You mean after Apple paid Cisco for the trademark and even after that both of them can use iPhone trademark?!?! The iPhone trademark wasn't free for the grabbing... well, at least not without paying Cisco for it.

Apple didn't pay Cisco anything. They agreed to share use of the name and drop all pending lawsuits against each other rather than deal with the time and money for the various legal games

Either does skipping in line to get an organ because of who you are when their are people who wait lifetimes for transplants.

Jobs was pushed by his doctors to the top of the line because for his blood type he had the most critical case. The only thing his money did was pay for him to travel to a state where there are lots of donors (they prefer to keep transport within a state due to the critical timings involved). Period.

There was a settlement between Cisco and Apple. However, the terms are not known but its typical that some sort of payment is made.

"Fairfield Resources International has conducted a study, with financial support from a wireless equipment maker, of intellectual property related to GSM
cellular technology."

Care to guess the name of that "wireless equipment maker, of intellectual property related to GSM cellular technology"? NOK hired FRI. Self serving and presents NOK's position.

First of all the purpose of evaluation like this for any manufacturer is to see their IP standing. Therefore a study like this is carried out objectively in order it supply meaningful information to financing body. Regarding objectivity you should try it some time. Taking away those Apple tinted glasses wouldn't hurt or would it. BTW. Regarding who hired FRI you are making assumptions without any factual information and then stating your own opinions as facts. While you're at it try using valid references next time. The way you state your personal ideas as facts is disgusting and obviously means you are poorly educated and shallow person. :D

CUPERTINO, Calif., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Responding to a lawsuit brought against the company by Nokia, Apple® today filed a countersuit claiming that Nokia is infringing 13 Apple patents.

"Other companies must compete with us by inventing their own technologies, not just by stealing ours," said Bruce Sewell, Apple's General Counsel and senior vice president.

Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system and iLife and professional applications. Apple is also spearheading the digital media revolution with its iPod portable music and video players and iTunes online store, and has entered the mobile phone market with its revolutionary iPhone.
