic polluting manufacturing from overseas back to the US. Regulation of water and soil pollution made them move overseas. So health of people in US is no longer a concern. I remember when DEC computers closed down their Hudson MA chip factory because of so many health issues it created.
So wait: exporting pollution overseas is something you do support?

After a post about the benefits of bringing iPhone production to Nevada, including a mention of a lower costing device (yes that was actually presumed), this same account shows as positive reactions to any posts that quote it. Even If it’s clearly contradicting the original posts’ premise. Couple this with text that routinely reads like it went through an on-line translator or text generator and the absolute posting frequency this account remains suspicious to me.
Just my $0.02.
I dont think so , BUT if you are looking for an amazing Bot , go to wallstreetbets on reddit and check out virtualmod , he/it basically replies to every topic , and he has amazing replies (usually , some are bad) , for most of them you couldn't guess it was an AI , he is so brutal sometimes its funny , he wanted to kill the poor at some point as they a burden on society , they toned it down lately , but still a trip to read it and see how it evolves with more comments.

i'm liking the domestic production, but it is pretty expensive. Sport stadiums cost way less to build, must be the machines.

Can we all just be honest -- This has everything to do with China invading Taiwan in the next couple of years. TSMC should do the right thing and decommission their fabrication completely on the island of Taiwan and the US should help them with that process. If / when China invades, there should be NOTHING there for China to steal.
LOL. It is impossible to take over TSMC "by force". You will never be able to repair the equipment or buy any spare parts. There is much more to it than just a physical building.

More expensive you mean, labor cost here will shoot the up the price of the phone

Logically speaking yes, and the vast majority of consumers don’t care where there phone is made I wouldn’t mind betting. iPhones are already sky-high in terms of cost and increasing beyond what we are seeing is unsustainable in the long term. I suppose another question is; why should we pay more?

This just gives the competition a reason to undercut Apple on retail prices which is good for the consumer.

Wow, after reading all the negative comments it sounds to me like no matter what Apple does someone in this group will say it's a bad idea. I didn't realize there were so many people here that dislike Apple and their products.

iPhone - Made in the USA (Make it happen, Apple).

TSMC should plan on opening up a third factory plant in Las Vegas, Nevada since there is no business property tax. This will encourage the costs of the chips low thus leading to a cheaper iPhone.
I’m not usually much of an Apple basher but I don’t think that cheaper manufacturing costs will lead to cheaper priced items, and especially with electronics I don’t think it matters who that manufacturer is.

For about any business, lower costs mean more profits, unless the company is already having problems selling an item. Apple isn’t having problems selling iPhones.

Diversifying the supply chain is always a good move in case of the worst happening. Glad they're also looking at Europe, hopefully they don't sanction them for breathing on European territory as usual ...
The EU will say that it’s anti-competitive for Apple to have such high performing, low power processors that only Apple can use. They will label Apple a Gatekeeper to the technology and demand they make their chips available for other companies or pay… I don’t know… 2 times Apple’s worldwide net worth for each month they don’t comply? Sounds like something they’d do.

It's unlikely that Apple could afford to bring assembly to North America. If Apple could pull it off, it'd be because they'd invented an incredibly complex assembly robot that could replace dozens of people and be manned by just a few.
It wouldn’t be Apple pulling it off, though. It would be TSMC or Foxconn or some other non-US company.

Good to see production return to the USA. I tip my hats off to our counterparts in Asia, Taiwan and the innovations they've brought to the marketplace. EUV has been such an enabling technology. But America, in my humble opinion, also needs to be a manufacturer of leading edge silicon as well. But it's expensive!! Billions of dollars to bring up a new plant...

Luckily, Intel has been raking in several billions in profit per quarter for years and years. They have the funds, and then some, to build however many fabs they need. On top of that Intel will now receive public funding to build (or rather, equip) the fabs it would have to build anyway. (!!!)
If US lithographic fabbing isn't top notch, it sure as hell isn't due to lack of money.

Bring manufacturing back to America. Hasn't pandemic showed you the effects of not having manufacturing in America and instead depend on communist china? Or Greed still dictates that jobs continue to be shipped out to India, China etc. SHAME!

I hope Apple makes more products here in America!

Apple has designed many of the assembly techniques and tools used in their devices. Almost all of it is proprietary and secret but Apple did notoriously share its recycling robot:

To my point, this robot is actually in the US (Texas) because robotics enable lower labour, making it an affordable operation in North America. This materials mining stage is one instance where Apple can viably bring iPhone manufacturing to the US. Chip manufacturing is another. But componentry and final assembly are nowhere in sight, unless Apple invents an assembly robot unlike anything that exists today.

Nice to hear. Will TSMC build a whole complex for Apple? I think they originally built the plant for more specialized military and communications stuff after being pressured by the U.S. government.

I googled to find out where Daisy is located. One in the US and one here.

Recycling is one thing, they’re taking apart 200 per hour which is impressive considering how small some of the parts they’re recycling are. Assembly is currently being done at a rate of over 35 thousand per hour. THAT is where Apple and literally every producer of high volume devices are depending on the knowledge and skill of non-US companies to get that assembly done. Apple doesn’t want to be in manufacturing… that’s why their diversification is 1:1 related to Foxconn and TSMC rolling out new factories and following where they lead.
