I have a hard time believing you can trademark "Pages" - wouldn't it have to be "Mac Pages" or "Apple Pages"?

It would be a word mark, dealing with a type of good or service.

Do you really think M$ has a trademark on the word 'Word'.

isnt Dec. 6th 2004 a bit late to trademark a name for an item you have in production? i would imagine that there woudl be tons of 'em trademarked a while back.

Many companies wait until the last minute to officially trademark something for the very reason that it becomes public information once its trademarked.

If someone tried to use the idea before its trademarked, the company will have documentation showing they came up with the idea long ago.

Shuffle's a terrible name... makes me think of teens in turned-back baseball caps and baggy jeans with the cuffs underfoot, walking bow-legged while swinging slowly side-to-side, glaring down at their feet with one hand in their waistband...

Oh, wait. It's obvious, now.

Hey Arn...I found the listings...where's my credit!

:D :D :D

I've submitted things before and not gotten credit. More likely someone got it before you...

I agree, the same thing has happened to me. In the end it isn't a huge deal so no need to complain about it... ;)

Anyone remembers Pages by Pages Software for NeXTSTEP?

I remember Pages on NeXTSTEP. It was a very cool product. Could this be the same code base?

I seem to remember recently reading of just such a case.

A large company trademarked (or copyrighted, I'm not sure which) a common name like Apple's pages. Somebody else liked it and so the company sued him. The judge threw their lawsuit out saying that it had no merit whatsoever as the word was too common and in such wide use that they couldn't trademark it.

Once the precedent has been set, I see exactly the same thing happening with these two very common words, unless Apple does something differently. And so far I haven't seen it yet with these two.

Edited for more info; come to think of, I think that it was MS and the word was exactly that, word :p

Since Pages was NS3.3 code-based they'd have to first port it to Openstep compliancy and then update it to the latest in Cocoa. Knowing the talent Apple has that won't be difficult.

One thing is guaranteed. It will be 100% Pure Cocoa.

iShuffle

Those of us old enough to remember the 70's disco dance "The Hustle" are now only able to do "The Shuffle"!

The new iPod Flash will only play songs recorded before 1984, thus completing the separation between the New Apple and the Macintosh.

:D :D :D

Yes I remember Pages

Here's a screenshot:

I was one of the original engineers for Pages. In fact, I personally demoed the product to Steve Jobs to show him what we are doing. It was one of the finest pieces of software I worked on. It would be my fondest wish that someone revived that code or simply copied the idea and produced a better version.

I plan to get the product as soon is it is available to see what direction they have gtaken the product
