Complete Nonsense.

Sample size is far too small. This looks more like some students business/marketing project.

If you can't check the typing on

blackberr
y
0 %

and Capitalize "Other" then you do seem to be a pretty crappy market analyst.

Not unusual. When the iPhone 5 came out, it accounted for 51% of Verizon activations.

Remember, these are activations NOT sales.

Whenever Apple brings out a new model, activations jump like crazy, for two reasons:

1) People upgrading to the new model.
2) People re-activating the older hand-me-down or resold model.

In the past, used iPhones have accounted for as much as 1/4 of reported AT&T iPhone activations.

So theoretically Blackberry could be in the negative with sales, since the "hand-me-down" applies to all manufacturers?

iPhones are made in China just like Moto G and not in Germany.

Newcomers like Xiaomi are taking away marketshare from both #1 Samsung and #2 Apple.

But how much profit are they taking from Apple? You know, the thing that actually matters to a company's well being. Let me know when Xiaomi can figure out how to carve out even 5% of the industry's profits, then maybe they'll actually matter.

It's not hard to give away phones at cost, effectively buying marketshare. That's a poor strategy in the long term that doesn't work out in the end. Look at how much buying marketshare did for Samsung. Now their smartphone division is in heavy decline but it is Apple with the smaller marketshare and over 80% of all of the industry's profits who are still standing. Xiaomi's just the new buzzword for "Apple's impending doom" now that Samsung is no longer a factor. Too bad they're using the same failing strategy of buying marketshare. Even worse is that they can't get their devices on the market in the West.

Oh, ok, thanks. Slightly off topic: Do you think that Samsung users hand down their phones?

Sure, though not as many as with Apple phones.

A CIRP survey two years ago reported that in the US:

  • Used iPhones: ~1/3 gifted, ~1/5 resold.
  • Used Androids: ~1/10 gifted, ~1/16 resold.
Although certainly those percentages could have changed since then. For example, at the time in 2013, 1/6 of used Blackberrys were gifted. It's likely that the Blackberry figure has gone way down, and the Android figure has gone up, since those phones have become better and more popular.

In the past year I've gifted a couple of Android phones to adults upon request. Was never asked before.

I think that iPhone gifting is likely extra high within families, partly because they cost enough to make it more likely that kids get hand-me-downs, and partly because the kids want iPhones due to popularity in that age group.

(My own tween daughter, although familiar with both OSes, wanted an iPhone because "everyone uses iMessage and Facetime".)

My kids are the same way. Although my daughter who uses an iPad has mastered Hangouts and video chatting with me from her iPad mini to my Note 3 and loves it. She smart both ways. Makes no difference to me either. iMessage is nice but I really have no need for it. The only time I have wifi only is when I'm on an airplane and even there, I simply fire off an email to my wife who is an iPhone user.

And hyundais are made in korea, not china. But porsches perform better with a 6 cylinder 3.8 liters engine than american cars with 8 cylinder 7 liters engines. They are more expensive too. The average redneck still thinks his camaro is better of course anyway, the numbers are bigger you know.

This reminds me something....

I have a CTS-V with $800 in mods and 605hp to the wheels and a C6Z06 with a small snail on it laying down nearly 700hp to the wheels. Both cost far less than a comparable Posche and in the right hands out perform them as a daily driver and track car. I love track days and putting some Germans in their place.

Funny how the world is. This redneck drives a German car and dumped American Good Year brand tires when they switched production from Germany to China causing drivability and road noise to go to poop. Foreign red necks think buying Made in China is American. :p

Very good, looks like we'll have a record number of people complaining about app crashes in the background and lots of low memory reports when the 2 GB of memory iPhone 6s be introduced in September :)

Practicality is the key. A few associates drive their awd Porsches to work in the worst of snow and salt. I never see a corvette out when a rain drop is present much less snow and ice. Different strokes for different folks; these Porsches spank the vette in a different way.

Most Vette owners have a true daily driver thus the reason they aren't out in the rain and especially in snow. The latter isn't because one couldn't outfit them with proper rubber but because of ground clearance. I wouldn't count driving a 4S in snow spanking anything.

My CTS-V with winter rubber handles snow with ease and makes a great daily that has beat up on several Panamera's during our summer outings. Never been a part of a winter event but my wife's Stage III APR S4 would be a lot of fun there.

You kind of just confirmed my point, however relevant this sub-thread adds to the point of the main thread.

meh....if the main point was practicality, one wouldn't drive a Porsche at all considering their initial costs and routine maint. costs. they do perform well in snow with proper tires though. just wouldn't be the first choice of most owners.

Is this news really surprising? The bigger screen was attractive to a lot of people. the design is the best looking in the market.. The hype around it was also a factor. For the average consumer it is perfect phone. And America has love affair with iPhone because it is simple.

I could see something like 5000 samples but 500 is a joke.

Acording to this chart bb didn't activate 1 single cell phone and that is complete bs

I think they included "Blackberry 0%" on that chart just to take a dump on Chen for his ridiculous claim that we should be required to make software for Blackberry. Edit: Only a sample size of 500 users?! This data is useless!

Should look like this....:apple:
