YouTube is running fine...so far...on my AppleTV. In that it plays content. It's an abysmal UI on it though. The YouTube app even on an Android TV device like the Nvidia Shield was terrible. I haven't used the Shield in almost 2 years, so I don't know if they ever got around to fixing it.

Tired of Apple TV - have two of them. Gen4 is in cupboard and using Roku instead. About to replace the other in upstairs TV room.

I've tried them all, even have a Roku TV, but overall, the AppleTV interface remains the most "polished". I am among the millions that don't like the ATV4 remote, but still prefer the Apple Interface.

Ahhh, I have a friend who's having this issue for my 3rd gen Apple TV I'm letting her borrow. I was supposed to go over tomorrow to try to see what the issue is, but at least I know nothing is wrong with the Apple TV itself now.

Sucks to see it losing support or if they never fix this. I know it's old, but it still works really well, has still gotten apps randomly added to it over the years, and even it got a software update a couple weeks ago on March 24th.
Doesn’t sound like appletv is losing support at all, sounds like google messed up

It's particularly bad on the TiVo platform. They did something to the app sometime in the last 6–12 months and it's basically unusable now, even on the latest generation box. Somehow it manages to cause problems outside the app after it's been used.
ts google, probably mining whatever data it can find

The way how to throw my perfectly functioning Apple TV 3 to the trash and buy a new one. Thanks Apple and Google.

I’m also having issues as an Apple TV 4 user, but only because the app is so badly designed for Apple TV 😂

Remember the good ole days when Apple designed the YouTube app??? I miss those days.

Or stop watching YouTube? Seems extreme to toss the box for a single app.

I have been seeing the same error on my new 16 inch MBP. I suspect Google is having some issues. Everyone is stuck at home watching cat videos. The internet is running out of bandwidth.

Where exactly do you infer the problem is with the ATV3? All evidence points to google, could even be as simple as their servers are overwhelmed. Note that some responders even indicate problems on other platforms
Some people reset the ATV3, but I’m sure you already tried that

Still perfectly happy with my two Apple TV3's. Most of the time, I just use them to access my large library of ripped DVD's and a few downloaded iTunes movies on my iTunes server - a Mac Mini. Everything is hard-wired on ethernet and the media is on a 4tb SSD, so it's pretty fast. Would be nice if the AppleTV 3 had gigabit ethernet, but not a big deal.

I don't have cable, so about the only other things I use on the AppleTV are the PBS app and some YouTube. Yeah, the UI isn't great, but "whatever". Right now, I can't see spending money to fix something that "ain't broke" in the middle of this crisis where there's so much uncertainty. :)

It is quite shocking that the server can't handle due to increasing demand from the pandemic lockdown.

HBO announced they'll no longer support the AppleTV 2 and 3 for HBO Go. Amazon stopped supporting the Wii U a while ago. Netflix no longer works on the original Wii. I'm surprised my old Tivos from way back are working at all. It's reasonable for streaming services to expect reasonably-current hardware.

The modern AppleTV is nice, it can play games. If you're impacted by this, get one of those!

Google appears to have handicapped its YouTube support for the third-generation Apple TV, based on hundreds of user complaints on Apple's support forums and in YouTube's Help Center.

Multiple users are reporting problems accessing certain YouTube content such as music videos. When attempting to watch the content, viewers are being met with the message "An error occurred loading this content. Try again later."

One Reddit user who contacted Apple customer support reports that Apple claims the issue is on Google's end, following recent changes it made to the YouTube platform. However, Google has yet to address or acknowledge the problem, despite numerous reports being filed and submitted over the course of more than two weeks.

Have you had trouble viewing YouTube content on a third-gen Apple TV? Let us know in the comments below.

YEP! .....SAD......BILLION $ COMPANY left in the hands of incompetent fools, still riding on Steve's tail......

I’m guessing the lack of netneutrality in the USA could also be a factor. The older cannot use the efficient codec google prefers to minimize traffic. Which is more a problem for them in the USA, then e.g. Europe with its massive peering infrastructure.

Has got nothing to do with “net neutrality”.

Yep lots of intermittent issues accessing youtube content on our 3rd gen appleTV. Hard to guess what will work and what won't. Stopped using Youtube on the AppleTV. Looking at getting newer model.

My dad has been complaining about this on his ATV2 for a long time. I even went so far as to do a restore of the device for him, which I figured wouldn't fix the problem.

I bought him a newer Apple TV a couple of years ago but he hates the current UI and prefers the old UI. Plus the Apple Bluetooth keyboard won't work inside the YouTube app on the newer version.

He's in his 70's and doesn't adapt to technology changes well anymore. He loves the ATV2.

Hmmm…! Sign of the future for Smart TVs too. People will then complain of planned obsolescence from TV manufacturers when the real culprit is Goog… I mean, the app developers!

I have same issue and have to stream from phone. Don’t want to replace my TV3 though since I like the interface. Also, it still works fine.

I wonder if some of this is an ISP issue? Just watched about a half-hour of a documentary on my AppleTV 3 and Youtube. Absolutely no problem. And it was in HD, contrary to other reports that youtube was dropping everything to SD.

Scrolled through all the menus to see what else was on, but didn't try anything else. Will check a few more later this evening just to see what happens. I have Verizon FIOS 150/150 and live alone, so nobody else is using any of that bandwidth.
