And i still don’t think people will not renew after the free trial is over.....

When new shows drop that I am interested in, I will pay to subscribe. Apple TV+ has had great quality, just not so much quantity. As others have previously mentioned, they don’t have the backlog that would entice viewers like D+ or Netflix.

But give me a second season of pretty much any of the shows they have previously released, and I will watch. Plus Masters of Air will defiantly get me to subscribe.

The Morning show was pretty good.

I hated Defending Jacob though. I stopped watching for a few weeks. Came back to it. Stopped again. Took me months to finish it. I think I kept going back because it SEEMED like it should be really good but it wasn’t. For me. I think that’s because the kid was so annoying and unlikeable. I could not possibly have cared less if he was guilty or not. If you don’t care about that central question the whole show becomes pointless and annoying. And the ending was such a cop out. Just so then can have another painful season (which I for sure won’t be watching this time… fool me once…)

Mythic Quest was a riot. Ted Lasso is also very enjoyable.

I haven't seen any of the TV+ series excepts for "Amazing Stories" and that show was hard to watch because it felt like the evening news; nothing but social just warrior politics, and almost non-existent story. Since the news is everywhere now, are there an TV+ shows that are not social justice warrior, and have though into making. a good escapism story?

I really like Dickinson. I'm from Amherst and lived down the street from her house, and the show is definitely my kind of style -- anachronistic, humorous, doesn't take itself too seriously, but is still genuinely poignant. Love the writing. Hailee Steinfeld is great, and I love the cast. Music is great.

I have had the service since I got my iphone 11 a few months after it came out. I have never opened any of the shows they all seem boring in their previews.

Apple would have more people watching if they didn’t have driver issues with the intel chips that make the Apple TV full screen viewing flicker black non stop
What are you talking about? I haven’t seen this issue on my 2017 13” MBP or my wife’s brand new 10th Gen 2020 13” MBP.

Check out For All Mankind, Mythic Quest, Home Before Dark, Trying, and Ted Lasso. All of those are great escapes. See too. And Servant. It’s the exception rather than the rule with the SJW stuff. Amazing Stories is one of the worst offenders of that, and not a great a show to boot.

Awesome. Thanks for the kind response. I'm gonna go escape into some of those shows this week.

He didn’t mention Defending Jacob. You should check that out too. In fact, you might want to start with that.

I hope these nominations puts a mud hole into the haters saying it’s a waste of Apples finances and effort.

You know what would be even better is if Apple was more forthcoming about the AppleTV+ numbers. That would put a mud hole into the haters more than Hollywood patting each other’s backs

How about you give credit where its due being Netflix got 41 nominations with less self produced content first year and Apple got only 18 nominations with actually more self produced content their first year.

Why should I? I didn't contest their efforts in the very first place. The admittance here is not on me for myself to make - that wasn't the whole debate with me to begin with. lol.

i do agree that “The Happening” is maybe even worst than Unbreakable. But’s terrible almost from the beginning, so you don’t feel so disappointed when it ends as bad as it started. But Unbreakable...I remember to be mad about all the people that give that script the green light. Is not only Shyamalan fault, but everyone that read it and didn’t say “this is cr..p, just trash it”. For the lucky people of MR that didn’t watch it, I will save you 2 hours of your life: a guy with a bone disease -prone to fractures- decides to kill thousands of people in multiple terrorist attacks just to find one person that will be his opposite: a superhero-like person and...you got it “unbreakable”. He gets REALLY lucky, because in a world of 7 billion people, he only need to kill a fraction of that to discover that the person that he’s looking for lives in the SAME CITY. An equally statistically absurd side story: Bruce Willis has the “superpower”? of see people past actions by touching them...of course he only need to touch 3 o 4 to find a vicious killer. At the end of the movie he start to wear a hoodie...because all superheroes need a costume.

Best. Summary. Ever.

Defending Jacob was great except the changed vacation stuff and ending from the book. Pointless and way worse.

The endemic negativity that pervades tech forums. Anything Apple sucks just because. Eighteen Emmy nominations for a first year is quite impressive, no matter what some tech forum "Debbie downers” say.

"Outstanding Narrator" and "Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance" and "Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music" are laughable to be offered as awards. I don't blame Apple, of course, because it's not their award ceremony but what a joke those 3 awards/nominations are! I'm surprised the Emmy team doesn't have an "Outstanding Performance By The Boom Mic Operator" or "Outstanding Performance For The Credit Roll" awards. :)

Congrats to Apple on the nominations. I really enjoyed The Morning Show, Servants, See, and Mythic Quest on ATV+.
I hope TMS wins the awards it has been nominated for but I will not be watching the awards show as I can't stand listening to the political speeches of celebrities.

Netflix being CAD 15.34 after tax for me over here, Apple TV+ is definitely operating with less cash flow sources from subscription muscle. Besides there’s also the data hosting, streaming and a bunch of infrastructure that probably we don’t even think off to be factored in.
To be fair, Netflix has to pay a whole bunch of that money to license the content that it provides from other studios.

I think Netflix has a budget of somewhere around $15 billion for its 300-ish original productions. As of the last report Apple had earmarked around half of that for about a dozen shows, although those numbers have almost certainly gone up by now. Apple is most definitely spending a lot more per show overall than Netflix is.

By most estimates, Netflix does spend about 80 percent of its budget on original content now, but on the other hand, everything Apple is streaming is 100% original content. While I seriously doubt that they're supporting their $6-billion-plus budget from subscription revenue at this point, there's clearly more of an investment for the future here, and unlike ongoing licensing costs to get content from other studios, once you've paid for the production of a show that you own, you're basically done.

It's kind of the same reason that Netflix has shifted to this model, and when you think about it, this is Disney's model as well — the only difference is that Disney owns a massive amount of original content right out of the gate, whereas Netflix has had to build up its own staple of original shows over the past seven years.

At some point, every company has to commit some of its existing resources to make sure it's going to get a longer-term payoff. Even the original iPhone cost Apple billions of dollars in research and development before it was ready to get a product out the door. Did that mean that Macs cost more than they otherwise would have? Perhaps, but really the alternative would be for a company to stagnate and never try anything new. There's no chance that Apple will heavily subsidize Apple TV+ from hardware sales in the longer term, as that's not a sustainable business model and the company's investors ultimately wouldn't stand for it. However, it's necessary to get the new service off the ground, and Apple has a history of playing the long game.

NOONE is critical about apple getting nominations. They put in the work and got 18 nominations and I am sure they are well deserved. What everyone IS critical about is people saying Apple TV+ must be the best thing ever because they got 18 nominations first year and acting like this has never happened before.
As for Apple coming into this with no experience...
Netflix didnt have ANY experience when they went in as well, they put in the work and got 41 nominations and they are also well deserved.
Apple did come into this with having seen multiple others that had no experience at all and had the benefit of lessons learned unlike Netflix

That I can understand.

Yet I personally never stated that Netflix's accomplishments where not well deserved, I stated it took them a lot longer to make their move than what everyone is stating - and I've proven it with facts (their initial business from VHS:DVD:Streaming:creating their own shows).

Yet I was quoted as IF I had sad "Apple TV+ must be the best thing ever because they got 18 nominations first year and acting like this has never happened before." - by you and another person; yet I never came across as stating or implying that.

And there is way more content being created / judged for Emmy's now than when Netflix first started producing, plus it is overall better content. There is far more competition now. This is a win for consumers and, like it or not, Apple is making some good shows which many people are enjoying. Comparing Emmy nominations from different periods of time is pointless.

A massive win for Apple. I believe this is the first time a rookie streaming service ever won an Emmy for a debut show. Anniston was robbed for sure. I expect a win for season 2.
