Compared to all other services available on the market, Apple TV + practically has nothing. Also, only maybe a couple of shows that they’ve released are decent. I could only watch 3 (Morning Show, Defending Jacob, and the first season of Servant, the rest was pretty much mediocre at best). It remains to be seen if Apple even keeps it. We’ve had other examples before when they abandoned their services altogether.
So I’ve watched at least 8 shows of ‘practically nothing’? Interesting use of my time. Also, the fact that it has less than other services, doesn’t make it pointless.

Can Apple TV+ please add Chromecast please? I really haven't gotten into Apple TV despite having the free year because I can't cast it and am not really into watching content on my phone screen.

I imagine Apple will port its app to AndroidTV and Chromecast. It's only a matter of time. By the time you get it on Chromecast you'll have even more good content to enjoy.

I’d rather have AirPlay on the PS4/PS5 to be able to use the main TV as a mirror for my iOS/iPadOS devices, without having to purchase a new one or an Apple TV.

So why do you even need an Apple TV anymore?

Are they foreshadowing the end of the product?
Apple Arcade and Fitness+ still are Apple TV only. You get the Apple "experience" by using an actual Apple TV. If I read the tea leaves correctly, Apple is expected to launch new Apple TVs by March 2021, so Apple TV is clearly not going anywhere. They just want to allow all audiences to watch TV+. I can't imagine the cast and producers of the many excellent TV+ shows want their content locked within the Apple ecosystem exclusively.

Also, TV+ has been available for Fire, Roku, and many smart TVs for at least 5 months now.

They really need to change the names of the app or the actual box. They are too similar. Most seems confused about what the service TV+ contains & get upset when they think they have to pay extra.

Like anyone really thinks to themselves "I got some free time on my hands, it's gaming time!" then reaches for the Apple TV remote.

The new Apple TV box is expected to be a Microsoft Game Pass'esque experience in Apple Arcade and they reportedly have multiple AAA mainstream games coming to Arcade for $5/month. This will be enabled due to the expected high end ARM chip and a new Apple TV Arcade gaming controller accessory.

Also, you an already use either an Xbox controller or PS Dualshock controller with current Apple TVs. If I was playing Apple Arcade now, that's what I would use.

This is such a great thing (both xBox and PS); my main Apple TV is in the bedroom (where I watch most TV), with my now ancient 2nd gen Apple TV nearly unusable in the living room... now I can retire that and just use my xBox.

Apple has the deep pockets to make TV+ a success and ensure a steady stream of high quality content, sparing NO expense. Especially at this early juncture where Apple needs to prove itself, the quality output will continue to be incredible. And I expect at least 5 seasons of the flagship series (Dickinson, Servant, For All Mankind, Morning Show, See, Ted Lasso, Mythic Quest).

Just because you throw piles of money at something doesn’t mean it becomes a good idea. Not that I hate these shows or anything (I haven’t watched them and I’m not the target audience), but just because Apple is willing to put a bunch of money into TV+ doesn’t make it a more valiant or moral enterprise from the rest of the entertainment industry.

That’s all I can evaluate it on. I have no interest in anything on Apple TV+ because I don’t watch television. From my perspective, there’s been no “killer app” that is making people sign up in droves. Maybe you will be right, but the money doesn’t purchase artistry.

You can stream anything that comes directly from Apple in the app: Apple TV+, other Apple Channels subscriptions, movies and TV shows purchased on iTunes.

However, the app can only sync and integrate with 3rd party apps on tvOS and iOS.

Thanks. Also, I have quite a few movies I bought on iTunes. I know that it's only streamable in 4K on the Apple TV hardware. I can't stream my movies on iTunes on my MacBook as it is hardware only. Will the PS5/XSX stream my movies in 4K/HDR?

Exactly! Competition sucks! Netflix monopoly all the way! The cable monopolies were great for consumers! /s

So moving from one service with all the steaming content for £10/month to over a dozen is better for consumers? Every company needs a slice of the pie? They can't work together and make a unified experience where all the content is in one place and comes out of one bill?

This is awesome. Sometimes after I'm gaming, I always thought it would be nice to get to Apple TV vs switching devices when I was binge watching their content.

As far as I know, Sony hasn’t confirmed yet if the PS5 will support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, so if that’s important to you, it remains to be seen if the PS5 will be a viable replacement for the Apple TV box
