If Apple opened up the Apple TV to third party apps, like the iPhone & iPad, then I would gladly buy it. However, as it stands Apple does not have a good track record in making features in its products truly global, so no doubt some of these new apps only work in the US.

You do realize that the Apple TV is only $99? That's a bargain in my opinion.

I would buy two more for our home, but I'm awaiting the next iteration of ATV.

now compare it to chromecast or roku

How is $99 bad?

And would everyone stop complaining about icons? You look at this for, what, two seconds before you open the app....

so you're telling me that no matter how ugly the icons look, you dont care?

----------

If $99 burns your wallet when they charge over $1000 for computers you can get $400 elsewhere, then WOW you have your priorities messed up

Its not about the content deal that has me pissed off the most

Its the SmartWatch **** up.

And yes, I should have saved it for the thread which shall come later

who said i use a Mac? i love apple because of the iphone and the ipad

Why would Apple let another service provide movie rentals? They want you to buy / rent content from the iTunes store. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see how Amazon Prime helps Apple.

I never said it would help Apple. BUT Apple already allows Netflix, which is quite similar to Amazon instant video. And apple allows HBO go...

Picked up an Apple TV a few weeks ago and have been nothing but happy with it. I need to pick up another one or two for the other rooms with TVs in them. You can't beat the price for what you get. I think this is only the beginning of what's to come. I can't wait to see if they integrate the new radio into it. I just wish they had a hard drive still for basic storage of those go-to movies, music, etc.

I hope Apple doesn't built a television. I'd rather they turn the AppleTV box into a Wireless LED Projector. Small and portable enough to take anywhere but with a brilliant picture. Would make an ideal replacement for a second or third TV in the home.

If it doesn't help Apple why would they do it? It would hurt their sales...

Netflix has older titles, and mostly older TV shows. HBO Go requires a cable subscription and generally plays movies well past the time Disc sales and digital rentals have been made available. Amazon prime is a direct competitor for the item the iTunes store makes money from.

Kind of like Walmart letting Kmart sell a TV's next to the Walmart TV's.

the Chomecast has no where near the functionality.

Why are networks like Disney wasting our time with this? HBO Go is great because it actually gives users access to, practically, their entire catalog. Disney's app is just as awful as their OnDemand offerings. No complete seasons of anything, no rhyme or reason to the 2 or 3 episodes from each show that they do feature, no movies - no older Disney Channel stuff like Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, etc. Don't even bother clicking Other "Seasons" as they'll only have a sampling of 4 or 5 episodes. This is just awful and pointless.

Wizards of Waverly Place and Hannah Montana are considered all Disney stuff?

Give me their old shows like Even Stevens and The Famous Jett Jackson. Give me access to their original films like Brink. Give me real nostalgia, no stuff that's just 5 years old.

At least Netflix has Phineas and Ferb... for the kids, obviously.
