Again, just go to parental controls under settings and select hide for each of the channels you don't want.

Ill admit thats not an obvious place, but the UI predates having tons of channels.

thanks for this. and agreed, not the best UI, but i'll take the option of being able to hide.

The increased activity on the ATV front falls into line with their tease about the surprises this fall .

No Disney in the UK which is a bit rubbish!

The only reason i pay for Sky is because of the Disney channel for my 2 year old boy!

Any idea when this will come to UK ATV?

That'll depend on Apple signing *another* deal and handing over *more money* to Disney. Production companies sell their rights country by country, in order to make the money to produce the shows in the first place, along with make the profits that their shareholders demand of them. I think we may find in a few years that the Apple TV (either in it's current box format or as some imaginary TV set), may give a more choice and options to US based customers, but still remain as little more than an iTunes/iTunes portal for the rest of the world.

And STILL no Time Warner

Tim Cook needs to be fired

Not just for letting Roku beat them to it, but because of the big **** up that he allowed to happen today. Moron let Samsung beat them to the market with a SmartWatch.

He's got to go for his incompetence. He is killing Apple!

There seriously should not be this much rage over a TV content deal.

I'm also appreciative that apple is working on the Apple TV software offerings, but the weather channel app is arguably useless. Maybe just marketing? I can tell you I'm never going to stop my binge watching on netflix to fire up the weather app on the Apple TV. My phone or laptop are always next to me to do this.

I think its glacially moving in that direction. It will take one premium channel to make a leap of faith--HBO is in a good position I think but it might be another channel.

The way its set up right now, its almost as if Apple is encouraging people to use the sign in credentials from their friends and family who have cable subscriptions. . . I'm wondering when the crack down will begin.

I did that for watch ESPN because it doesn't work with DirecTV. Never mind that I pay DirecTV $150/mo.

great, now if they would consider lowering the price of the apple Tv.

If $99 burns your wallet when they charge over $1000 for computers you can get $400 elsewhere, then WOW you have your priorities messed up

Its not about the content deal that has me pissed off the most

Its the SmartWatch **** up.

And yes, I should have saved it for the thread which shall come later

still not going to "pay" for what I can get for free elsewhere

stupid business model, and those are already way too many apps

all of a sudden you need a TV guide again ... no thanks:mad:

I'm less interested in an AppleTV "app store" and more interested in seeing if adding these "authentication required" channels is just a step toward making the same channels(and more to come, I hope) available as direct subscriptions without an associated cable account in the future.

Apple would certainly like nothing better than adding this option but they need an ok from the content providers for this which as i understand so far they can't get.
I'm hoping one of the surprises this fall is an Apple TV SDK along with a new UI.
they are likely saving this for the new iTV or whatever it's going to be called when it's finally out. but it's got to be coming.

We got Vevo over here in the UK but that appears to be it.

same here in Canada.

Having just purchased Madden 25 to get the cheap NFL Sunday Ticket code for streaming, I was hoping they would add an NFL channel for the start of the upcoming season. Then I could log in with my account and browse games without having to fiddle around with AirPlay which will sometimes lag, stutter, or just lose connection from the device—which also needs to be plugged in and can't really be used easily during a 3-3.5 hour game or all-day Sunday football marathon! I'd also like to see some other channels like SyFy, Discovery Channel, Science Channel, as well as apps from the major television networks.

Dude, Samsung isn't the first to announce a smartwatch. Plus Apple has never cared about being first. I'd rather Apple take their time and come up with something people will want rather than rushing to beat a competitor to the punch.

Well at least Australia got 1 of the new channels. I'll give you a hint, it's not Disney or the Smithsonian or the Weather Channel. That brings us to 20 icons on the home screen now. 3 of which are US based sports.

Not bitching about Apple or :apple:TV here, more so the content industry who for some reason either don't want my money, or scalp me when they do offer their stuff to our dinky little island.

Sorry, that's my rant for the day.

I really like how we've seen new Apple TV Apps in the past couples months but it would be so much better if there was an App Store were you could download the apps you want and developers could be constantly updating them.

I think that this is eventually where we are heading, but Apple is taking its time, probably because the whole TV business model is a mess right now and companies should be taking their time to figure out the right way to do these things.

Steve Jobs said something very important when he announced the Apple TV (I think it was the second generation in 2010). He said that people don't want a computer in their living room.

I think there is a ton of truth to this, even though we might not think so.

A computer in the living room sounds interesting and functional, but I think the most important thing is that we get content. Easy, simple, and high quality.

So as soon as Apple (or any other company) figures out the best way to get this job done, it'll be great. And I think Apple is certainly on the right path, but it'll take some time.
