Rather nonsensical that they were still included in the box to this point. All Apple really needs to do in order to really up their environmental game is shove USB-C on the thing and just put the phone in the box with nothing else(including those stupid stickers). I am sure the stuff on the pointless little booklet could be printed on the inside of the box too.

Apple doesn’t care about the enviroment, they use the “environment” for more greed.

If Apple cared about the environment, you wouldn’t need to replace an entire Apple device if something is broken.

Apple: “Let them have dongles”.

Apple’s no longer included EarPods use the Lightning port I think and they’d much rather have you buy AirPods or Beats than use the dongle with a third party earphone attached.

You know he’s having a fine wine tonight.

California certainly has way better quality wines than cable-operated earplugs. They should have included a bottle of wine instead of these low quality plugs.

Just another way to make money, under the pretence of saving the environment. So we now have to order a new cable, a new plug and a new pair of ear phones - three different boxes, packaged in another box and delivered by another van on another occasion. How does that save the environment?!

Weirdly nobody in our household had to do that as these accessories were all still around.

I don't see the environmental benefits of cooking brain cells with radio frequency (RF) energy and exposure.

But then you probably also don’t use WiFi and have exactly zero cellular devices in your vicinity to at least temporarily seem credible.

So… buy one if you don’t have one, then you have one you can use for years to come?

Exactly- and you can even pick a charger more suited to your specific needs in terms of power delivery or ports offered.

any stats to back up that "most" people have both an iphone AND USB-C power plug?

most people don't even have an iPhone.

Any stats to the contrary? I’d assume at this stage that the majority of iPhone customers are repeat buyers not first time buyers.

so there are no children growing up to the age where they get their first smartphone?

And they don’t live with families where smartphones are already around for years or get them handed down from a family member who used them previously. These kids all live alone in a bubble and need everything new. Right.

You're missing the most important part.

REQUESTING these items. YOU MUST ASK

NOT being offered. THEY ARE NOT ASKING YOU

there's a big difference in the "human nature" you speak of when these different positions are actually used.

I never said I really liked wired headphones.

I said it would be nice if I could get them if I requested them (as a back up if I forget my AirPods or they run out of battery) at no cost.
Don’t think apple will do that as it creates a secondary market to compete with them.

It would be nice if Apple would include an "OPT-IN" to request a lightning to 3.5mm adapter when every iPhone is purchased. Or provide the earbuds if requested when purchasing a new iPhone.

It doesn't need to be in retail packaging, just the adapter or earbuds themselves in a recyclable zip lock bag.

You don't have to provide them for everyone, just the people who ask for them when they purchase their new iPhone.

Oh and the USB-C charging brick too.

but Apple aint nice, Make'em pay thrice!
I actually love this idea.

Reminds me of the days when Nokia reigned supreme and one needs to buy earphones as an "optional accessory". Which conveniently (for the company) is tied to the phone's model(s).

any stats to back up the claim that "most" will already a power plug with a USB-C connector on it?

the lightning to USB-C cable is irrelevant as that is already included in the phone box.
... for now. Future models would likely need one to purchase a MagSafe charger separately or otherwise won't be able to charge the phone at all. Otherwise, "use your existing" MagSafe charger ?

But you are correct, those without a previous lighting cable and a USBA charging brick will have to either buy a USBA lightning cable or USBC charging brick. But that’s probably a pretty small group of people at this point.

Or simply buy a USB-C female to USB-A male adapter:
