Glad that has fixed the issue for at least one member. I haven't been home in 2 days to check if it's still working, but I'll post it here once I check.

I changed my Airport Extreme to only update the DHCP once a year. I did that this morning at 7:00am. Its now 8pm and everything is working perfectly throughout the house. I have no idea why that would make a difference, but so far so good. I will check back in tomorrow night and let you know if its still holding onto the connection.

I do not see were to change this at. I opened my AEBS utility and went through the fields?

Fixed(?)

OK so I reset the DHCP and set the lease renewal to 21 days (the maximum my router would allow) and it *seems* to have fixed the problem. Don't want to speak too soon, but certainly looking promising! Will be interesting to see what happens once the lease has expired.
Thanks for the suggestions!

From the Airport utility, select Internet > DHCP. The 3rd line down is called DHCP Lease. Just change the number of days to something other than "1".

Oddly, my solution didn't work for me :(

I have an Airport Express in addition to my Time Capsule, which adds as an extension to my network (to extend range).

My Apple TV seems to connect to the Airport Express, and that, when set in extension mode, does not allow me to change its HDCP lease settings.. I've unplugged it completely for a day to see if the problem disappears.

So you did make the DHCP change to your Time Capsule but the AEx is causing an issue? I would think the IP addresses would still be served up by the TC. Interesting.

Let us know how it goes without the AEx.

According to my techie friend, that is how it should be with the AEx in extension mode.

I've had my AEx unplugged for a day now and so far everything is fine. Although usually the problem appears after 24h, so I've got a few hours to go. The problem is I need the AEx to get proper range/speed throughout the house. If this solves the issue, I'll have to get my friend to come over and set up the static IP method and see if that works when used in conjunction with the AEx.

FAILED.

I just tried it again, and it is no longer working. Even without my AEx, and the TC set to DHCP reset of 100 days.

I'm more sure than not that DHCP (on its own) is a red herring. From what I gather from reading various threads across a few forums on this issue (and mplaying around with countless settings myself) , my money's on it being a combination of iTunes and ATV firmware needing some love from Apple.

I just wish they'd hurry up and fix it

It's 100% a bug in iTunes and/or ATV firmware. But It seems like almost everyone has been able to bandage fix it with extending DHCP lease. I finally got mine configured to static, so we'll see how it goes after a day or so.

Not me.
iTunes failed to connect within five seconds of quitting the program, so I find it had to see how that ties into DHCP (not an expert, just telling you I tried and it doesn't work)
It has nothing to do with ATV since the connectivity fails between iPad Remote app and iTunes.

Still Working

For what its worth, its been several days since I changed my Airport Extreme to renew the DHCP lease after 365 days. The Home Sharing server has worked flawlessly since the change. So, like I said before, I have no idea why that made a difference, but its the only change I've made and it has worked continuously ever since.

I hope at least some of you are able to use that fix until something is done by Apple to permanently resolve this issue.

Glad that worked for you todd. Although it didn't work for me, setting up static IP addresses resolved the problem.

Haroldo, try the static IP solution (if you haven't). Long lease DHCP didn't work for me, but static IP did.

I did...but how will that matter if iTunes was visible on iPad (and ATV2), I quit iTunes and opened iTunes fifteen seconds later and iTunes wasn't visible? Not an expert, but it seems the problem is with the way iTunes writes files on close. Yes, I tried purging iTunes (including the pLists, etc.) and downloaded a fresh copy.
Perplexed (and the Geniuses gave up on me!)

Hmm I really don't know. But it sounds like your problem is a bit different than the rest of us.

We are having the same issue. Lengthening the IP release time didn't help. Going to a static IP didn't help. Sometimes if we go to computers > turn off home sharing, then turn back on it will work. Sometimes iTunes needs restarted. Sometimes the Apple TV needs unplugged.

Our iMac is on 24/7, and we have 2 Apple TV 2's. Both ATVs have this issue.

I lurked this post when it first came out, as I was having problems a lot too. Hardwired both appletv's and havnt looked back. I did try the static IP and the DHCP lease time from my router, didnt seem to make a difference for me. Sure hope they get it fixed for all those who wired isnt an option... :(

Everybody here should go over the the Apple Discussion group and see that this is a major problem for ATV2 users:

There hasn't been a resolution yet, and it seems to be tied to the Apple TV firmware update.

This solution works for me...

I was having the same problems as everyone else. I changed my settings on my iMac in Energy Saver in System Preferences to Computer Sleep=Never and this has been working for the last week without a glitch.

Hope it works for others!

Neither turning off computer sleep nor the DHCP setting changed to 365 days worked for me. :(

You'd think with so many people reporting this problem, Apple would do something about it. It's been too long to say they're working on it; I'd bet they never even addressed the complaints. Heck, you're lucky if anyone from Apple ever replies to anything in that forum

I'm frustrated because the iTunes connectivity is the only reason I purchased the ATV2

I'm really frustrated by this. I am a new Apple user...recently picked up an iPad 2 and this past weekend picked up an ATV 2.

It works great for everything but home sharing which is the main reason I bought it. I am working on setting up iTunes with all my media.

I have tried everything I can think in terms of router settings and I tried hard wired to no avail.

Apple has got to fix this!
