doesnt the source have a excellent traking record so this is basically all confirmed to happen on the 16th? just waiting for invites still.
Yes, the website that originally ran this story does seem to have a good track record when it comes to this. However, with it being effectively 8 days away and no invites sent out does raise an eyebrow or two. Also, it happening on a Thursday just seems off. There are a number of weekly printed publications that appear on news stands at the end of the week, so having an event on Thursday would take a bit of wind out of their sails.

Further, are they looking to have this hypothetical iPad in stores on the 24th for the initial roll-out? If yes, then I would have thought that this shortened announcement-to-retail window would pose further logistical challenges to Apple. Granted, an iPad is not an iPhone, so you would not expect its pre-orders to even approach the same numbers. That being said, if they are targeting an aggressive roll-out then I wouldn't be surprised if delivery companies once again get the thick end of the blame stick should deliveries start to slip through.

Finally, lest we forget that, after the new iPhone was announced, we had a couple of days to digest and decide whether to pre-order. If 16th is the unveiling date, and they are targeting the following Friday as the retail date (no indication of this, but there is a pattern of such behaviour), people will need to make up their mind pretty quickly if they want to get in on the act. This is especially true if those rumours of shortages due to display issues are to be believed.
jim from the loop never said nope to this claim did he? if it was not happening wouldn't you think he would have said something.
While Jim is the man in the know, I would not take the fact that he remained quiet as evidence of anything other than that.

I wish they'd announce a new MacBook Pro!!! I'm looking forward to see what they're gonna surprise us with. MacBook Touch and/or iPad Prosemite (haha) . ps -- one more thing, an announcement that the Apple Watch is now waterproof instead of water resistant:)

Money ready if...

Ipad with antireflective screen,
longer battery,
at least 512 Gb.... or 1Tb even better...

i still wouldn't be surprised if they decide to just do a press release announcing new ipad with touch ID and another one for os x yosemite/iOS 8.1. only this scenario if no invites for a event go out this week or next week.

Just do a press release for a new product version despite a track record of always doing a full-blown event? This seems to go against you saying that Re/code is to be believed based on their track record. Make your mind up :p It is very "unlike Apple" to invite people a week or less prior to the event. After all, people attending have flights and hotels to book and it is usually more expensive closer to the travel date.

Also for those thinking the iPod Touch will disappear, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Not everyone wants a phone or tablet.

Yes, but for most of those people, a iPod touch doesn't really fit the bill either: a nano or shuffle for athletics for example.

The only audience I see continuing to use touches are kids, and apple has never really been a company making "kids" products.. I would like to see what sort of sales iPod touches account for, as a part of apples whole (if anyone cares to google that for me)
