I was also thinking of trading in my Apple Watch with Brightstar for credit towards a new watch. After reading the Brightstar reviews I am extremely hesitant.

The second link is for a different service (insurance) but the same company.

I know the internet is full of angry people posting their dissatisfaction, however, if a company has so many bad reviews I would rather not take the risk.

Good for you for doing your homework. Not many people do, and you are right, people will flock to the Internet to post their negativity with poor experiences. But the fact is, Brightstar has a very sketchy background with handling these trade-ins with the Apple Watch, which I believe there’s multiple Reddit threads on this. For me, selling locally and taking a price cut, having the cash in hand is perfectly fine with me, but maybe it’s not for others.

A personal trade in at Best Buy still seems like the most problem free solution. Selling on ebay involves seller fees and shipping hassels. Going on Craigslist is a zoo and often not safe.. Just sayin. I'm keeping my SS series 2 as a dress watch and getting the new series 4 in aluminum. Probably a new series 5 next year and trading n the older aluminum...

Thanks. I had happened upon this thread after receiving a shipping box from Brightstar for my watch. On a hunch, based on how their procedure is setup (i.e. Get a quote, ship them the item, wait for quote approval, get gift card), I decided to do a little diligence. Unfortunately, given the nature of the 'trade-in business' there is too much room for dishonesty on both sides of the transaction. Better to sell it yourself.

Depends on the band. $40 for a black plastic band $50 for one with the premium leather bands. I just went through this so I know. I was able to keep the charger and cable so there's that. It's better than relying on a offer from Brightstar.

The quote I just got right now for S0 SS with Black Classic Buckle is only $40

Do NOT use Brightstar. They are a scam. Simple fraud and I'm surprised Apple is associated with them. See the TrustPilot link already provided. Pure 1 star reviews and hundreds of stories of scams/fraud. You have been warned....
