Fall does continue into November.

There's also a reason the testers were given 3 months free.
Either
A. Apple has tricks up its sleeves and Match comes out the same time IOS 5 does or
B. Apple is way behind and will put out a crappy , non-working PAID product or
C. Apple will release it at the end of October/early November.

I'm gonna go with C.

Agreed, and I'm hoping it's C as well although if it's not ready and Apple has a bunch of other new things coming out about the same time I can see them giving in and doing B. But I hope not, that's the whole reason for concern.

Really, all these comments about it not showing signs of even being close to ready are a response to the part of the headline "GM to follow?" Let's hope that it's just a wrong headline from MR.

The issue is that the vast majority are using the program as part of a "buy your UDID a copy of iOS5". None of those people actively report bugs, they just complain and submit negative app reviews.

Apple should ban any developers they find selling device slots, end of story!

As a layman, it seems to me it's a bad sign if you need a fresh start to mature a beta. I would love for Apple to prove me wrong.

Well, as a DEVELOPER, I find it 100% acceptable, as there can easily be API/data storage changes that cannot be fulfilled through assumptions, amongst other things.

Also of note, this service isn't open to the "layman".

For what its worth my iCloud email just went live (I had a long-expired .mac/MobileMe account when I signed up).

If that's widespread I'm about to sport a fine erection.

I'm an architect... Mr. Costanza...

Edit: I just checked. My old MobileMe account has it's mail reactivated! I'm so excited!!!

I'm now using my years old email as my iCloud address and it's working with backups and everything! TEEHEE! :D

For clarity sake, it's an old MobileMe account that hasn't been paid for since December of 2010. It was reactivated for Find my iPhone upon the iCloud beta, but Mail, Contacts, Calendar, etc. never worked. Now everything works just as it did before when I was paying for it.

Edit 2: Before any confusion, the old account was always there, but before today the mail never worked. I confirmed sending and receiving mail to and from the account.

So is this done yet or what?

Not really, considering that the beta was NOWHERE near what the final release SHOULD be, and didnt really see and improvement throughout the entire testing process. If you used it, you would understand the pile of crap it was, especially considering iOS 5's been really good for the most part since beta 1.

Been using it since day one. Barring a few issues with uploads and some random changes to my iTunes library, it worked fine. No it wasn't perfect, but it didn't have any substantial bug THAT WERE NOT ALREADY LISTED IN THE RELEASE NOTES.

Did you read them?

I'm also wondering if we're all clear to turn iTunes Match back on?

Maybe we'll get the GM tomorrow and iTunes Match will be back on. As of now it's inactive.

Googling the error only returns results relating to previous betas being out of date, so I'd assume you're correct.

It appears to be up and running again, at least it seems to be actually gathering data and not erroring out like earlier. We shall see...

So how's it working this time around? Any improvement in matching? Any new features/user options?

Maybe we'll get the GM tomorrow

The GM of what? I'd be shocked if they have Match solid enough for GM.

Its in fact not back up. I'm still getting the 4100 error. I'm thinking we'll see another iTunes beta sooner rather than later and that will solve the problem.

I realize that is most definitely the case, I wonder why they never mentioned it in the email?

As we inch closer to the 4th, its looking like maybe this is the end of the beta and the next time we see iTunes Match will be either as an open beta, ala the iTunes in the cloud features we've had on 4.3.* since iCloud was announced, or as a final product. Either way, I'm guessing that we'll know more on October 4th.

Mine's still giving me errors. :(

EDIT: Tried again after posting this and it seems to be gathering data at least...

One interesting thing. When I disabled Match so that Apple could wipe my account, it seems to have kept several songs that I downloaded using Match on my iPhone. Isn't it supposed to not do that is it?

Server data was wiped. Local data stays.
