Apple plans to release iPad mini and MacBook Pro models with OLED displays this year, according to industry sources who spoke to South Korea's ETNews.

The current iPad mini and MacBook Pro models have LCD displays with either LED or mini-LED backlighting. The move to OLED technology would result in improved image quality, thanks to richer colors and higher contrast ratio with true blacks.

Samsung will supply the OLED displays for both devices, the report said.

All of the iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad Pro models that Apple sells today are already equipped with OLED displays, excluding refurbished models.

Other new features rumored for the next iPad mini include an A19 Pro or an A20 Pro chip, a vibration-based speaker system, and a water-resistant design. Apple will likely announce the device in September or October this year.

For the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, other new features rumored include M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, a touch screen, a Dynamic Island, and a thinner design. Apple reportedly plans to release the laptops towards the end of 2026, although there is a chance that the launch will not happen until early 2027.

The report said the iPad Air will also receive an OLED display next year.

This is a rumors site after all. Multiple rumors about one product event cancel each other out or multiply the effect.

I want a 14” MBP OLED with M6 Ultra and 1TB Memory and 4TB SSD. Willing to pay an absurd amount of money - bring on the redesign with no notch! I will take slimmer and get rid of the HDMI and SD card ports. I will take 5 TB5 Ports and one MagSafe. SD Cards are mostly no longer relevant with different CF Express formats. And HDMI is no better than TB5. One port to rule them all really makes the most sense. Maybe Apple was early before, so now is the time. I just want the memory more than anything.

Nice but unless it gets 120Hz, OLED alone isn’t exactly a meaningful upgrade for me.
Isn’t the standard iPhone 17 fitted with pro motion as standard now? Would help with battery life.

What would be interesting is if Apple stopped being parts bin cheap and fitted Face ID and better cameras with LIDAR as per iPad Pro unless they feel people should instead be buying an iPhone pro max.

Water resistance of some sort might also acknowledge the fact that minis are more often taken outdoors.

In any case a huge spec bump would hide an expected price increase for OLED which would also help with additional costs for ram etc.

As a side note this year might be the year that Apple up the specs to hide price increases across their range. They’ve already done that to some extent with MacBooks.

I hope they are tandem OLEDs, brighter and better! 💪
The article is saying they will be current gen single stack OLED panels (same as iphones), only the MBP will get brighter tandem oled panels in line with the iPP, which i guess makes sense for differentiation.

I would bet my life savings on Apple NOT doing a touchscreen on any laptop for the rest of the decade.

That's only 3½ years. I won't take the bet but I think it's cutting it close.

Before the Neo I would have agreed with you. But considering their current direction and the fact that lack of touch screen is the only thing people pointed out when comparing it to similar models, I wouldn't put it past them.

The article does say the Air will be getting it too. Or do you mean the air must get it first?
the air should be getting it first or at same time
You definitely can.
The Mini is a different animal and it's pricing, update cycle and specs have usually reflected that.
Since 2013 when the iPad Air 1 released, it has been better than the mini, the only time it did not was back in 2021 when mini 6 released and had A15 vs A14 and a center stage camera. Tho this is not a big difference but OLED would be (if you add oled, do you add 120hz too? ehe ehe)

Just do like 2019 and release both at same time !

With how AI is taking over crucial hardware supply, “absurd amount of money” will be the discounted cost.
