Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Seinfeld always had a Mac in his NY apartment.

But then, more recently, he shilled for Microsoft in their TV ads. Funny thing was, he appeared as "himself" in several episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm around the same time, clearly using a MBP.

Doubt Microsoft would have been thrilled — but I guess stars of a certain cachet get away with what they want.

And he's got cachet, baby — he's got cachet up the yinyang!

YES! TRUE! But even Citizen Gates owns an Apple Macintosh computer.

Apple specifically said that they don't pay for product placement. They've said this numerous times. As that article shows, this doesn't mean Apple doesn't actively try to get Macs on shows--they do. Most products aren't paid for, at least when that article was written:

You're saying the same thing I am. Product placement isn't free. It's not because Apple doesn't write the show a check that they don't end up paying for it. Services costs money, "bartering" costs money, even if indirectly.

Yes. I'm fully aware of that. I'm a programmer, since before there was a Mac, and have programmed on just about every Mac since the 128K. If you can't make your OS9 Mac chew bubble gum and walk at the same time then the problem lies with you, not OS9.

No, it doesn't. It lies with the apps you're using. That's a problem with OS9 not having full pre-emptive multi-tasking. You're dependant on programmers outside of Apple to make it work properly.

Don't try to spin this, you insulted the poster and now you've made it worse by actually admitting you knew exactly what he was talking about.

I'm pretty sure Alton Brown uses macs on his show. He has branded stuff blocked out on his show but when he uses a computer it looks very much like a Mac (I think I've even seen the tell tale block of the apple logo when they notice it's too big to go by the radar).

I have no idea if he actually has a preference for them (I suspect as I think the show does go out of the way not to show branding at all, to the point Alton will give clues when he wants to mention a brand but can't actually say its name).

But that was exactly his point. If you (the application programmer) aren't competent enough to get your app to behave, then you can cause the whole OS to hang or crash, and everyone pays for your mistake. OS9 had no say in the matter. OS's with preemptive multitasking can sandbox and shut down misbehaving apps much better.

If you are in the US and have kids, you may have seen a show called iCarly on nick. Apple products are all over that show but are called iPear, PearPad, PearBook, etc and all have a pear logo on them instead of an Apple logo. This is obviously done tongue in cheek and they are not really trying to hide what they are. It is funny actually.

I think Nick loves to spoof Apple (or think that Apple is the hip computer amongst the kids/teens so it looks more authentic to do an Apple spoof rather than just a generic computer). They also have the iPear (or something equivalent) on Zoey101 (alright alright, I watch a lot of bad sitcoms, I admit).

Of course, Bloom County had the Banana Jr. 6000 (personally, I think Nick was a little more clever as they can even mimic the stem on the pear logo).

And Sluggy Freelance outright just mentions Apple (Satan possesses his Mac. How do they know? Satan installed windows on it - this is before the intel chips ;) ).

Just hit me. Wasn't it an early Mac that Scottie tried to talk to in Star Trek IV, and when told he had to "use the mouse," picked it up like it was a microphone and carefully said "Computer....."??

Look it did some things well, but I remember nights wasted managing extensions, control panels and preferences trying to figure out why the computer was crashing.

When OS X came along I felt nervous because I had spent all that time learning how to trouble shoot OS9 and now I didn't know where everything was. But then I soon realized that I wouldn't be having so many crashes anyway.

I could relate to that comment about making OS 9 walk and chew gum at the same time. I have a feeling it was about managing extensions.

my favorite still has to be in wallE the boot up chime:D it was pretty sneaky and not obvious like a lot of the other ones you see, very cool

The irony

Ironic, isn't it... You can buy a Blu-ray that has a Mac in it, but you can't buy a Mac that has Blu-ray in it. :D

that seems pretty low of Sony to ban Apple products from their movies. i guess i shouldn't be surprised though

It's just smart business. Why help promote a competitor and increase their brand recognition in one of your own business ventures?

That would be like Citibank having a Wells Fargo advertisement inside one of their branches.....
