Wow, Tim Cook is on a goodwill frenzy.

Good for all involved.

Yes I agree. As long as their main focus is on making the best products with the best profit margins. If that ethos is maintained at Apple then I'm ok with Apple treating their employees at their HQ.

This is not MR news.
You have not been here long have you?
Any news can be reported by MacRumors and put up on the front page. It does not have to be Apple related or even good news to be MR news. Anything: Legal talk, Apple news, non Apple news, garbage from the bottom of the barrel, etc etc can all end up on the MacRumors front website page.

Every move Apple makes draws attention. It does get tedious & boring, except for those who are jealous, or hero worshippers.

At some point they will be on the decline, now *That* will be an interesting read. Don't get me wrong, I wish them no ill will.

It's the gloating that gets old.

Although macrumors does post some random stuff at times, this really does seem unrelated to anything truly relevant. I don't really care, mind you, doesn't really bother me or anything, just an observation. Seems odd. :)

My employer cancelled our Christmas party citing "current economic conditions". Then they posted record turn over, record profits, and record share dividends 3 months later. Needless to say, I am up-skilling myself so I can head on to greener pastures.

Perhaps that is how your company earns record profits. By actually running a tight ship across the board. Do you really care about a Xmas party that much? I think I'd be asking for a raise with this wealth of info. If they're underpaying you or treating you poorly. But you didn't mention either. For all I know you're overpaid, the company makes record dividends (don't you have some of their stock?) and they're not into Christian holidays. :)

Steve did stuff like this all the time. And he would be on whomever leaked this. Apple has a long history of spiffs for employees like this. Some of the best in the past was renting out the entire Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk after the launch of the first Mac, several mid-day theater rentals a few day before the general release of a hot movie.

Steve wanted the whole company to see a private showing of Star Wars Ep. One at the Skywalker Ranch. George Lucas himself limited the attendance to two showings of a few hundred guests each since that is all the Ranch in-house theater could hold.

I'm really curious to see how the Apple Christmas party will be this year since this one is not planned by Steve. They have payed up to $50,000 in stage fees for bands playing along with meet and greets afterwards.

Launch of the first Mac was how long ago? Star Wars Ep.1 came out when?
I would hardly call that "all the time".

I very much doubt Apple paid for the whole tent since seating prices vary so much. Speaking from experience, individual departments (ipod, product design, reliability,...) would do something thing like this, but not the whole company.

There was a party, gifts and a bonus last year (even though profits were lower) and I am not entitled to stock - I get to buy them at normal market rates like everyone else, unlike our managerial colleagues who get them as part of their remuneration packages.

But thanks for trying to make me look like an ungrateful prick.

I think it is awesome! A large company thinking about the worker bees! Usually, I'm not a lush, but I would have got crushed at that event! Seeing two of everything would be cool! :p

MacRumors has learned that Apple has bought out two performances of Cirque du Soleil's traveling show Totem, currently playing in San Jose, California. According to our source, Apple purchased the entire block of 2,500 tickets for each of two shows yesterday and today for employees and their guests, with Apple also picking up the tab for food and drink.

Scanning Twitter and other social networks, we see that a number of people associated with Apple did mention being at Cirque du Soleil yesterday, supporting our source's claim of an Apple-sponsored event.

It is unclear what the reason for the event was, whether it was a simple perk offered to company employees or if there was a specific product milestone or other reason associated with the occasion.

obviously the company doesn't treat all the employees the same way...

some have large benefits, some have tears to cry while working their ass off to enrich the company...

Yeah. Not. Read their subline.

In the last week I've seen four different Cirque shows, let's have a news story about that next

This is my original post here.

So yeah I see where you misquoted me. I dunno how I'd feel if MacRumors did a story about me. It wouldn't be how great I am. I'm not that great. So yeah next time don't misquote other people to suit your own needs. Thanks.

Wonder how many people who got these tickets do 9-5 Monday to Friday.

One thing (Especially since having kids) is that work comes second to home life.

I quoted two of the best. I know many more and have been to a few. The Apple Christmas parties are awesome and I'm amazed how little publicity they get. I'm really surprised the Cirque show got out.

I'm sure of that too. Production companies like this have a cut rate price of you buy out the entire house for a private show. Typically you end up paying half to one third the total retail house cost since the theater requires less staff. When you have shows like this, you need less security, no concessions (typically catering is brought in) and the show cast can break the fourth wall since the crowd is a lot more friendly than a group of strangers that don't know each other.

A lot of bands that tour have private shows the morning of or between their huge venue performances that are not widely published. Typically you get in touch with the tour manager and arrange them when dates are announced. It is usually not their whole show but a few songs, typically minimal equipment with a meet and greet and the usual autograph signings.

Typically tickets like this are performance spiffs. If you have kids, this is a night you either get tickets for the kids -- Cirque is great for children! -- or you hire a sitter. Also, Apple has a lot of young single adults in the company where events like this are great for dates.

For the past 6 years I used to work at Apple in Cupertino. There were never a company wide(Cupertino only) Christmas party. Departments yes, but not the whole campus. The only campus wide party was the Beer Bash.

Today I spoke to my friend that still works at Apple. His department did not get to see Cirque. In fact, he did not hear about anybody going.
To me, this means only a certain group or department went, not the whole campus.

I can start with the separatists "Apple employee" and "Apple core" argument on who gets the spiffs. In reality there are about a hundred people inside Apple, almost all picked by Steve that really calls the shots in that place. My guess is your salary was under $250,000 / year and not many stock options.

Now what, only Steve's "core" people saw Cirque? Did you run out of grandiose stories? You're finally admitting not all of Cupertino campus went.

Do you think you're smart trying to guess my salary is under $250k? According to glassdoor.com, out of the 201 job titles for Apple salaries in Cupertino, all of them are under $250k.
