LAN wifi devices/app sync

iCloud still is crippled, big deal..... notes and reminders...... haha, dropbox ease of use still truimps

what apple or some clever dev could do is- write an app/s that syncs certain changes in active applications between devices (macpro, macbook, iphone)

i often work on macpro (aperture/ iphoto, editing pix) or add music to itunes, i then really need to sync these changes to my macbook pro and or iphone using fast localized wifi and not via the cloud..... how difficult is this?

I would love to see iDisk back as a part of iCloud, ideally with possibility to share files with Non-Lion Macs. But that's obviously not gonna happen...
In the meantime, we, PPC fans, have to hope for Leopard-compatible SkyDrive.

This is great news for consumers. These enhancements will really drive tens of millions more people to Apple products to take full advantage of the iCloud experience.

Apple shouldn't be wasting time on this. All engineers should be working on the Mac Pro.

Would be nice if they would let you provide your own iDisk.. After they dropped it in moble me there was no replacement that I know of.. June 30th is fast approaching and all of the iDisk stuff will be gone.

Does Dropbox sync contacts, calendars, and backup your iOS devices? They're not the same types of services.

And why are you complaining? Dropbox does exactly what you describe...

The elephant in the corner of the room is the lack of Pages/Keynote/Numbers functionality on Mac OS X. Until they really address that issue I think the 'new features' are really distractions from the holes that exist between their client (Mac OS X) and iCloud service.

Sorry if this has already been said, but iPhoto in the Cloud, please! To easily sync photos between iPhoto on Mac and iOS devices, and an online back-up.

Obviously, this is coming in Mountain Lion, so I don't think this Elephant is in the corner anymore. More like it's trudging out the door.

LAN sync is already in the iCloud specification but i'm not sure if it's turned on yet.

This is not true. iPhoto for iOS also allows sharing of photos via the Photo Journals feature introduced recently. It's been widely assumed that iPhoto for OS X would also gain this feature, which would likely be what this is meant to reference. Poorly researched article...

jW

Glad someone else pointed this feature out too.

RE: Instagram. All Apple need do is include iPhoto as a core app and give it away.

RE: Sharing playlists in iTunes. There are several ways to do this already but only from the desktop version of iTunes.

I am hoping iOS 6 and OS 10.8 will be even better integrated with each other, apps, social networks and streaming and sync services.

i'm hoping iOS 6 will bring some PC features like we see on Laptops and Desktops to the iPad, like that multi-user thing.

and perhaps more than 1 application open at once?

otherwise i'd just let apple just surprise me with something that i haven't thought about ;)

Instagram Killer

Facebook bought Instagram for $1B for a reason: It's because Instagram would have had the potential to kill Facebook had another large backer picked them up (i.e.Google).

Facebook was built on status updates. Twitter does this better but came in late to the party and is still building its user base. Instagram does status updates better than both.

Facebook and Twitter say: "Read what I'm doing. I have to come up with an interesting way in writing to say it though."

Instagram says: "Look at what I'm doing. Instagram makes all my photos look great too!"

If Apple releases a built in photo feed that you can share with other iOS/iCloud users, they will have become a major threat to Facebook and Instagram.

1 - Take a photo with the built in camera app
2 - Share it to your public photo stream in iCloud with a single button or switch.
3 - Others can follow your photo activity, comment and like.

Apple can choose to build in some iPhoto like filters and that's it, it makes Instagram instantly redundant and flushes $1B of Facebook's dollars down the toilet. Apple also positions itself to beat Facebook as a social media service with a very simple front end that's built right into all of its iOS devices (and Mac's with Mountain Lion).

I've been looking forward to photo-sharing out of my photo-stream for a long time. It's still the second biggest feature-loss from MobileMe, aside from iDisk.

Yes, but according to the article, you will be able to share only with other iCloud users. That won't cut it for me. I am looking around for other photo sharing services comparable to MobileMe, but so far I haven't found anything quite as nice. The biggest feature they all seem to lack is easy download of an entire album.

So...

I haven't been able to log in to IC all day. Looks like another MobileMe to me.

The feature I want most from iOS 6 is to put password restrictions on games and apps.

Yes because people come into Apple stores everyday asking about how to sync their keychains

Actually, many .Mac/MobileMe users came in confused about Apple's lack of syncing keychains between OS X systems. I was one of them, owning a Mac Pro and MacBook Pro, keychain syncing was a big benefit. Now I'm using 1Password, great app.

I recall MacRumors reporting that Apple has been reworking Keychain Access, and that a new version should be released this summer with iOS 6/M.L. The only aspect I miss is automatic iDisk syncing of documents between Mac's. This was a great feature I used to sync current documents between my work and home Mac's, allowing the most recent version of a document to be synced.

Sounds like they want to take Photo Journals and make them even more Facebook-ish.

Ugh.

Just give us back what MobileMe Galleries did. They were great and no one else offers a product quite as easy to use.

+1. MobileMe Galleries was so good, and iPhoto needs a revamp.

1Password ! Smart man.

I really didn't mean to belittle the comment about keychains but that's really heading into a technical arena that the avg consumer just isn't going to delve into.

I think Apple may be addressing this in a lower friction way (i.e allowing people to choose site logins in Safari 5.2 and sync those) via their use of Accounts in iCloud and other things.

So it's similar to iWeb in a sense?

I'll be extremely happy when iCloud provides iWork support, iDisk feature, and a photo viewer for public sharing
