I really hope we see an improvement on the final release because the beta was a real mess. If the final product is anything like that, I will be sorry I spent $25 on it.

 Its just unreal that this thought actually crosses people's minds.

Who let you into the beta program in the first place?

I hoped this means that iOS 5 and the next iPhone is about to be released as they are just erasing everything for gold master release. It would be removing all the beta crap from the servers.

It should be pointed out that Macrumors is utterly guessing that the GM is going to be released next week.

There were never any "indications" that it would come out on the 23rd, or the 26th, or any date prior to the Apple media event (which isn't scheduled yet either).

All just typical click-bait lies from B.G.R. and Digitimes, the two most shameless and irresponsible websites that touch Apple rumors.

Its one thing to report rumors. Its another thing to pretend like you "figured it out" and have the inside scoop (like B.G.R. always does in the lead up to Apple releases).

Not really, considering that the beta was NOWHERE near what the final release SHOULD be, and didnt really see and improvement throughout the entire testing process. If you used it, you would understand the pile of crap it was, especially considering iOS 5's been really good for the most part since beta 1.

Throughout the whole process ?

The process just started.

It's been in beta almost a month, seen almost no improvements, and has a "Fall Release". All of us beta testers have more than enough reason to expect a drastically better product at launch, but so far its been more than disappointing. Yes, it is a beta, we understand.

"Backup regularly and do not delete the music you add to iCloud from your computer. Apple may periodically delete all iCloud libraries during the beta period. This will require you to scan, match, and upload songs again. Also note that some of the features and optimizations of iTunes Match may not be available during this beta."

Known Issues
• Songs in unsupported formats will not be uploaded to iCloud at this time.
• Some songs that are available in the iTunes store may not be matched correctly.
• Some songs may match to a different version of the same song on the iTunes Store.
• You will not be able to add music to iCloud from more than one computer at a time.
• You may experience playback issues on iOS, such as slow performance, incorrect track playing, or songs being shown as unavailable when they are available.
• Playback over cellular data connection will occur when Wi-Fi is not available, despite this option being turned off in Settings > Store.

LMAO, holy cow. I did. And, I tried to make it clear that WE UNDERSTAND that. If you even spent a few minutes using it, you wouldn't be so optimistic. It sucks, majorly. Needs massive improvement before launch.

With all due respect I have used it extensively since the first time.

I also did some bug testing and used the process of elimination to find out what exactly it does and doesn't do.

I would list them here but you can probably find them on the Dev portal if you decided to do research.

I'm not saying it doesn't have bugs but to call it a piece of crap is a stretch.

[edit]

As an addendum I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the next beta release will be much better.

I had issues with some songs not being uploaded, album art missing, and a lot of unknown artists when the tags were all properly labeld and filled out. Not a big deal, they'll get it right. I just went back to my offline library. It is a beta after all.

So many people passing judgement on it before it even gets released. Even if it does have issues, think they will keep working on addressing and fixing it. Will be interesting to see how many customers pay for the service.

iOS5, new iPhone, 10.7.2, Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, iTouch, iPod(s) updates all supposed to be coming soon.

Apple is going to have a hell of a end of the year explosion! :D

I guess I'm in the minority because I thought it's improved drastically since the start. Over the last few weeks it's had probably about 90% success in matching my music (it would say it was uploading, but when I downloaded the songs they were indeed matched copies). There were bugs that still haven't been worked out, but I thought it was great for a beta, especially considering how large my music library is (around 20K songs). The one problem that I assume will be fixed by the time the final product is rolled out is that some artist (bjork, for example) will match, but it will not let me re-download the songs. I'm kinda disappointed that I have to re-match and upload now, but I knew it was coming.

Gm not till AFTER announcement OCT 4

There are hidden features they dont want in the public till after Apple announces them on Oct 4th. I bet the gm isn't coming out till after they share the details. One last beta yea I'd believe that.

Hmmm, sounds familiar... Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, when they launched the iPod, iPad and the iPhone. Didn't you know it was a sport to dis Apple before a new product gets released? :)

apple is leaking this stuff

the iCult faithful may wait for years for a new iphone, but most people will just go buy the flavor of the month android phone if they want a new phone and no word of an upcoming iphone

i bet most of the problems are with p2p downloaded music or in multi CD sets. I've had nothing but problems having itunes correctly match GnR Live

I imported a two CD show I downloaded from Archive.org. Paul McCartney live in Portland it was. Match uploaded it just fine. I think one problem is the format. Match doesn't do *.aif files or earlier files encoded with PPC coded QuickTime .

What was the announced timeframe for the Match release? "Fall"? That's a big window but there's not a lot of time left for them to meet that, which is why many are concerned that they haven't seen enough progress fast enough. Maybe Apple will pull it together fast, but it's also possible they'll either push it back or they'll release something before it's ready.

Is it possible Apple are only matching to a subset of their complete catalogue?

You mean intentionally doing that as part of the beta? Or that it will be the case for the final product?

This is a paid service - if they aren't going to match some things that iTunes store sells they need to tell customers that. And if that's just a temporary beta condition, they will need to do a test trying to do full matches, or they're going to have users getting some pretty terrible results on release day.
Throughout the whole process ?

The process just started.

First release of Match beta was August 31, doesn't that seem like it doesn't allow much time for testing for something announced to be released "fall"?

Fall does continue into November.

There's also a reason the testers were given 3 months free.
Either
A. Apple has tricks up its sleeves and Match comes out the same time IOS 5 does or
B. Apple is way behind and will put out a crappy , non-working PAID product or
C. Apple will release it at the end of October/early November.

I'm gonna go with C.

Most layman think that CSI is reality as well...

Two words for ya: zoom and enhance.

I remember laughing the one time a show said 'this isn't as easy as the tv shows make it appear'

The other one I love is the totally bogus ip addresses. Just use the one for your networks website. They won't mind the traffic.

Like I said below, all of my playlists in iTunes on my MBP were completely borked. "My original library" was not restored.

Listen, I get that it is beta software.

So knowing it was beta software, you used it apparently without a back up of your original library and you are whining because they should have nit messed up your only copy???

+1

It's too bad that Google has watered down the word "beta" so much by slapping it on pretty much everything.

As for the iCloud reset: I was actually surprised they only did this one reset. 7 betas without a reset means that their server-side stuff was pretty much set from the start and they're now just flushing out the debugging data in preparation for the public release (which is a pretty common step at the end of basically any closed testing phase).

Or they could just create a seperate build for the iPhone 5. They've done this for years with new Mac hardware. Given the importance of iOS5 and everything that comes with it, I could imagine them putting out the non-iPhone5 build of the GM in advance of the keynote this time, to give developers a bit more time for iOS5-enabled App Store submissions. Additional features will probably be iPhone5-exclusive anyway.

I give a GM release early this week a 60/40 chance.

Fall does continue into November.

Agreed. In fact, according to standard North American system of reckoning the seasons based upon equinoxes and solstices, Autumn of 2011 only just began this past Friday the 23rd of September (the Autumnal equinox), and it will continue right up until December 22 (the Winter solstice).

Here in Nova Scotia, Canada, we just got over a weekend with temperatures that easily rivalled some of our best days in July.
